  1. What are you basing this on? Ask any scout or consult any defensive metric and you'll see that Betancourt has terrible range while Hardy has pretty decent range. Calling Betancourt's range "Hardyesque" is like calling Wil Nieves' bat "Brian McCann-esque".
  2. I'd love to rag on Betancourt a bit more, but that throw was 95% on Fielder. It wasn't a good throw, but I'm betting a typical 1B makes that catch 90-95% of the time. But yes, that was a routine play and Betancourt should have hit the money.
  3. ^ The thought of a 380 pound Prince Fielder playing 1st base for the Cubs gave me quite a laugh. For the Red Sox, Gonzalez will probably be worth it. They're just in an entirely different league when it comes to marginal revenue from wins. I won't mind having him outside of the NL.
  4. 1) Kotsay on the roster wouldn't be terrible as long as he never saw the field. At best, having him on the roster is a waste of a spot that could be used on somebody at least mildly productive. Starting Kotsay over Morgan against RHP's is horrible. 2) Nieves I won't fight that hard against, Kottaras is not clearly better, although I would probably go with Kottaras. 3) Even in this lineup, there is no way Gomez should hit second. 4) Betancourt is mostly on Melvin, but why not start Counsell 3 times a week at SS? 5) Don't be surprised.
  5. Hopefully I can catch a replay of Plush's "double". Would he have made it to third if he hadn't stumbled? I imagine he'll have a twitter post up within the next few minutes.
  6. 120 seems like a lot for a young catcher like Lucroy, especially since he missed 10 games. Hopefully he can hold up and develop. If Lucroy is indeed going to start 110-120 games, Kottaras better be the one to stick around. Unlike Nieves, he is a better pinch hitting option than Yovani Gallardo.
  7. I was down in the Raleigh area last weekend and I must say they've got a pretty good beer scene down there. Found a great bottle shop in Durham that had just about anything imaginable available as a single. Unfortunately, I could only grab a sixer because I didn't bring any checked bags and couldn't bring any beer home! Anyways, I was really impressed with two beers: Highland Little Hump and Mother Earth Endless River Kolsch. Highland Little Hump is one of those new ultralight pale ales, weighing in at 4.5% and probably around 25 IBU's. I've really enjoyed some of those ultralights. Endless River Kolsch is a Kolsch, a style I don't know too much about. Anyways, it made me think of kind of a fruitier hybrid of a good pilsner and a helles; moderate hop flavor profile with a touch of malty sweetness.
  8. Dear Randy, Thank you for reminding us that you are not Jeff Suppan. Sincerely, Brewer Nation
  9. Have you tried T PLUSH? Also, excellent name. "I bent my wookie"
  10. Oh no, not this again! McGehee will be fine most likely. The rest of the guys who are sucking were expected to suck. I'm not overly worried about things so far; once Hart gets back Kotsay will find himself on the bench, where he can't hurt the club anymore.
  11. That's not good. Hopefully something isn't seriously wrong with him. Perhaps it would be best to send him down for 10-12 days for him to work out whatever is going on. Oh, and I like this pitching staff more than last year's.
  12. That's a pretty low blow from Hamilton. It's not like he was out by a mile. It's too bad he keeps going down, he just has such a sweet stroke.
  13. I don't know why, but this made me think of that scene in The Simpsons where Moe tells Homer he can flash fry a whole buffalo in twelve minutes..."Twelve minutes??? But I want it now!" I'm pumped they're coming back; every day Mark Kotsay is in the lineup feels like an eternity.
  14. I'll take the doubleheader. That seems like the only way we can get Kotsay on the bench for a game. Seriously, what is Roenicke thinking with Kotsay? Heck, if anything why not sit Gomez and play Plush in CF against righties? Melvin has to know better, right? At what point does he call up Ronny boy and tell him to get Plush in the outfield against righties?
  15. Hogwash! If there's ever a year for my Canucks, this is it. I have a really bad feeling about the Blackhawks in the first round though...The Canucks are a much better team, but they've been given fits by the Hawks the past two years...
  16. Well that's one worthless player gone. Three catchers on the roster does seem unnecessary though.
  17. I'd probably send Braddock down to try and get his velocity up, and just keep him there for a couple weeks until the next injury. I'd probably just release Green as well, I just don't think he's terribly valuable to this organization. This is a really solid looking bullpen when everybody is healthy, so hopefully guys can stay off the DL.
  18. This was the first game I was able to watch this season (albeit with Bob Brenly's anti-Brewers commentary), and I sure wasn't disappointed. This was one of those classic wins against a bitter rival that you remember for a little while, at least until the next series. It's nice to 5-5, but Roenicke's lineup construction has been pretty brutal up to this point. Kotsay hitting 5th? Morgan on the bench against a RHP? Gomez hitting second? C'mon man.
  19. I'm really curious to know Roenicke's justification for starting Ol' Man Kotsay out in right field. Plush would look so much better than Gomez in the two hole right now.
  20. > Looper (bradis loopus homergiveruppicus)
  21. Tony Plush thought it would be better to save his awesomeness for a closer game.
  22. ^ I think Imo's is what I had, now that you mention it. The delivery guy was pretty classy though.
  23. Well, he has 19 K's to 1BB, but he does have that 6.00 ERA. Yup, he sucks! Whip away!
  24. Fixed. I do like the idea of a good defensive backup catcher, Nieves is just far too weak of a batter for me to tolerate. I'm really hoping Lucroy blossoms when he comes back. Narvdog must be throwing the ball well tonight. He's made a pretty strong case for himself in his first two starts. Let's hope I didn't just jinx him.
