  1. What exactly could that $10M be spent on for next year? The whole amount will get you basically a Soria-like reliever or an average at best player at any other position. Or you could split it among different players and get a bunch of Eric Sogard's. It's basically a market value contract and if Soria finishes like he started I really hope they exercise that option.
  2. Guess there's some observational bias on my part then. But, even though his walk rate is down a tick, 4.1 is still not good. I guess the real problem is that he's giving up more hits and homers and the rate increases on those far outweigh the small improvement in the walk rate. Knebel couldn't throw a strike to Matt Adams a couple days ago but yet he was swinging at everything. He control was atrocious in that inning but somehow got out of it without giving up any walks.
  3. Currently, the Brewers have played 6 more games than the Braves. And a quick glance shows they've played 4-6 less games than most other teams. That seems impossible. Also must give them a horrible schedule crunch to end the season.
  4. Even if they essentially get him for free I don't see this as a great get for the Cubs. Does it make them better? Sure, but not much better.
  5. He hit a couple balls hard last night but still looks like a 12 year old trying to hit MLB pitching.
  6. I brought him up in the Fulmer thread. Salary isn't much, shouldn't cost much to acquire, and still has a year of team control. Plus the whole pitching well thing.
  7. Suter won't be doing anything for awhile. He should work with Orlando on hitting.
  8. Stay hot Orlando. Pitches actually move outside of Colorado.
  9. Seriously, after one AB? Yup. Same crappy approach. Swung out of his shoes at a pitch no where near the plate with 2 strikes.
  10. Honestly feel like most interest by teams in players is just made up by writers so they have something to report. GM's deny it when asked about it anyway.
  11. When and why is he getting DFA'd? He'll be on the 60 day DL at some point for the rest of the year to not take up a 40 man spot. And if the Brewers want to or think they have any chance at keeping him they will simply non-tender and then resign him in the offseason. No reason to risk waivers or rule 5. Well people are talking about the rule 5 draft, the Brewers can't just sign him to a minor league contract he has to go through the DFA process and everybody would have a shot at him. If they non-tender him, he is a free agent and free to sign whatever type of contract he wants.
  12. Not Soria-specific question. The CBA allows 72 hours to report. Has any player ever taken close to that long to report when it is a trade to a contending team? Didn't Swarzack take a long time last year? Someone traded to the Brewers in the last few seasons did I remember.
  13. No way they trade anyone of significance. They probably should but they won't. Also, wow, did not realize how bad Murphy has been this year.
  14. When and why is he getting DFA'd? He'll be on the 60 day DL at some point for the rest of the year to not take up a 40 man spot. 15. Our depth is: Woodruff, Wilkerson, Burnes, Houser, M.Diplan, Asher, L.Ortiz, T.Supak, Derby, Z.Brown (assuming injury is minor) The SP has taken a hit but it has never been this deep that I can remember. Still, I think Stearns will get a rental as we should not rely on kids in a playoff run. In 2018, that depth ends at Wilkerson. Burnes is not starting this year. Maybe Houser gets a shot but none of those other guys will be making a start in Milwaukee this year.
  16. I posted this in today's in-game thread but it looks like he swings down on the ball. But he squares it up and hits the holes and gaps. Reminds me of prime Ichiro. I doubt he's ever a consistent 20+ HR guy with that swing. But there's nothing wrong with batting .300 with a mid .800's OPS.
  17. Frazier is basically Brett Phillips at this point. Would I do Maverick for Happ? Maybe not, but I don't think that's a crazy overpay.
  18. The short life span of catchers and the fact they only play 2/3 of the time is not worth selling the farm. Trading for JT right now would be buying at likely his highest point. It's very unlikely he hits near .900 OPS ever again. Right now he's OPS'ing over 100 points over his career and higher than he ever has before.
  19. I don't think any of the SP are playing above their talent, they're just being used a way that gets the best results. This offense (outside of Yelich and Cain) is doing pretty much what it did last year outside of the first month and a half of 2017.
  20. The Brewers have scored 21 runs in 5 games since the break, not counting today. I'm not sure how much scoring you are expecting/hoping for. Sure it would be nice if we scored 8 runs per game, but how many teams are doing that? League average is 4.44 runs per game. Brewers score 4.34 per game. That's below average. Brewers allow 3.89 per game. 4th best in the league. The offense is clearly the problem.
  21. Brewers pitching is not, and has not been all year, the problem. It's the offense. Peralta's throwing a stinker today. Stinkers are going to happen. But when your offense puts up a stinker just about every game, that is the problem that needs to be addressed.
  22. Re: Yelich hitting too many ground balls. His swing really looks like he swings downward. But he hits it hard and generally in the holes. Reminds me a lot of Ichiro in his prime.
  23. For as crappy Freddy looked in the first, he looks not crappy since.
