  1. Here we go... I am hoping for another Greinke homer before the end of the year. He has put up a pretty nice batting line in his limited plate appearances.
  2. Narveson is an irresponsible rube. He should be sent to Nashville. This shouldn't be too much of a problem. Nine days does seem like a short recovery period though.
  3. Everybody knows it's Bernie Brewer. If the number of K's up is somewhere between 0 and 20, Chris Carpenter is going to throw a hanging curveball.
  4. Thome's career ranks in a few categories: OPS: 17th oWAR: 45th SLG: 20th OBP: 50th HR: 8th RBI: 27th TB: 40th OPS+: 40th He just about has to be one of the 50 greatest hitters of all time. He's a great player, and a tip of the cap is much deserved.
  5. I don't think they are the be all end all either, but the fact that the fans, UZR, and DRS all say he is far and away worse than any other starting SS in baseball has to mean something. Using three statistics probably does take some of the noise out of these statistics. You continue to bring up the year to year correlation as a reason not to use these statistics or to question their validity. That's why people generally don't (or shouldn't) use them on a year-by-year basis. Over three or four years, these statistics are much more accurate, and over three or four years, these statistics have said Yuni is awful at defense. They're obviously imperfect and probably nowhere near as good as FieldFX, but when all of them say Yuni has been that bad I think it's pretty telling. Like Rluz said, I think this is pretty much us just rehashing the same "Yuni is terrible" vs. "Yuni is bad" conversation. If some day FieldFX is made available, we'll be able to settle this whole Yuni debate with more precision.
  6. Perhaps we ought to send cpebbles on a mission to find some hidden treasure. He'll probably find something more substantial in that endeavor than he has in his current one.
  7. FieldFX is not publicly available. I am using 3 figures to describe Yuni's terribleness because they aren't that accurate. The fact that all three of these say he is horrendously awful is pretty telling.
  8. If Yuni has changed his approach and become a much better hitter, that's awesome for him. It's just really difficult for me to accept that conclusion after only ~100 PA's. Look, here's what Yuni has done this season with the bat: .268/.286/.391 (wRC+ 80). Here's what Yuni has done over the past 3.5 seasons as a defender: UZR of -49.1, DRS of -65, FSR of -50 from 2009-2010. Edit: Over that time period, the net lowest UZR among qualified SS is -17.7. The next lowest FSR is -19. The next lowest DRS is -32. He is far and away the worst defensive starting SS in the game.
  9. Well yeah, I should have put something in italics. His wRC+ is 79 right now and should be over 80 when it's updated tomorrow. He has certainly been bad, but not *terrible*.
  10. Would you be willing to start a Ryan Braun bashing campaign? That would probably push him up to a 1.300 OPS. Up to this point, Yuni's bat has not been that bad. He's had a nice little streak, and he seems like a likable fellow. His defense is just hard to stomach.
  11. Adam Dunn's 2011 batting line: .163/.294/.302/.596 That's pretty incredible.
  12. I love watching Cops. It's hugely entertaining. Campus PD is probably better though. There's not much as satisfying as watching broskis go to the drunk tank.
  13. It's always hard going to St. Louis because of the way they steal signs and spike the Brewers' water supply with malt liquor. Still though, 1-2 will be a disappointment. A two game lead at this point is not enough for me to be happy.
  14. For all the flack Greinke got earlier in the season, his ERA is now down to 4.24. It's not unreasonable to expect his ERA to be around the 3.50-3.75 level by the end of the season.
  15. Greinke clearly knows he needs to keep his pitch count down. Nothing like a run down for the third out.
  16. Prince angry about world. Make ball go far.
  17. Really Ron? Your best move with a 2-0 count and Braun and Fielder coming up is a sacrifice bunt? This lineup is too weak today to just give away outs.
  18. Based on what? He's below average, but to call him terrible is pretty unfair.
  19. Hairston is pretty much the definition of a grizzled veteran though. He has a K-Rate <12%, has played for 8 different teams, and has nearly 1000 base hits in his career. He doesn't hit for power but has a good eye at the plate. He's also only 5'10" and can play multiple positions. He's an epic gamer.
  20. Hairston now has 14 AB's in his six games as a Brewer, with his only two starts coming in CF. Counsell is starting at 3B today, Yuni at SS, and Lopez at 2B. He's a better hitter than McGehee, Betancourt, and Lopez. He's a better fielder than McGehee, Betancourt, and Lopez. Anybody know why he isn't playing?
  21. Can we add Jerry Hairston Jr. to the group of Brewers who probably ran over Ron Roenicke's dog? Maybe the worst lineup of the season, but it is still the Astros, and it's still Greinke vs. Norris (although he has been surprisingly effective this season).
  22. T. Plush literally FTW! Oh boy. Hopefully Ax is okay.
  23. Comic Book Guy - "Guh- Guh Guh Guh GIRL!"
