  1. Check out the splits from an admitted steroid user, Ken Caminiti, who says he started using steroids in the 2nd half of 1996 (the year he won the MVP) 1st Half: 12 HR, 49 RBI, .294 BA, .859 OPS 2nd Half: 28 HR, 81 RBI, .360 BA, 1.203 OPS http://www.baseball-refer...=caminke01&year=1996&t=b I've seen no such strange splits or bizarre stat trends in Braun's career. Unless one is going to claim that he's been juicing his whole career...
  2. Exactly. This is looking more and more like it is just horrible journalism by ESPN, out to sensationalize something that should have never come to light. There has been no suspension. The 2nd test was negative.
  3. They cannot officially announce the signing until the player takes a physical, and Gonzalez is due to arrive from Venezuela on Monday. It will be announced on Monday
  4. The more the night goes on and the more info that comes out, the more I think Braun is innocent and will be found innocent.
  5. Yes! And I'll be standing behind Braun no matter how this case turns out. And if I'm the "lone man out on the prairie" that's OK. In my mind, even if found guilty, then I'll think of Braun as a person who made a mistake and had to pay for it. Maybe the mistake was accidental. Maybe the mistake wasn't Braun's and is the result of some inaccuracy with the testing. To me, its important to remember that these athletes we root for are human, and capable of making dumb decisions or just being negligent in what exactly they are putting in their bodies with all the supplements they take. I'll still be rooting for Braun no matter what happens with this case...
  6. "A source close to Braun said that when he was told about the positive test, he immediately requested to be tested again. That second test, the source said, was not positive. Those close to Braun believe that the difference between the two tests will show that the first test was invalid." I think this is a very important point here... My hopes are that the results of this drama will not be that Ryan is forever known as a "juicer", but instead will show that more accurate tests need to be developed and Braun will be in the starting lineup on Opening Day
  7. I will still root for Ryan Braun. He'll still be my favorite player. I'm hopeful he wins the appeal. As others have said, there is a lot more we need to know about this case.
  8. For some reason I just strongly believe that Braun will win the appeal
  9. I am inclined to believe Braun, that either he accidently took something or that there are highly unusual circumstances surrounding the case that will come out to prove his innocence. Some of the folks here, with all due respect, are jumping to some crazy conclusions. Worst case scenario is he sits 50 games and we all move on from this. I will admit it was tough sitting my 8 year old kid down and explaining all this to him so that he heard it from me first and not on the MLB Network.
  10. The more I think about it and considering every factor, I'd rather have Gonzalez than Furcal. Granted Furcal has more upside, but Gonzalez is a better fielder than Furcal and has a much much better chance of staying healthy all season. (And is much less expensive).
  11. I'd be surprised if Aramis Ramirez didn't hit 30 HR's playing 81 games in Miller Park. Granted, Wrigley Field is a HR park, too, but playing indoors in April & September trumps those cold winds sometimes blowing in at Wrigley.
  12. If the Cardinals weren't going to break the bank for Jimmy Rollins, then it was either Furcal or Betancourt or someone like Cedeno. The Cardinals were somewhat forced to overpay for Furcal
  13. Ramirez is completely a Doug Melvin type of player: veteran with home run power, not the greatest fielder but a former All-Star.
  14. yeah, I guess "high ceiling" isn't exactly the best words to use, but I see no reason why Casey cannot return to the .337-.360 OBP, .800-.850 OPS player that he was in '09/'10.
  15. McGehee is the prototypical buy low hope for a high ceiling comeback season type candidate. Not convinced we should just give him away for nothing.
  16. I predict that Greinke will either sign longterm with the Brewers or will go back to Kansas City and sign there
  17. I think the Brewers should keep K-Rod unless given a great trade offer for him. He has value. No reason to just give him away for nothing. We could have gotten 2 first round picks if he had declined Arby, and if keeping him we have one of the best 8th inning guys in MLB.
  18. Nick Punto and Ryan Theriot are way better options You need solid defense from the backup middle infielder, because Rickie Weeks has been injured and missed significant time in every season of his career except one. And Gonzalez is 35 years old and will need a game off a week or so...
  19. Respectfully, I disagree, for the reasons I already gave. I think Yuni B would be pretty much useless as a 25th man. It'd be better to bring Counsell back, seriously, or Josh Wilson. At least they can play defense
  20. I cannot imagine a worse possible backup than Yuniesky Betancourt. First of all, you want your backup infielder to be very good or at least solid defensively. Yuni B is a horrible fielder. 2nd, you want a backup who can pinch hit, get on base, work a pitch count. You do not want Yuni B pinch hitting, swinging at the first pitch and waddling down the base path after hitting a pop-up Yuni B is the Anti-Craig Counsell
  21. Weeks had a .333 OBP as a 22 year old rookie in 2005. No comparison really to Gomez' offensive struggles
  22. Actually I think the good news is that Gonzalez had more HR's than Yuni B last season, which to Doug Melvin equates to being a "better" player. (not sure whether to put that in Blues or not...)
  23. Gonzalez really isn't much better of a hitter than Yuni, he is a free swinger who doesn't walk much ... he does have more power than Yuni. The difference is that he is a much better fielder than Yuni
  24. I think there is a slight chance that Gonzalez could hit 20 HR's playing fulltime in Miller Park, too. He hit 15 in Atlanta last year and Miller Park is much more of a hitter's ballpark
  25. Is it out of the realm of possibilities for the Arbitrator to view K-Rod as an 8th inning set-up man and not a closer? K-Rod was an 8th inning set-up man for Milwaukee last season and by accepting Arbitration he is agreeing to that position again for 2012. Why should he be viewed and slotted as a closer when he's essentially agreeing here to be a set-up man?
