  1. I would love this trade if we could resign one of them and get two firsts for the other after the season. This would be a great trade for us then.
  2. We could also throw in a PTBNL and give them Sizemore at this time next year!
  3. Is the first question inn reference to Cameron and the second question in reference to Gwynn? I have not watched enough of Pierre this year to know what I think on this one, so I'll defer to the rest of you.
  4. I agree Pudster. I think that our GM's overvaluing of Hardy and Hart is going to keep us from reaching our potential. You have to strike when the iron is hot. We haven't really sold high on anyone since Overbay (who was sold more at a consistent level than at a high level). For a city like Milwaukee to reach the promise land, we need to be a bit shrewder that we've been. It's a tough job though, and Doug certainly is not doing a bad job. He just has missed opportunities that he should've known enough to take advantage of.
  5. I'll grant you that the stats might not align and might make Cruz seem better at the same age. But you have to grant me that many felt Cruz was an excellent AAA player that would be nothing in the majors. I am not a big stat guy as I've said in other threads. Not that I don't think they are extremely worthwhile; I just simply am the type of fan that looks at BA, HR, RBI type stats (the ones on the tv screen) and have never been real good with numbers ever since first grade math. Like I said, many thought Cruz would be a nobody in the majors after mashing tons of homers in AAA with a respectable BA. I just hope people are right this time if Katin's almost given away or given no real shot at a roster spot.
  6. I see that not many want to really give the guy a shot. I also see that he's worth hardly anything to most in a trade. Watching the runner-up in the home run derby last night, I just hope we do our due dilegence before we use him as a throw-in.
  7. Someone, maybe from ESPN, thought the Phillies would offer three A's a B and a C prospect. That to me would look like... Escobar Lawrie Salome (I'll reach here and let us keep Gamel) Anundsen Dillard We had better be darn sure that we make the playoffs at the minimum to give up all of that to send a pitcher to a team that might be just a little better than an average MLB team this year.
  8. I think we have high hopes for the SS we just drafted with the last name of Prince. The guy looks like a steal and might be ready by 2012 if he meets or surpasses expecations from now until then.
  9. For those willing to give up so many two of our top three prospects and then two other top ten prospects.....What is your goal for THIS season? Because I am not sure he alone will get it done. I think I'd try and avoid reaching the high demands for Roy this season. But I might be wrong.
  10. Hopefully it's Salome's show next year with a good defensive backup in case he falters. But the kid is really starting to hit the ball in AAA and deserves a chance.
  11. Despite his struggles at this level given inconsistent playing time, Gamel looks a little bit like Braun minus 7-9 homers. But an over .300 hitter that mashes doubles and still has power to hit 25-30 balls out each year. That would look fine as a corner OF'er, but I think he CAN stick at third also. Escobar is so young that you can't project him yet. He has hit over .300 at a very young age at the best minor league levels and is a big time base stealing threat with an incredible glove. Again, I don't think you can project him to this point unless you project his much higher potential (which would put him well ahead of Cabrera). I would maybe deal one in a Halladay trade but not both. In truth, I'd get a lesser pitcher at the deadline to keep these guys and re-evaluate in the off-season.
  12. I'd probably give him an aggressive contract offer and when he turns it down, it might be worth exploring like Toronto is with Halladay. That is, trade him if you really love an offer, but otherwise just bring him back.
  13. Not sure if this is OT for this thread, but would you guys advocate risking signing Rich Harden in the off-season?
  14. Morrow was thought to be dangled a bit, though it might have been more fishing. I am just guessing we could have thrown JZ a couple of his favorites to get it done. I don't necessarilly agree on Peavy only wanting the Cubs. I think the Brewers are pretty darn similar with many familiar faces for him, but you might be right. Millwood would have been a risk, but his arm still and makeup would have made it worth the risk and we likely could have gotten rid of a bad salary to make the numbers closer. Vazquez was another one worth the risk. It's easy to come up with reasons NOT to go after these guys. But the guys we had were not going to get it done. These four were off the top of my head though. I am sure we missed the boat on others, and again, may pay for it by not being able to get even a #3 caliber starter until the off-season.
  15. JJfanec - you sure are defending Melvin. The bottom line is there was nobody in our potential rotation that should have been expected to be even a good #3. When that is the case, and you are coming off a playoff season, I think you make that risky trade and go for a #2/#3 type. It's possible we could have made a "bolder" move and still been where we are. However, we didn't and we are paying for it because we didn't, and there might be no way to remedy the situation until the off-season, which in my mind will put us out of the playoffs for sure given our rotation.
  16. How about trading for Vazquez in the off-season? Or trading for Milwood, who was readily available in the off-season? Or Jack Z likely would have traded us Morrow if we had offered him a fair deal (not a rip off his way, just an even deal)? Or trading for Peavy in the off-season?
  17. If a team like Toronto really did insist on ready-made pitching prospects, which we don't have, and the tradeoff has to be Gamel and Escobar, we simply don't have a match. That's fine. Move onto a Vazquez or a Davis then. Eventually, there will be a match. Things don't always align perfectly. The Brewers aren't going to get the best player at every trade deadline.
  18. I agree FVBF. If Melvin wants to compain (maybe rightfully) that there are no arms available, we sure as heck better be maximizing our 25man roster. That means Hall needs to get off of it, as well as Gerut. Bring up Heether and JB and I am willing to wager we become a better team for this season.
  19. I had wanted him in the off-season when Chicago was dangling him. But alas, there were two others I wanted that did not fair so well (Garland and Sheets). Also, is he under control for three more years or just one more year? I am confused by Nate's wording in his last post.
  20. Is Chris Cody on the 40 man roster? If not, he'll be my guess.
  21. You'd have to think that Lawrie and Taylor Green being Canadiens would make them too guys Toronto would insist on. Throw in Corey Hart or their pick of a minor league pitcher and they may be pretty tempted.
  22. Good posts guys. I don;t mean to get in an arguement here. I truthfully am not a huge stats guy. Just the basics thrown on the tv screen for me. I just basically watch every game and come up with an idea of how much value I see in the guy. JJ is a good player. Maybe top five on our team. I just happen to feel he's overrated and don't agree with an assessment saying he's our most valuable. I easily can be wrong and obviously there are stats to back that up. Hopefully at some point, this Escobar/Hardy thing will get solved one way or another.
  23. I get the jist of what your saying. Obviously, I happen to feel that a worse fielding CF that hits better than Cam would not yield us more losses. Pretty much the same for JJ. I should probably quit posting in this thread, but I happen to feel JJ is overrated and should have been dealt for a #2 starter. I think Escobar will be able to replace him easily. Maybe he'll be our MVP on that link next year, along with whomever we have play CF. Corey Hart would have been atop that links list had he played CF all of last year, correct?
