  1. Catchers are disposable. They have short shelf lives, they don't play every day, and even the best hitting ones aren't that good. When this team is competitive again they just need to go out and sign a Jose Molina type for two years.
  2. Scooter's first season numbers were way over his head. His 2nd season was still pretty good. For some reason he was just terrible at the start of last year which made his 2015 numbers look not so great. After he was called back up in June he put up a .287/.314/.419 line in 322 PA which is right in line with what he did in 2014 which was .289/.320/.434.
  3. Taking pitches does not equal plate discipline. Rickie Weeks took a lot of pitches. He was great at watching fastballs over the plate before swinging at the low and away breaking ball. Prince had amazing plate discipline. He wouldn't swing at pitches off the plate but would swing at the first pitch fastball if you gave it to him. Adam Dunn took a lot of pitches too. But he would only swing at a pitch if it was in his perfect spot. He's take strike 3 over the plate if it wasn't his pitch. I'm not sure what type of player Carter is since I've never seen him play.
  4. Honestly I don't understand how this is even an issue. Tanking would be if a team went out and filled a roster with Yuni and Macier Izturis types. When teams "tank" they acquire young players who were former prospects or blocked in other organizations. That's not trying to put a bad team on the field, that's putting together a team with potential upside. I can't recall a single MLB team tanking in my lifetime.
  5. Barring anymore trades, I think it's all but guaranteed that Reed won't make the opening day roster. Liriano is out of options so he needs to be on the roster. There just won't be enough AB's in Milwaukee to using Reed's service time worthwhile.
  6. Isn't Bird a 1B? Or did he play some LF? I would guess he's thinking that Davis would be the DH but they have Arod for that.
  7. I'm sorry, but this is the only response I have for the original poster. http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/001/582/picard-facepalm.jpg?1240934151
  8. I don't know maybe having 28XBH in 114games 6HRs 1SB and only 12BBs? By losing his shine I mean what's his upside? Platoon bat 8HRs 2SBs and adequate defense? Shine is over for me. He offers 0 Plus skills anywhere. Just Average or below average. Walsh only had 54XBH 13HRs 17SBs and oh over 100BBs last season batting from both sides of the plate. a near .400OB pct. You're proud of .339 against RHP. The franchise just has better options to play someone with at least a Plus somewhere vs avg/below avg. Walsh's worst OBP in any of the minor with 10games+ played in a season is .313. That would be about the avg. Gennett has given the Brewers the last 2 seasons combined as a platoon type of bat. Tell me what Shine he presents anymore? He's put up respectable numbers against major league pitchers for 3 years and Walsh has not had one day in the bigs. I looked it up for a post a few months ago and I can't remember the exact numbers but Scooters career OPS against RHP would have been top 5 OPS among all 2B the last two seasons. And when you face RHP 75% of the time there's great value in a player like that. Scooter has actually turned out to be exactly what he was projected to be: average defense, high batting average, adequate obp, but with more power than people thought. I was a Scooter-hater when he was coming up and expected him to be a massive failure but he's proven me wrong and I'm more than content to riding with him until he's a free agent.
  9. That would be me. Because I've been too lazy to take them down and keep forgetting to unplug the timer. We're the only house in the neighborhood with them still up. I'm pretty sure my neighbors took them down on December 26.
  10. Lucroy has twice publicly said he didn't want to be here. His agent or common sense should have told him that's not something you should say out loud well before Braun did.
  11. After Dave Stewart in Arizona, whoever is running the Rockies is the runner-up for GM with least clue about what they are doing so get them on the phone David.
  12. I hate being sick. The feeling like crap wasn't enough but I've spent the last 3 days laying around watching TV and I feel like a completely useless human.
  13. Just watched the whole season of Angie Tribeca. If you are a fan of the Zuckers form of comedy you will probably like this. Seems like 75% of the jokes and gags came straight out of Airplane or The Naked Gun.
  14. Seeing how disinterested Pay Murphy looked in the video my guess is the kid's dad knows some people who know some people. I doubt the Brewers are sending their major league coaching staff to scout who aren't even draft eligible yet especially when all he did was catch a bullpen. MY first thought was the pitcher was Cravy based off the picture but he looks too skinny. Could just be some minor league free agent or maybe Murphy was doing a clinic since he was nearby for On Deck.
  15. Yes, absolutely. He was a 4 WAR player at SS in 2013. Players have off-years. Past performance is not a fool-proof way of predicting future results, however yes absolutely I could see Segura being a 3+ WAR player at 2B. I really wanted the Brewers to keep Segura and convert him to 2B. I'm thrilled about Diaz though, and am very happy he is a Brewer. Its more likely that 2013 is the anomaly and not the norm. It's not even like he had a good 2013. He had an amazing first two months that propped up his whole season.
  16. Does a SP get moved now? Garza, Peralta, Davies, Jungmann, Nelson, Lopez, and now Anderson. Lopez probably starts in the minors but does it make sense to have Davies or Jungmann in Colorado Springs?
  17. This. No one is tanking. The Brewers traded a bunch of guys (Lind, Krod, Gomez, Segura, Aram, etc.) who were going to be free agents, quickly getting expensive, or not going to be around by the time the team was going to compete again. Holding on to them or spending money or average players to win 5 or 6 more games when you're going to be under .500 is just stupid and a waste of resources. If anything MLB needs a system like the NFL when it comes to free agency and draft picks instead of the stupid qualifying offer system that just hurts the players. And stop giving teams like the Cardinals "competitive balance" draft picks.
  18. Glad to see Segura gone. He's one of my least favorite Brewers ever. Anderson could wind up being a steal. He's put up some decent numbers and can either be a rotation contributor or a trade piece. Dave Stewart continues to do dumb things in Arizona. I'm not sure what Segura provides for them and they're paying all of Hill's salary to get him? I hate Tony La Russa as much as the next Brewer fan but does he have any say in the things that go on there? The moves Stewart has made don't seem like the kind moves the Cardinals or A's did to build their teams.
  19. I agree with everything you've said there. However, where are the future infielders? There's Arcia who probably comes up at some point this year and then no one until you get to A ball and below. Rivera looks like a utility guy at best and of all the pickups this offseason Cecchini is the only one who could probably still be around by the time this team is competitive again. Maybe Coulter goes to 1B but you're still missing half an infield.
  20. I would like to believe the post above somehow contributed to that decision. It didn't, but maybe, just maybe? Every team invites basically every catcher in their organization because they need someone to catch all those pitchers the first 3 days.
  21. The things I've read have put him as a corner OF that can play CF, doesn't sound like a great defensive CF.
  22. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/jeff-gordon/gordo-some-mlb-teams-tanking-now-for-future-returns/article_795cd5e3-4c4a-5803-836c-79c0fdc4c8c0.html St. Louis newspaper weighing in that lack of ambition is the Brewer's problem and it is making baseball less enjoyable for them. No mention that the Cardinals try to win every season because the talent the organization has accumulated projects to win between 85-100 games. Whoever that writer is can go eat a bag of balls...baseballs.
  23. I loved the jerseys they've worn the last few years in Spring Training and wish those would have made it the regular season.
  24. There is lots of room for time elimination during pitching changes. Pitchers need two pitches tops on the game mound to be ready. Or since we're already using clocks the reliever has 60 seconds from when they leave the bullpen to the first live pitch they throw and they can do whatever they need to do to get ready.
