  1. That sounds like a team that would win 75 games or so in 2011. Which, I suppose, is fine if it is part of a rebuilding towards 2012 and 2013
  2. I would think any trade with the Giants would happen at the end of this series, not in the middle of it. It'd be awfully strange to see Hart starting in a Giants uniform, in Miller Park, tonight or tommorow! In fact, while I'm sure it has happened a few times in MLB history, I cannot recall such a scenario
  3. Of course they don't. Teixeira's contract probably pays him more than he projects to be worth while Fielder will probably make somewhere close to what he's worth over the next 1+ years. If those assumptions are correctI, Fielder is worth more in a trade. I was saying that in reference to those who look at Teixeira trades in the past and thinking that is what a Fielder trade will bring in. I'm saying that Teixeira is a better overall player and Fielder's trade value isn't what Teixeira's was in the past. Not comparing their trade values in 2010
  4. Teixeira and Fielder have remarkably similar batting stats, but Teixeira is a Gold Glover defensively. Fielder and Teixeira do not have equal trade value.
  5. Hart for Bumgarner would be a shocking steal for the Brewers and I'd be thrilled. Prince Fielder for Madison Bumgarner is a more likely scenario. I'd still be thrilled
  6. Escobar will be just fine. He's making some rookie mistakes, but has also made some spectacular defensive plays I'm more concerned about his bat. His OPS right now is brutal, even worse than JJ Hardy's was in his rookie season. Batting him in the 8 slot isn't helping
  7. Good to know that some of you think this is realistic. And I suppose the "contend till July, trade for a rental arm at the deadline" scenario makes the most sense. I just don't want to see them trade Brett Lawrie away for a one year window. I doubt they would trade Alcides Escobar, and I'm not sure how much they could for a Mat Gamel, Carlos Gomez or Lorenzo Cain type. So therein lies the question surrounding the reality that "you can't get something for nothing"
  8. Rolling the dice on Parra is a tough bet. Signing a Cliff Lee sounds like a serious long-shot, and a move that could hurt us financially long-term Is Mark A thinking about having us trade away Lawrie, Gamel, and Alcides Escobar for pitching?
  9. Indications in some of the interviews Mark A has given recently show that he is in favor of keeping Fielder and Hart for 2011 and making a run at the playoffs next year. My question is not whether that is a smart move, my question is: what is he thinking? In what way could this team possibly move from where they are now to playoffs next year? And I ask that in all seriousness. We don't have the pitching. Is he thinking we're going to sign or trade for enough pitching in the off-season? How? Somehow are Parra and Narveson going to turn into Wainright and Garcia? I'm asking seriously: is there any way this makes sense? Is there some pitching ace or two looming in free agency we could actually sign?
  10. Even though we are apparently not going to see Macha fired tommorow (Monday) I think we'll still likely see a few significant changes, including maybe seeing Suppan and Vargas DFA'ed, maybe someone like Seth McClung signed, or someone brought up from the minors
  11. Hart's value is starting to rise. Maybe we can deal him at the deadline and Melvin could actually not sell low on a player for a change
  12. http://onmilwaukee.com/sports/articles/mcclungwantstopitch.html Why not bring McClung back? He'd certainly be better than Suppan/Vargas/Stetter etc
  13. I'm not "demoralized", but lets just say my expectations for this team are very very low. Lower than since maybe 2006 or early 2007. I definitely don't think the Milwaukee Brewers as a "product" are worth spending money on for tickets right now. We have good seats for the Mariners next month. I don't think I'll buy any more tickets until Macha is fired or until the quality of play goes way up, at least I'll continue to watch the games on TV and root for the team, I'm a die-hard fan
  14. it is bad when you've lost track of the losing streak. What is this, 11 out of the last 12?
  15. It is Melvin, apparently, who seems willing to sink or swim with Ken Macha. Attanasio's analogy of playing the stock market (you don't just start selling just because stocks go down) is telling. A baseball season, or a small window left of the Fielder era, is much shorter than the long-term goals one has when playing the stock market. With the mistakes Melvin has made, however, there isn't a manager alive who could get this team into the World Series this year. A manager who could at least get us going in the right direction and properly develop the younger players would be a step in the right direction, however
  16. Agreed and that is what it will take: lots of empty seats. Mark A is a money manager at heart and when the losing starts affecting the bottom line he'll make changes. The way this team is playing and being managed I for one will not be rushing out to buy any more tickets with our hard earned money and I'm sure many other fans feel the same way.
  17. He'd be hitting better than .241 if he wasn't usually in the 8 spot, but then that's Ken Macha for you I like Escobar's potential alot
  18. Ugh. Ugly situation brewin'... Mark A goes on to say that it will take more than just one bad season for Melvin to be fired, too... Perhaps if Mark A won't listen to fans complaining then maybe he'll pay more attention when fans stop showing up at Miller Park
  19. Not that I'm wishing Ned Yost was still our manager, but it would have been extremely entertaining watching Yost flip out on the umpire after that 1st inning argument between Bush and the ump. Macha has no fire...
  20. To paraphrase Bob Uecker ("we're just 2 grand-slams away from tieing this baby up!"): Yeah but if we can get two solid starters, a closer, a lead-off hitter, another .350+ OBP hitter, plus a competent manager and pitching coach, we could make the playoffs!!!
  21. I think both Macha and Peterson will be fired on Monday. Randolph will be promoted to manager. A pitching coach from the minors will likely be promoted to the big league club. I think Melvin is on very thin ice but Mark A won't make that change until the off-season
  22. Lucroy doesn't appear ready for MLB, but with Salome and Zaun out, he is the logical choice. I'll look forward to seeing his debut. I wonder how much he'll catch during this time, maybe once every 3-4 games or so? Since Lucroy's bat is more MLB ready than his defense, maybe we'll see him DH in the Twins series No matter what happens during Zaun's 15 day DL, this will be good for Lucroy's development in the long run
  23. I apologize for my faulty memory in regards to my earlier comment about "if Sheets had been healthy would Melvin have still traded for Sabathia". Of course Sheets was healthy at the time of that trade. But my point remains the same: If Gallardo had been healthy would Melvin have still traded for Sabathia? I don't think so. That trade was a reaction to having one of our top pitchers hurt in order to push us into the playoffs. If Gallardo had been healthy, I don't think Melvin would have made that trade that could have pushed us over the top
  24. Ask yourself this: if Ben Sheets had been healthy and pitching like an ace in the summer of 2008, would Melvin still have made the Sabathia trade? Doing so would have put the Brewers in a legit spot to potentially win the World Series. I don't think that Melvin would have made that trade then... the goal being, in general, to be good enough to make the playoffs, "field a competitive team" etc, and generally get fans excited enough to come to the ballpark The moves since then reflect that ethos, being mostly concerned with "pleasing the fans" & "fielding a competitive team", no sense of rebuilding even for a year or two, thus a team now that is "stuck in neutral"
