  1. I too like Harang and think he's a good buy low guy. But I gotta think they'd want Gamel or Escobar. Like my thoughts on dealing with Seattle, if we can focus on a deal around JJ, I'd be interested in talking further about Harang.
  2. FWIW, some guy on the JS blog is claiming to be an insider and says there will be no trade. He says Dillard gets two starts and that they hope to have Bush back after that and that the market for SP is too ridiculous for DOug to make a move. I hope he is right.
  3. I agree, this looks like the move to me. I would not trade any of the following players for him though...Escobar/Gamel/Lawrie/Salome/Green/Lucroy/Cain. I am less sure on what pitching prospects to avoid trading for certain, but I know Braddock is one of them.
  4. This has to be us as one of the possible options for a trade with a "fringe playoff team". http://www.mercurynews.com/giants/ci_12919156
  5. This would be the second time in two years that DM trades a player he calls "untouchable" (LaPorta last year). I think he loses all legitimacy/respect from other GM's if he does that and also that other teams will know you can fleece the Brewers at the deadline every year for the next few years because MA is going to insist on making a move as big as he can and DM is going to give in in the end.
  6. Yeah, can we just lock this thread? The proposal is ludicrous and I think we have a better Doug Davis thread somewhere anyway.
  7. From Rosenthal ..... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9858776/MLB-trade-deadline-buzz:-Monday's-edition Uhhhhh, why is it that I can see Melvin panic and give away Escobar for these two. Please give them JJ plus instead Doug, unless JZ thinks he's overrated and doesn't want to pay him either.
  8. My bad on Clement. Thought he was younger and could play catcher more legitimately. Might still be a good "buy low" guy to have in the deal if our scouts like him and see something. I guess I'd take Green out of my proposed deal, or just not go after Clement in the deal.
  9. I am wondering what it'd take to get Jeff Clement in the deal along with Washburn and Morrow. You gotta think JZ has an attachment to either Salome or Lucroy and would love for one of "his guys" to be the catcher of the future. What about Hardy/Salome/Green/Fredrickson for Washburn/Morrow/Clement?
  10. I would be very happy if Hardy's value as well as a prospect in the 10-15 range can get us both Washburn and Morrow. I thought it may have dropped a bit more than that, but would love to be wrong.
  11. Suppan has to move to middle relief at some point soon. Not sure Macha/Melvin have the guts to do it this year even if we landed both Washburn and Morrow, but I highly doubt, despite his large salary, that he starts for us next year.
  12. Is this a thread basically to talk about loving Gillespie and not seeing a lot of value in Gamel?
  13. Well, I believe Lopez can play SS as well. So if we trade Hardy, there's a chance they want a good vet along with Escobar up on the club. I guess I am just saying there's a chance he could be resigned and used as the supersub that Bill Hall was four years ago or so, where he'd get 4-500 ab's. Plus, injuries do happen. I agree that we'll offer him arby but some team will likely give him a starting gig and I don't see where we would really.
  14. About time. He probably should have been on the team from day one. Not saying he is putting up awesome numbers or anything but he probably should have been penciled into the bullpen based on doing well last year and being cheap and young.
  15. Gamel imho will be a perennial allstar third baseman. Escobar very well could in the NL as well. Lawrie is too young to project, but at 2B, I like his chances. Those three will be an incredible infield in the near future and all are very necessary when Prince leaves. And why do people even assume Halladay could go here? Other teams might be offering the world as well. And what if Toronto is hell-bent on getting the best young pitching they can for Halladay above all else? Then we literally would have no chance.
  16. It's not about the finances as much as it is a very poor baseball decision to trade a clump of our best young talent for one temporary arm.
  17. I take it if you had 20K to your name, 18.5K would go to a cool car then, huh?
  18. Yeah, the fact that (I think) we offered LaPorta rather than Gamel for CC makes me think/hope Gamel will produce better than LaPorta
  19. I highly disagree. Does that mean the 10-15 other teams with a slight or better shot at making the playoffs that didn't do WHATEVER it takes should fire their GM too?
  20. Meh. I think if we dump Gerut that we should give somebody from Nashville a shot to see if we might have something. Katin, JB, or Iribarren. Give one of them 100 ab's or so and maybe we unearth a starter for next year.
  21. Thank you for not being dumb, Mr. Melvin.
  22. X - nobody is arguing with you or defending you on this one. And to think Hardy is worth 8 million this season without really being able to hit a ball is almost as laughable as saying he was worth over thirty million the past two seasons. I don't care what website or obscure stat says otherwise. But other than this issue, I do like your posts.
  23. I hope you all know that if we trade Escobar, we will give Hardy a contract that will look much worse than Hall's. It isn't that we NEED either of the two to be the SS of the future, but one will be. And if we trade Escobar, Hardy will be making so much for so little production, it will be unbelievable. Just keep that in mind when you throw Escobar's name in for rental plus pitching.
  24. Halladay doesn't want to hit. He's unlikely to sign with an NL team when his contract is up. He's said the former. Someone has the quote somewhere I am sure.
