  1. In that particular game the catchers were having trouble all day long with this. Rawlings, the presenting sponsor for the event, had given all of the players brand new Rawlings gloves. Certainly a nice gesture (and to make sure their competitors equipment wasn't represented on the field), but watching those kids try to catch advanced pitches with brand new catchers gloves was a tough sight at times. That makes sense because I could not believe how terrible that catcher was. I hope none of those kids' stock dropped after that boondoggle.
  2. I don't even know what this means. Was it Josh Roenicke?
  3. Doug was trolling Amaro. That is the only logical explanation.
  4. Wasn't Rickie a CF in college? I don't know how he'll do in the OF but I can't see him finding much playing time at any position in Seattle. It helps that Cano is lefty hitter so he might get 4 or 5 starts at 2B against tough lefties. They just signed Nelson Cruz to be their DH and they have two other players in Logan Morrison and Jesus Montero who are pretty much stuck at DH and 1B. Even their OF is pretty well set. Barring injury or trade I just can't see Rickie getting that many PA's in Seattle. I can't believe he didn't get any offers from teams that would have had better situations for him.
  5. I'll have to ask my Physical Therapist wife about that. She's my go to for sports injury information. BHS is correct, based on everything I've ever read about "strain" After talking to my wife at lunch, she feels he should be healthy by opening day. Whether or not he's ready to play is another question.
  6. According to rotoworld: Partially torn hamstring tendon does not sound like a "mild strain" to me. This goes back to the Aaron Rodgers thing. "Strain" = "partially torn" medically. I'll have to ask my Physical Therapist wife about that. She's my go to for sports injury information.
  7. I've seen plenty of Brewer-favored trade proposals like that made here too. Homers gonna home.
  8. According to rotoworld: Partially torn hamstring tendon does not sound like a "mild strain" to me.
  9. Not MLB but still baseball related.
  10. The time table for hamstring injuries is from whenever it happens till whenever the season is over. I don't think playing first base will make it any better either as you have to sprint to cover the bag on almost every ball in play.
  11. They already have Willis but I would have no problem with Zito on a minor league deal.
  12. Broxton also spent 1 full and 2 partial seasons as Chapman's setup guy and only re-signed in Cincy because Chapman was going to be made a starter. He should probably have another 50-60 career saves. I also count them as having an equal 4 seasons as a designated closer. I would hope that Broxton's 20+ point advantage in ERA+ and 2 more K/9 mean more than 15 measly saves.
  13. Absolutely -- great point. Additionally, if anyone is of the belief that Broxton's not our best RP, you also aren't then burning your best reliever in the Closer™ role. I'm personally not sure whether or not I think Broxton's our best reliever. I don't think there's anyone in the bullpen right now that stands out as "the best". Broxton has the career track record to be the best, but you've also got guys who've put up some really good partial seasons in Smith, Thornburg, and Jeffress. Some might say it's Henderson but I don't trust guys who were career minor leaguers and then suddenly put up a great season (not to say anything about his injury). We've just been burned by those kinds of guys way too many times. If tomorrow was opening day I don't see any way that Ron doesn't use Broxton as the closer just because he's done it for so many years before, regardless of the health of Henderson.
  14. Why was some male Cardinals fan at a bachelorette party to begin with? Was he supposed to be "the entertainment?" If he was a stripper I would have loved the story even more. No, he was in town for business or something and they ran into him at a bar. The bride to be also slapped him.
  15. From a financial stand point it would be smart to keep Jeffress and Thornburg out of the closer spot. Even partial seasons of either of those guys as a closer is going to make them much more expensive in arbitration. As it stands right now put Broxton in the 9th.
  16. Gyorko did put up a 113 OPS+ in 125 games in his first year in the bigs. Ya, he bombed last year but he was hurt for a good chunk of it.
  17. The Giants are like the Cardinals in that they are always a competitive team on the field no matter how bad they look on paper. The Dodgers moved some players but they probably came about even talent wise. The Padres infield is pretty terrible and they acquired some question mark hitters in Kemp and Meyers. Winning the division isn't out of the question for them but I would still put my money on the Dodgers. As long as Bumgarner wasn't destroyed by the playoff run last year the Giants should be in it too.
  18. The Padres have added a lot of talent but aren't they still just the 3rd best team in that division?
  19. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the lots are leased to a company that runs them and sets the prices, not the Brewers, so the Brewers have pretty much no control over how much parking costs.
  20. My was wife at a bachelorette party last night and apparently slapped a guy just because he was a Cardinals fan.
  21. With all signs pointing to Shields signing with San Diego, I'm guessing Melvin is waiting until they are officially out on Moncada before finalizing anything for Papelbon.
  22. It's looking more and more like San Diego.
  23. The reason he hasn't signed is because he is a very sought after FA. I don't think he'll be ready till after ST so he's just waiting to see which team will give him the best chance to pitch in a rotation this year. Barring an injury, that's not Milwaukee.
  24. Any talk of Zimmerman signing in Milwaukee needs to stop. He's not going to give a "home town" discount in free agency. Any offer the Brewers make, no matter how "fair" it may be, will just be topped by the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, or Red Sox.
  25. Pure posturing...Amaro is a terrible GM and he's being outplayed in the media by Melvin. Why keep an expensive closer for what is going to be a terrible team? Doesn't mean he can't be traded during spring training. I posted before that they are going to have to trade him now. Once he gets to Florida and reporters shove microphones in his face every day he's going to say something that is going to rub management the wrong way and force them to just give him away.
