  1. That looks beyond terrible.
  2. I've found that even if they say they will call you it's about 50/50 that they will. So good luck with that.
  3. It's relevant because Hamilton agreed to a reduced contract when he was traded. The only reason the player's union allowed it was because he was going to be taking home the same amount of money as he was in LA but Texas would be paying him less because of the difference in state income tax. I would assume trading him again would bring up the same issue.
  4. Umphry, thanks for taking the time to explain things. It helps understand the situation better. Good info but does anyone know how accurate they have been? I get the luck factor can create outliers but if it is worth anything, even as a baseline, it has to get us in the ball park for the average player. (Pun intended) How well has it predicted things in the past? I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone go back after the season and see how accurate these predictions are? That seems like quite a task especially if you're going to take into consideration things like injuries.
  5. What teams have fully commit to a gut and rebuild recently? The Pirates, Cubs, and Astros, and Royals to a lesser extent. All four teams made the playoffs last year and the Royals and Pirates have made it multiple times. Will it work for the Brewers? I think so but there's no guarantee. However, anyone who thinks it isn't a good idea clearly is not paying attention to how successful baseball organizations are built. The fact that some seem to favor the same model that has kept the Brewers and teams like the Rockies, DBacks, Mariners, Indians, and Reds in a constant state of mediocrity for a decade boggles my mind.
  6. You bring up a good point about taxes. Hamilton's contract was reworked for the trade so that he would make the same amount after taxes in Texas as he did in LA but it would cost the team less. That would no doubt be a sticking point for any team that trades for him.
  7. I would expect Miller Park would become more multi purchase if the Brewers leave. They've concerts, soccer, and bowling there and I'm sure they could make the modifications for football easily if they didn't have baseball to worry about. Throw in some hockey games, basketball games, monster trucks, and conventions and I think you can make Miller Park profitable without a baseball team.
  8. For some reason pitchers just don't wear single digit numbers. I'm sure there might be one or two out there now but the last one I remember was Kyle Drabek wore #4 for Toronto. The reason I wore #6 every chance I got was because I saw Rob Bell pitching for the Rangers with #6 and I thought it looked good on a pitcher.
  9. I was thinking that Hamilton could be included in a deal to get better prospects back but Texas really isn't paying him all that much. Texas can play him at DH and OF and get some sort of a platoon going. On top of his age he really has no position to play in Milwaukee. Even if Davis is traded it wouldn't make any sense to platoon Hamilton with Braun or Santana on the corners. He's also never played an inning of 1B in the majors or minors and platooning him with Carter wouldn't make sense since Josh would get most of the AB's since he's left handed over the younger guy we want to flip or keep for awhile. The only positions that would really make sense for us to take on a bloated contract would be SS or C, especially if we trade Lucroy.
  10. Hard liquor. A virus is a living organism, and alcohol can kill living organisms, so if a viral organism absorbs a molecule of alcohol the viral organism will die. It's why the "Irish cure for a cold" (whiskey) really works. Get your BAC up high enough (but not too high) so that the alcohol in your blood steam will kill the viral organisms - try three or four shots an hour (depending on size/body weight) for 2-3 hours (or until you see two bottles) then go to bed. Do that a couple of times and you'll shorten the course of the infection. Vodka with an orange juice chase (get some vitamin C) should be tolerable. I'm sure this is partially tongue in cheek but since I don't drink I'm guessing I'd be black out drunk after one shot.
  11. I don't know his options situation but he has to be a lock. He's 28 and has proven himself to be a starter in the bigs. Sending him down does nothing for him and would probably just cause more trouble than it's worth. I'll say they got a real situation on their hands with the back of the rotation. Do you send your #6 starter to Colorado Springs or keep him in the bullpen? I think I would keep Jungmann in Milwaukee and use him in the bullpen until they need a 5th starter and send Davies to AAA.
  12. Those don't look as bad as I would have thought. Baseball is way too traditional to do anything like that. Remember all the flack for the "Turn Ahead The Clock" uni's? A team in the KBO or NPB wore animal print uniforms last year.
  13. Went to the doctor this morning. I've got an upper respiratory viral infection. He said right now the only thing I can do is let it runs it's course. Yay! My mom, who's a nurse, told me that it's going around and it's taking people 2 to 3 weeks to get over it. Double yay! I've only got a week or two before I get better.
  14. I don't know many people who have HD antennas but those I do know haven't had any luck consistently getting channels. When my mom first got one she was able to get Milwaukee and Green Bay channels. She's ditched it because now she can't get any. When my wife and I bought our house we tried an HD antenna she had while we waited for our cable to be installed. Our TV alone picked up more channels than when we had the antenna hooked up.
  15. I will be hitting one week of sickness tomorrow. I can no longer sleep at night because my nose is so blocked up I can't breathe and when I blow it out it's now solid chunks of yellow- green, bloody grossness. I know exactly what you are talking about. This is an infection of some type, and a valid reason to get antibiotics. (Antibiotics do nothing for a "cold" and should never be taken for a "cold", but this isn't a cold.) This morning I decided that I would go to the doctor tomorrow if I didn't feel better. Well, I've felt better all day today but I now have a sore throat which hadn't been an issue at all before. Also picked up a Neti Pot and used it a couple times. We'll see if that makes a difference.
  16. Glad to hear that others are concerned about team management's aim at purposeful losing to gain an advantage. I'm all for rebuilding and getting a strong group of minor leaguers to come up together at the same time, and I guess I don't blame the Astros and Cubs (now Brewers, possibly) for the route they took to get back to glory. Yet, something is wrong with the system when teams (not players/managers, who are working their butts off to get paid, stay in the bigs) are positioning themselves to lose enough/more games to gain an advantage with high draft picks and a larger pool of money to sign picks. People, it's not about making a bad major league team to get higher draft picks. It's about using your resources to get lots of young, cheap, controllable talent. If Melvin and Stearns wouldn't have made the trades they've made, the major league team would still be mediocre and the minor league system would still be crap. Relying on the draft alone to build your team just doesn't work.
  17. In a vacuum I would agree that Lucroy doesn't get Giolito. However every free agent the Nats went after this offseason turned them down. They've had very talented teams the last few years and really have nothing to show for it. I could see them getting desperate especially when their only competition in the division is the Mets who may have great pitching but are lacking offense.
  18. Santana, Houser, Phillips, and Davies are just as likely to be flops as anyone else. Not sure I get that? Those are advanced prospects with tools that are now more easily and accurately projectable. On a purely statistical basis, it is far more likely that Davies has already pitched more MLB innings that any of the 3 teens in the Seattle trade. If a guy doesn't become an average major league player than he's flopped. None of the guys that Doug got last year and David has gotten this offseason are average major league players yet.
  19. Santana, Houser, Phillips, and Davies are just as likely to be flops as anyone else.
  20. I used to have one and used it often but I stopped because I didn't think it was doing anything. A lot of stuff I've read has recommended that. Maybe I'll see if my wife can grab one on her way home.
  21. That seems like a strange reason to decide on a player. In baseball, yes, but the NBA and NFL make trades that are conditional on how one of the teams performs all the time.
  22. I am in no way saying he isn't "mentally tough", I'm saying he's a bad hitter. And it doesn't matter why he's a bad hitter. Be it because of his child, or Braun's bat, or feeling slighted by the offer, or because he's just a really bad hitter, it doesn't matter because his results were terrible and results are all that matters.
  23. No. He's acquired plenty of prospects in Flores, the kids from Seattle, Supak, Liriano, Diaz, and Cecchini in addition to young controllable guys like Villar, Nieuwenhuis, Pinto, Carter, and Anderson. The only move he made that I would categorize as simply "activity" would be the Krod trade.
  24. I will be hitting one week of sickness tomorrow. I can no longer sleep at night because my nose is so blocked up I can't breathe and when I blow it out it's now solid chunks of yellow- green, bloody grossness.
  25. Sounds like a laundry list of excuses for underperforming for 2.5 years. Sad about his child but the rest of it, well they are excuses. Perform and you'd get your payday. All I could think is wow if you need all this little excuses for why someone was completely awful for 2.5 years they will never turn it around. I hope no Arizona fans read that and get false hope. Maybe he should just retire and focus on life. Sounds like he can't handle squat the way Reonicke talks. Ron is kind of a clueless idiot so I don't put any stock into what he has to say. The whole article to me felt like Ken was trying to blame the Brewers for low-balling Jean and ruining his career. Segura is what he is and, outside of 2 months of his major league career, the numbers back it up.
