  1. Does anyone know which players went the previous year? Considering their proximity to the majors, Im kind of suprised Peralta went instead of Rivas
  2. I understand your point of view but the brewers are going for it this year. Also there are plenty of decent closers on the market right now so i dont think the return would be that impressive.
  3. Considering the majority of the Brewer's pitchers know how to swing the bat, there is a good chance that the pitcher bats 8th and Gomez. In the 2hole I would go with Hart and Luccroy batting 6th.
  4. what do the reds think
  5. There is always the option of staying in house: Cruz would be good on D, tryout Ferris at SS, or resign counsell. These options would be cheap. Financial flexibility at the deadline in case of injuries is a must.
  6. Maybe even three times. Assuming the brewers extend either marcum or greinke and arent in the playoff race at the 2012 trade deadline, they will easily be able to trade the other one for a decent bounty
  7. if i remember correctly from last years scouting reports, there is no reason why Dickerson cant blossom into Cain
  8. I can't say I love including Odorizzi, Cain, Escobar, and Jeffress all in one deal. I would be much happier if either Odorizzi or Cain were excluded. However, none of those prospects are going to be way above average (e.i. Braun, Gallardo, or Fielder types).
  9. i dont really trust Grienke, there is a chance that he may not recover
  10. This isn’t particularly the logic that I want my team’s general manager using every year but…. The bullpen is above average, cheap, and improving. Except for first base, it is highly unlikely that Melvin will be shopping for new position players in the next 3 years. They have a large amount of their cap room available this year and for the following years. We desperately need starting pitchers for the next 2 years and have the money to spend now; so why not fill our only need with the best pitcher available. In addition, there are approximately5 better free agent pitchers than Pavano that may be available in 2012, all of which may require more $$$/yr.
  11. I like this trade if the Brewers are able to extend both Weeks and Marcum. Let Fielder hit FA for 2 draft picks and move Gamel to 1st. Yo, Marcum, Wolf, ______, and Narveson may just be good enough to contend in the central with a plus offense and bullpen. I would prefer a low money deal going to Kevin Correia
  12. Assuming Covey is signed, this is how i rank my starting pitchers (as of 08/9) 1a) Odorizzi 1b) Heckathorn 3) Covey 4) Scarpetta 5) Peralta 6) Rivas 7) Rogers 8) Lasker 9) Howell 10) Butler
  13. I cant handle both Parra and Narveson in the same rotation. Let Parra, Narveson, Rivas, and Butler fight for the 5th spot. For the Brewers to be competitive they need to bring in 2 pitcher as upgrades. Hopefully Fielder can be exchanged for one and sign a guy like Vazquez as a stop gap until Rivas, Scarpetta, Peralta, Heckathorn, Odorizzi are ready to produce.
  14. Good news! I was dreading the worst, an injury
  15. Considering their stuff and production here is how I would rank the top 10 relievers 1. Jeffress 2. Hinton 3. Kitzler 4. Lamontange 5. Hand 6. McClendon 7. Pokorny 8. Ramlow 9. Wooten 10. Frerichs
  16. Ranking the Brewers relievers Almost all prospect rankings ignore the majority of relievers (rightfully so). I am curious to see how others would rank these brewers relievers: Kintzler, McClendon, Hand, Hinton, Lanontagne, Ramlow (L), Pokorny (L), and Frerichs. I think it would be fair to include Jeffress, Rogers, and maybe Butler. Is there anyone else I skipped?
  17. Too live brew by "buy low" FA starters, i was referring to someone that other GM arent high on. for example, last years Colby Lewis type of player that wont cost a lot . Maybe someone like Bedard or more likely someone that I have never heard of before. low risk, unknown reward
  18. One of Mevlin's strength seems to be waiver pick up. I wish he would try to find some buy low FA starters.
  19. After hearing that hart wanted to say in Milwaukee and that gamel and lawrie were going to switch positions, i told my friend that Milwaukee should should sign hart to a 2 year extension. With that being said, i am surprised hart inked this deal but it seems like a fair amount of money. Sign weeks to a similar extension, maybe an extra year. 5 mil 2012, 8mil 2012, 10 mil 2013 10or 12 mil in 1014. 4yr 32-34mil As for Cain and Escobar in the line up, I would predict that they will be in the 1,2, or 8 spot. Which ever one has a better OBP (my guess Cain) will be at the top of the order. And Lawrie wont be will the brewers mid 2011 AND FIGURE A WAY TO GET SOME FRONTLINE PITCHING FROM 2011-2013
  20. Assume weeks get an extension. there are 3 players for 3 positions (1B, 3B, and RF). what is the ideal combination for McGehee, Gamel, and Lawrie??? I am thinking Lawrie 3B, Gamel RF, and McGehee 1B. But now Hart has gone public and says he wants anextention. More assumptions... Hart stays in RF, Weeks at 2B, Lawrie moves at 3B, and Gamel at 1B. I am taking out McGehee because he has the lowest ceiling. I there a better combination?
  21. The only chance of making the playoff again is if we keep prince and sign Cliff Lee (if he wants to come here). Otherwise DM shouldn't make any move that will impede 2012 and 2013. Here is what i would consider. If the goal was to get to .500, DM needs to bring 2 better pitcher than Wolf and have parra and Narverson battle for the 5th spot Trade Hart for a potential # 3 Call up Gamel RF or 1B and Cain C Lucroy 1B Fielder (Lawrie in waiting) 2B Weeks, extend him for 3/4 yr 3B McGehee SS Escobar RF Gamel LF Braun CF Cain INF Farris, Inglett OF Gomez, katin C Kottaras Bullpen CL Axford SU Braddock RP Loe RP Hawkins RP Coffee 5th starter and 2 Long RP Parra, Narveson, Villanueva starters Gallardo Hart's acquisition Free agent Wolf Manager- Don Money GM Doug Melvin I figure the payroll to be $52 mil before harts acquisition and the free agent. If dreams came true, cliff lee would sign here for 20-22 mil/yr. More realistically we can get Lilly or Webb
  22. will macha be around to make the choice to bench him. I have always been a Gamel fan, but i dont know who (McGehee, Hart) i would bench so he gets at bats.
  23. I like that they are trying Gamel at 1B and RF and Lawrie at outfield and 3B. 2011 & 2012 C Lucroy 1B Gamel (L) 2B Weeks orFarris (L) 3B McGehee or Lawrie SS Escobar RF Lawrie CF Cain LF Braun weeks/ Farris Escobar or Cain Gamel Braun Lawrie McGehee Lucroy Cain or Escy P Bench: Gindl (L), gomez?, Inglett (L), Farris is Weeks is extended, Kottaras
  24. can someone remind me what the regulations are for how teams pick the players to attend AFL
  25. This is easily my biggest fear. Take the best talent you can get. If that talent is in the majors, great. If that talent is in A+, do it. I don't want to limit the talent that we get because they weren't major leaguers or weren't major league ready. I almost cried at your last sentence HtR. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I have been thinking about this for a while. In hindsight, do u think the Indians wish they would have Cain over Brantley. DM should be concerned about getting the best baseball players available, not the 2010 attendance or 2011 roster
