  1. No, it's because if pitchers put anything near the plate he would deposit the ball in McCovey Cove, so pitchers just stopped throwing him strikes. I believe he also had years where his number of intentional walks was higher than every other team. I'm sure umps were also giving him the "if he didn't swing, it must have been a ball" treatment.
  2. The only thing to really worry about it that in a year plus, he's still a stupid baserunner. But I guess if Carlos Gomez taught us anything, it's that you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
  3. So this is where we're at now? Every player who outperforms expectations - Eric Thames, Trevor Story, Jake Arrieta, Jean Segura...many others, we're just going to start throwing around PED accusations? Pretty much, yup. Been this way for quite a few years now. It's sad but that's way it is and probably will be for a long time.
  4. That's only been mentioned about 500 times in this thread and many others. I think we'd all love to see it but many don't see the Brewers putting a AAA team so close to Milwaukee.
  5. Pitching development has gotten a lot of better the last few decades. High schoolers are hitting 100 MPH now. And hitting approach has changed. So you have the combination of lots of flamethrowing pitchers and batters who don't care if they swing and miss. Of course there's plenty of power in the game but pitching is always going to win, that's just the nature of the game, meaning hits are down and k's are up. I'd say it's currently pretty balanced between pitching and hitting it just seems like pitching is dominating because of the rise of K's.
  6. The numbers change each year, so there is no specific date. However, past seasons indicate that players who are kept in the minors 60 or so days or more do NOT get Super 2 status. The baseball season is 183 days. So as you look at these, you can see that the cutoff dates have ranged from 37 days of service (in 2011) to 61 (in two different years). Below is the year, followed by the service time needed to qualify for Super 2 in that year, plus the days needed to be kept in minors to avoid Super 2 (assuming the player has no other service time). Note: the baseball season is 183 days. 2016: 2.131 (52 days) 2015: 2.130 (53 days) 2014: 2.133 (50 days) 2013: 2.122 (61 days) 2012: 2.140 (43 days) 2011: 2.146 (37 days) 2010: 2.122 (61 days) 2009: 2.139 (44 days) Guys could have been called up as early as mid-May (2011) and not gotten Super 2 status. But the last few years the cutoff has roughly been the end of May. A team would be wise to wait until early/mid-June if they want to be safe. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/10/projected-super-two-cutoff-2016.html Because teams are being cognizant about that date so much now, you have to wonder how far back it will get pushed before it's addressed in the CBA. I mean we can't be too far from it getting into July.
  7. Brinson isn't coming up anytime soon. There's no reason to.
  8. Was it me or did Piscotty give Villar a pretty good shove as he popped up from his slide into second?
  9. Whatever roids Thames is on he really needs to share with the rest of the team. He's a bad teammate if he doesn't.
  10. I agree with your superstar stance, but PED's are diminishing the product on a more insidious level: pitching. The number of 100MPH pitchers, the insane number of no-hitters and the lights-out closers these days are changing the game, and not for the better. I'm not sure how you can blame PED's for the lack of offense in today's game when during the time where everyone was doing them offense was at it's height.
  11. Not sure how what I said was an attack. As others have pointed out you say a lot of things. Calling for signing Thames was one of them. So far it's worked out and you made sure we all knew that you wanted to sign him last year. You're love of Khris Davis but hated of other players who have the exact same game as he does is baffling. Your cherry-picking of stats to prove whatever point you want is well known. If you want to feel attacked, then that's cool beans to me. I guess we have a difference of opinion there and my sensibilities feel perfectly fine about it.
  12. Knebel clearly didn't have it today. A lot of this loss falls on Counsell for sticking with Corey despite his inability to throw strikes. He had both Feliz and Marinez warming up while Knebel was walking guys. It's not like he got to 2 outs and lost control, it was obvious from the first batter.
  13. As Brewer fans, I think we too should just keep our mouths shut when it comes to any PED accusations against Thames (or anyone else for that matter). We have no idea if he is, or isn't, or ever will take anything. How many here would have scoffed at the idea of Braun ever getting suspended for PED's 6 or 7 years ago?
  14. I don't give a rat's behind about PED's but MLB needs to stop parading around like conquering victors whenever they catch someone. It does no good for the sport. More NFL'ers get suspended every year for PED's than MLB players and barely a word is spoken about the players.
  15. I always thought Billy was little more forward thinking then that but he sounds like he's BFF's with Harold Reynolds.
  16. I've been wondering if his pads are even legal. I know a few years ago they had a crack down on anything that was covering more than a joint or injury. Thames pad goes from about mid forearm to mid bicep. Looks pretty similar to what Bonds was wearing before it was banned.
  17. NBA? I forgot that that's still going on. How nice to have an employer that let's you leave your job to go work for someone else (most likely for much more money) for weeks at a time. If he's doing NBA playoffs he's got to be gone for at least a month, right?
  18. Not that I'm missing him, but where's BA? It's been awhile since I've heard him do a game.
  19. I was wondering about him too after the WBC. He was locked in. Just did a quick Google of him to find his age (he's 31 going on 32) but he's got some domestic violence in his past. Not that that would prevent me from signing him but I wonder if that might be why his name is never brought up in rumors.
  20. The actual bigger screwjobs would come in betting $1 more than someone else's bid, thus making that person have to get it exactly correct. That's the exact situation he mentioned.
  21. Realistically, he's in his contract year when this team is (hopefully) a legitimate contender. They have no one to replace him right now but not trading him before then means the Brewers will get nothing in return. I suppose he's a QO possibility but I don't know if the team can/wants to afford a roughly $20M mid-30's 1B. If you get an amazing offer this year you pull the trigger but I really don't know what I would want the Brewers to do.
  22. I have no idea how posters here can continue excuse his utter stupidity on the bases by saying, "well, he does some good things." Obviously he does good things but when he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again that are 99% mental something has to be done. Maybe a benching will do something but it obviously hasn't stuck from the last time he was benched. What really needs to happen is a veteran needs to pull him aside and jack him up. Braun is really the only veteran on the team left and he's probably the one that's being hurt the most by Villar's brain gaffes but he doesn't seem to have that personality.
  23. At his ceiling Arcia isn't even a 2 hitter. No point in putting him there now.
  24. Not necessarily for sale, but if you're interested send me an offer. Mainly I'm looking for information on the signature.
