  1. Selling this stuff for my aunt. Would like to sell the whole lot for $25 (I'll pay for shipping). PM me if interested. I don't think the newspapers have seen the light of day since 1997 so they are in excellent condition. 2. Why is the real question. He's at the end of/leaving his prime and would only take away AB's from Perez, Rivera, and any other young infielders.
  3. I'm not sure why you're taking offense and having such an attitude about the topic. [sarcasm]You're probably Eddy trying to defend himself against those meanies on the internets.[/sarcasm]
  4. Well, wouldn't it just make sense that without any give-aways, they would draw more of a crowd on a Sunday as opposed to a weekday night? My point is that you should use the give-aways to draw people to games that are less in demand. The reason you give away things is to get more people to come to the game. For example, I would never schedule a give away for a Cubs game or Cards game (yet they do it all the time). Sunday games is it's own issues but to have giveaways when you play teams that travel really well seems stupid. I've been to a few bobble games against the Cardinals and the St. Louis fans couldn't care less about the bobbles. The ones I've been around either give them away or leave them there.
  5. Do you seriously think Stearns and company would not have data it up? Being an analytics guy is pretty much why he was hired to begin with. Stearns didn't start this. It was Runnin' Ron.
  6. Someone once told me it is less than $4 per bobble... Mike Rowe's show Somebody's Got To Do It did a segment on bobbleheads. They're incredibly cheap to get made, if you get them mass produced overseas. Otherwise I want to say it was at least $50 a piece made in the US.
  7. Not sure who the Indians have left to start. You're not supposed to have bullpen days in the playoffs. And definitely not two games in a row.
  8. Excellent post. I have no problem with 3rd outs being made at the plate as long as it is a close play. Putting the pressure on the defense to make a play is a good thing, and if the likelihood that they make a perfect play is less likely than our next batter driving in the guy from third with 2 outs, then the right decision was made. The thing is it's not the close plays that most of us are frustrated about. It's the easy out by a half mile plays that happen too often. What have many of us posters been complaining about the past few years? Stupid baserunning. What we fans see as stupid this organization sees as aggressive and Eddy is just following orders. It didn't change this year so I'm guessing Stearns is on board with it so it probably won't be changing any time soon. I hope they have actual data to back up the philosophy and not just the "make the defense make a play" line that's get thrown around all too often. These are major league defenders, they are going to make the play the vast majority of the time.
  9. This too. People are acting like he's been gifted a major league roster spot right away which hasn't happened. I wouldn't be surprised when/if he shows he doesn't flat out suck at AAA that he'll get a somewhat undeserved September callup. But there are plenty of former/current top prospects who get September callups despite having horrible numbers. Not to mention every team has nepotism draft picks every year where they pick the relative of a coach, scout, or player just because they are family.
  10. hmmm, that will be different, hopefully those who normally show up to games late or at the start of the game will get the message... It's a terrible decision by the Brewers. On every one of those days, a number of kids will be disappointed that someone sitting near them got something for free while they didn't. And they will have staffers who have to deliver the news to thousands of people that they have run out of the giveaways. Boo!! I'm pretty sure when they first started doing bobbleheads they were only for the first whatever number of people.
  11. Some people hate Tebow. Whatever, to each their own. But there is no way this is a PR stunt or money grab for the Mets. The Mets will make zero money off of him since, unless he's playing in MLB, their minor league affiliates reap the financial rewards. I suppose they'll sell a couple hundred more spring training tickets which will amount to about a .00000001% increase in revenue for 2017. The $100,000 seems like a lot but that doesn't seem to out of line to what's given to 16 year old international free agents who will most likely never play a game in the US. I'll agree the spot in the AFL seems odd but he's 29, theoretically just about to leave his prime baseball years. They need to see what he's got now. They can't afford to just let him play against a bunch of high schoolers in scrimmages this winter and then bring him along slowly like every other prospect. He's got 2 years realistically to get to the bigs. He's got to be fast tracked. And you can't tell me the pitchers the Brewers sent to the AFL this year really deserve to be there. Full disclosure, I do not love nor like Tim Tebow. He was a below average pro quarterback and a media created personality who has gotten way more attention than his athletic abilities deserve. I, however, cannot understand the flak he's getting for trying to play pro baseball.
  12. Sounds like they maybe have someone newer in a leadership position who is on a power trip. It really stinks for you. No one likes to be disregarded like that. Maybe it's time to find a different group to volunteer for. No one new there in a while. The head people are really overworked, which is there own fault because they don't like to delegate, and this time of year they generally are flying by the seat of their pants having this event and their regular job duties to do. Every year after the event they've personally thanked me because having me around takes a lot of responsibilities off their shoulders and allows them to relax and tend to only the really important things that come up. Not that I feel like I should get any special treatment nor anything is beneath me but the last couple years I feel like they've treated me as some "entry level" volunteer. While I was offering to help with more things and take on more responsibility I was asked to do things like empty the garbage cans and sweep. The POS for merchandise and donations is a pretty important place. I was one of the few volunteers who knew what they were doing an enjoyed it. Yet, last year they put people there who didn't know what they were doing and just weren't comfortable doing it. Eventually they just had me switch with them because it clearly wasn't working. Sorry for the rant but this was just something that I really love and I've felt less and less appreciated there. But I guess I'm kind of glad that they've pushed me away instead of me having to chose to leave them. I just wish I knew why.
  13. Being a 3rd base coach, yes, that's all they do. Being a coach in general, he has other responsibilities. He doesn't have to be canned to not coach 3rd anymore.
  14. I thought that was common knowledge since it was heavily referred to as "The Williams Shift" when it started becoming popular again. Shifting is not this new fangled idea that some people seem to make it out to be.
  15. There is an organization that I've been volunteering with for about 8 years. When I first started with them they were a tiny group with one employee but they've since grown substantially and have several employees. During the times I've been unemployed I've given quite a bit of my time to them because I really like doing it and I really believe in what they do. Even when I couldn't physically be there I would talk them up when I could and have had family members and friends contribute and also spread the word about them. They have a big annual fundraising event that I've been a part of and have played a pretty important role in and I've done this for every one they've had but the first one. Even though I was never in any sort of official leadership role for this event I was generally looked to for guidance, advise, and help because I'd been doing it longer than the actual employees and knew more about what was going on than they did in some cases. I loved doing it but I more loved getting to meet all the great people involved. I've made a lot of great friendships and this is the only time I ever get to see this people. So I've been spending the last month or two trying to let the group know I'm available and I want to help again this year. I stopped in to talk to them in person but I was told we just filled up our volunteer spots today and then I was literally brushed aside like I was a bum off the street. I look forward to this every year and considering the amount of my time I have given to them over the years, to basically be told we don't want you is a real slap in the face.
  16. Injuries are never good and he will lose a little development time but he could probably use a break. Would he have had any time off before spring training if healthy?
  17. I understand not wanting to pay a one trick pony in another lost season but this franchise has had such ineptitude at 1B for awhile now it's nice to see a guy who does anything well play there. Enough converted catchers and short stops.
  18. I made many posts during Marco's last year here showing his numbers were equal to or better than Gallardo's career at the time but for some reason many posters just latched on to the homeruns allowed and lack of velocity. With Toronto his FIP, K/9, and BB/9 are actually worse than with Milwaukee. His homeruns are down a little but his H/9 have dropped 1.5. Somehow all of that has translated to almost a full run drop in ERA in Toronto and a 30 improvement in ERA+. I'm sure team defense has helped those numbers but it seems to me he's a guy who was doing good things and improving but management just didn't want him as evidenced by his constant jerking from rotation to bullpen.
  19. Miller is going to be a super utility guy ala Zobrist so he's blocking no one in particular.
  20. Some risks are fine, but you keep playing at the casino you are eventually going to end up in the red. From a macro-level the Brewers are far better spending dollars on extensions than the FA market. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/teams-saved-500-million-by-locking-up-players-early/ In a perfect world sure and economically sure. However to win a World Series you need an ace. If we cannot develop such player you can't really invest in an extension can you? Either we trade for one or we sign one as a FA. Which is better? If the money is easily there I'd say signing one is better. You get more years than if we traded valuable prospects. Why do people keep saying this when it isn't true? How much have the Mets, Nats, and Dodgers won with stacked rotations the last few years? Where was the Royals ace the last two seasons? And of course the Cardinals a few years ago won with a disaster of a rotation. And no true ace will ever sign with Milwaukee because some other team can easily tack on a few more million or years than the Brewers can or should.
  21. It's totally irrelevant to the topic at hand but they said they started working on this last year.
  22. The whole "I want to play for a winner and Milwaukee's not a winner" thing he said twice certainly rubbed people the wrong way. Sure, he was being honest but that's not something you publicly say about your employer and teammates even if it's true and everyone knows it. Then there's the suitcase injury which he blamed on his wife but most felt was his own fault. I really don't feel one way or the other about it but I can get why others would look at him negatively.
  23. I see it said all the time that if we don't spend money now we can spend it when we're competitive again. I've never seen any evidence that money saved now is actually used later and I doubt that's the case. If the Brewers don't want to spend $8M on Carter next year I can vary well see another team wanting to. That's chump change for most teams, especially ones that are planning to compete in 2017.
  24. Mark Trumbo and Khris Davis are the best comparisons for trade value. Salary and service time are the obvious differences which makes Carter more similar to Trumbo who returned a 4A catcher. They key will be to find a team that has a need for him. Toronto comes to mind if they lose both Bautista and Encarnacion. Maybe even Boston if they can't sign either of those two.
  25. That and, despite the lowest payroll in baseball, were no where near the worst team.
