  1. I disagree. I imagine they'd be willing to change the crown on the field at Camp Randall for the Olympics. Not that I'd expect more than 15,000 or so to watch the field hockey final anyways.
  2. Fiers has thrown 135 innings so far this season, so he figures to have 25-35 left, right? Five starts, so early September sounds about right. I think it will be tough for Fiers to catch Miley at this point, as Miley has 50 more IP than Fiers to this point and I don't think Miley will be on an innings limit. I suppose all we can do is hope for Fiers to continue to dominate and Miley to give up a couple of ten-spots . Harper has been a league average player up to this point. There really aren't any rookie position players in the NL who have been as successful as Miley, Fiers, and even Lance Lynn. Looks like the ROY ought to go to a pitcher this season.
  3. I noticed Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham are the two lowest in ratings. Looks like markets in Eastern time tend to have lower ratings, perhaps part of that is due to the fact that many of the good events start after 10:00 PM ET. Still, I'm not sure why the ratings are so low here. Milwaukee is a great sports town, so it doesn't surprise me to see them on top. Lambeau and Camp Randall could be used for soccer, field hockey, etc. and the Kohl Center and Bradley Center for basketball. They'd need a new stadium for track and field though, which would probably just sit empty after the Olympics.
  4. Board ate my lame K-Rod joke. I bought a K-Rod backpack, but it didn't hold anything.
  5. Well, that seems to be about par for the course for the US women these past couple years. You have to feel for Canada here. Hopefully they can at least bring home a bronze.
  6. I am amazed that I will never see a "Izturis DFA'd" thread. Well I will at least watch the game tonight.
  7. Hawing, the way I see it he just stumbled in the direction of the ball. That's far more likely than Yuni actually bending over for a ground ball.
  8. Wow, thanks for the explanation. I knew he was a tool, but that's a whole new level of toolhood.
  9. Yuni's OBP is .012 higher than Izturis'. Can we just have some fun with this and start Gomez or Morgan at SS? Maybe put Livan Hernandez out there for a few innings. Don't tell me you wouldn't watch.
  10. 0-5? Clearly he couldn't handle the pressure of the big leagues. For the Brewers, I'd go to the last game of 2008. For the non-Brewers, I'm going to stray a bit, and say the 1935 Negro League East-West All Star Game at Comiskey Park. The game featured 14 Hall of Famers: Leon Day, Martin Dihigo, Biz Mackey, Ray Brown, Josh Gibson, Mule Suttles, Cool Papa Bell, Oscar Charleston, Ray Dandridge, Willie Wells, Satchel Paige, Turkey Strearnes, Buck Leonard, and Jud Wilson. The game was tied 4-4 going into the tenth, both teams scored 4 in the 10th, and Mule Suttles hit a 2-out, 3R HR in the bottom of the 11th to win the game, 11-8.
  11. Andrew McCutchen: Not a sissy. http://deadspin.com/5931869/andrew-mccutchen-gets-hit-by-a-101-mph-fastball-shows-us-what-a-badass-he-is
  12. Could somebody be so kind to give a quick summary of why Sheffield is so hated in Milwaukee? I know he was a tool and accused the club of being racist (wiki), but what are the specifics? Briggs - that's really cool. It's pretty neat that we have folks on this board who watched Hank Aaron play.
  13. Figured that might be the case. I prefer the Ryan Braun to 60-day DL thread from a few years back.
  14. I had NG's Saison the first time they brewed it a few years back, and I remember it being good with lots of apricot flavor, but bordering on cloyingly sweet. Iceland would be a neat place to visit, just not for the beer/food!
  15. Does anybody know the value of Ramirez' mutual option in 2015? If it's under $12-14MM, and Ramirez continues to play well over the next couple of seasons, there's a decent chance the Brewers can avoid that $4MM buyout.
  16. I see no reason to move Braun to 1B yet, but I'd definitely consider it in the future as a measure to increase his durability. I don't have enough faith in any of Schaefer, Gindl, Prince, or Ke. Davis to step into an outfield role next year and provide much. For the most part, those guys have been average to below average at AAA this season, and at this point I expect I'm not the only one who views these guys as 4th OF types rather than everyday MLB players. For me, a lot of this depends on whether the club thinks Jean Segura will be ready to be an everyday starter for the Brewers next season and whether the club can bring back a healthy Shaun Marcum on a short-term deal. If they can do both of those things, they should have a decent chance at being competitive next season. A lineup of Aoki-Weeks-Braun-Ramirez-Hart-Lucroy-Gomez-Segura-P is pretty solid, but even with Marcum a rotation of Gallardo-Marcum-Fiers-Estrada-???/FA concerns me.
  17. [sarcasm]gregmag: Counterargument: Derek Jeter[/sarcasm] Weeks' batting line is pretty much league average at this point: .212/.329/.377. I, for one, am still happy about the contract extension he signed a few years ago. Assuming the 2015 option vests, Weeks is under contract for 3 years, $31.5MM. That's the exact number Michael Cuddyer signed for this offseason. Mark my words that Weeks will easily be worth that for the Brewers from 2013-2015.
  18. 1. Prince Fielder's 2nd career HR, a 2R walk-off HR to beat the Pirates 2-1 2. A few years ago (2006?) I went to a game with my brothers, and they had some silly dance promotion where they picked two people in the stadium to dance on the jumbotron between innings for some silly prize. My brother proudly thrusted and spanked his way to the victory. I'm not sure how long the promotion lasted, but I never saw it again. 3. 5 HR's in one inning vs. Cincinnati a few years back
  19. I had to stuff the ballot for the wheats. So many other breweries make solid IIPA, BIPA's, Bocks, Brown Ales, etc. New Glarus' Wheat beers are really on another level, and I can count on a single hand the number of wheats I've had that I think are in the same ballpark as NG's.
  20. Rumor has it Mat Gamel is very fond of large orange traffic cones. From what I hear, he also has a sister that is willing to defend his rebellious good looks.
  21. Color me unimpressed when it comes to the Byzantine empire. They couldn't hold it together when it really counted. Jeter wouldn't have let Constantinople fall in 1204.
  22. Todd Frazier of the Reds has also been a bit better than Harper, albeit in a bit less playing time. As of right now I Miley deserves the award, he's had an outstanding rookie season, and will probably end up with ~60 more IP than Fiers. If Fiers can keep his ERA below 2.00 and finish with ~110-120 IP, I'll be surprised and willing to argue that he deserves the NL ROY.
  23. That is a bit funny. I'd let them have Veras and give them a few bucks at this point. Also, Chad Qualls is not very good anymore.
  24. Villanueva looks like a pretty nice pickup, but the Rangers obviously gave up far less than the Angels. I'm sure the Cubs would have rather had the Delgado package.
