  1. Re-reading what was wrote it seems more like Boras knows that Doug doesn't have interest but he can play Mark into giving him what he wants so he goes directly to the top instead of dealing with the GM.
  2. Sounds more like Doug is just saying non-sense to avoid saying anything at all.
  3. Both, but mainly because they were drafted high. Going back to the original post 60% of those guys aren't going to amount to much of anything. Top prospects lists are just regurgitation of other lists: draft prospect lists. That's not a dig on either list, it just shows how much unpredictability there is between college/high school/minors and the majors.
  4. I'm pretty sure I read that they will both be back at some point.
  5. I understand it's TV but I just can't buy the fact that Ben can just appoint any random person to be Mayor. Even just for a few months.
  6. Baseball is also the only sport where coaches can't verbally ride an official the whole game. Basketball and football are notorious for it. If managers interacted with umpires the way most NFL coaches do with referees there would be ejections every game. Most wouldn't make it to the 3rd inning.
  7. the penalty is going to be with fines, not balls/strikes, and the fines will be minimal. According to the rule book, it's a strike if the batter is not in the box.
  8. Well Baseball America just provided this information with their most recent top 100 list. Top 100: By the Numbers: By Draft Round 48 First 12 Supplemental first 8 Second 2 Third, Sixth 1 Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, 11th, 16th, 48th By Source 47 High school draft pick 30 College draft pick 22 International free agent 1 Junior college draft pick That comes close to my guess. 68% are 1st or 2nd round picks and 95% of the drafted players on the list are 1st or 2nd round picks. I know not every international free agent signing is a big deal but most of them are and 22 of those guys are international signing, which would come up to 90%.
  9. I don't think any team would guarantee him a roster spot but he could very well get a major league contract and 40 man spot similar to what a few top draft picks the last decade or so.
  10. How many on the Top 100 lists are 1st or 2nd round draft picks or international free agents that signed big bonuses? I would guess 80%+. That's really how those lists are made, and then sprinkled in with some other guys.
  11. Does anyone have a copy of Windows XP Home direct from Microsoft (not OEM) that they are looking to get rid of? I'm willing to pay for shipping plus a little extra. PM if you are interested.
  12. Anyone know of a good, user friendly place to host a baseball team website? Right now I'm updating everything in HTML, which works fine for me as they are really simple edits and I know enough about what I'm doing. However, I'll be looking to turn my duties over to someone else in the near future and would like to get everything set up in a CMS that will make it easy for them. I know about places like eteamz and leaguelineup but I'm not a fan of those. Anyone know of any other places?
  13. Most veterans are traded for with the idea that the acquiring team wants to win now. This season or next. I think it's common and accepted knowledge that very few veterans maintain a high level of play as they age but teams are willing to risk the uncertain future value of a prospect for the current certain value of a veteran. I think based off of that study, that is a good bet to make.
  14. Isn't (or wasn't) there a bar that is all Leinenkugel's in the OF?
  15. I can't see anyone offering him that much as this point unless the Dodgers lose Jansen for longer than the 8-12 weeks that's expected. Teams just don't have that much room in their budgets right now.
  16. Is there anything more themed about these nights other than the name and a giveaway?
  17. Is Furcal even healthy? He hasn't been not injured since the middle of 2012.
  18. More players to pay is more like it. Imagine the Brewers have to pay 3 more Major League players. They're not getting more money to spend but they have more players they need to pay. And that's less money for them to sign free agents or more importantly lock up young guys. The superstars will still get paid their $150 or $200 million deals, but everyone else is going to take a little bit of a hit. I dont think paying 3 more players is going to break any teams bank, especially a team in the smallest market already with 100 million on payroll. 3 more players for the brewers could all be league minimum, which is $1.5 million total. not really breaking the bank by any means Not break the bank but $1.5M is enough to keep them from signing an important bench or bullpen player. My point was that it's going to decrease salaries across the board and the players union wouldn't like that. The Brewers only have say $100M to spend. With a 25 man roster, that's $4M per player. With a 28 man roster, that's $3.5M-ish per player. Momma bird only has one beak and can only fit so many worms in it. She can easily keep 3 baby birds full and happy. Add in a 4th baby bird and those tummies aren't as full.
  19. More players to pay is more like it. Imagine the Brewers have to pay 3 more Major League players. They're not getting more money to spend but they have more players they need to pay. 20. Yes and no. Those extra players probably wouldn't be anything more than AAA filler but it would allow big bat/no glove players the opportunity to get a pinch hit late in the game but not play the field and no really hurt the teams bench.
  21. I too would have done this deal if he was willing to play OF. Probably would have given him a mil or more too to make it happen. Dude OPS'd .865 against lefties last year and had a .357 OBP overall. Scooter will never come close to touching either of those number.
  22. Krod (i.e. Boras) will wait till 2 weeks before opening day to sign somewhere. He'll only need 2 or 3 appearances to be ready for the season and by that point injuries will have taken a closer or two down.
  23. Good point. And with Questech or whatever system they use now veteran pitchers aren't getting extra inches on the corner which is actually making the zone smaller, but yet offense is still going down.
  24. Didn't we just raise the top of the strike zone like about 8 years ago? I'm all for taking pitches and working the count but sometimes guys just need to swing the bat. When you get to 2 strikes you need to protect the plate. Hitters today seem like they're content to go down looking and chalk it up to "looking for something else." Just swing the darn bat.
  25. Isn't this the last year of his contract? If the Brewers are competing for a playoff spot at the end of September I think he comes back. I don't know what it will take for him to be fired in the middle of the season other than a total collapse.
