  1. Once Molina and Carpenter are gone I could respect the Cards. Provided the bean ball crap stops. "As a player, I just think he doesn't know [about how to act]," Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran said. "That's what I think. He really doesn't know. He must think that he's still playing somewhere else. "He has a lot of passion," Beltran said. "No doubt about that. Great ability. Great talent. I think, with time, he'll learn that you've got to act with a little bit more calm. "So you know, he's going to learn. It's going to take him time, but he's going to learn. When you try to do those things sometimes, you know, you get that attention. And you don't want to wake up nobody. I always thought if you hit a home run off a pitcher, you've got to make him believe he made a mistake. You don't wake him up. Or next time, the pitcher's going to be more focused with you and he's going to try harder to get you out. "So he will learn," Beltran concluded. "I don't think he's a bad kid. I just think he doesn't know right now." Nevermind. It seems to be an organizational thing. I'm guessing the Beltran quote is about Puig. Did he do something specific to garner the comment or is it just because he actually plays hard and looks like he's enjoying himself?
  2. Yes. The Marlins are stacked with young talent. After next season he will probably open up his wallet and buy a bunch of free agents and make a post season run like he's done before. I don't get all the Loria hate. Since he's been an owner he's won 2 world series. How many other owners can say that?
  3. He was safe Yadier. Maybe if you spit on the umpire he might change the call.
  4. I don't know if I would say worst. Annoying, righteous hypocrite, yes.
  5. Depends what he tells his kids. Beat me to it. I came here specifically to post "How will he explain this his son?"
  6. And the teams that have been eliminated? I don't have the numbers in front of me but I'm pretty sure Tampa Bay is bottom third. Pittsburgh and Oakland probably are too and Atlanta has to be in the middle.
  7. I'm beginning to find it a little annoying how everyone is a dugout wears hoodies during the playoffs, especially coaches. I understand they are chilly but is it that hard to wear a pullover or team jacket instead? It especially bothers me when a coach goes to the mound wearing a hoodie. Or why does Joe Maddon wear one in a dome in Florida? I wonder if it's an MLB directive so that it appears like the players are also battling the elements and it looks more like football.
  8. I've got to say that I really miss the show. Not so much for entertainment though. The show started when I was in high school. I watched it when I was in college. It was that show that no matter what age I was I could talk about it with people my age and also those younger and older than me. I got together with friends to watch it. It was part of my Thursday night routine. It was my pregame for the weekend. It's not that I dwell on this or anything but I thought of it while I was watching Parks and Rec on Hulu because I don't even watch TV on Thursdays anymore. It's just weird.
  9. $$$ Everyone knows and understands that.
  10. This is where I see huge problems. Managers are only given a limited amount of reviews and staying on the bag for a double play probably only happens on maybe 75% of turns, but they get the call 99% of the time. I'm wondering if it will be a gentleman's agreement between managers not to challenge that. Of course someone will challenge the play in a very important situation and feelings will be hurt and the like. I think MLB is about to open a whole box of problems it doesn't want to deal with. I can't wait to see a baserunner slide into second and get called out and immediately start making the "pulling from his pants" motion because the fielder missed the bag.
  11. They should get more than they got for Shields. Any deal has to start with a team's top two prospects, and those two have to be top 100 guys. So no to any offer the Brewers could make. I could see the Rangers (Profar and Perez), DBacks (Skaggs or Bradley and Gregorious), or Cardinals (some combination of Wacha, Martinez, and Rosenthal) making a run. Maybe Miami surprising everyone and dealing some of their dearth of prospects.
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/york-yankees-catcher-francisco-cervelli-comes-clean-few-161400506--mlb.html Based on the lack of media outrage no one seems to care. Apparently his PED use isn't tainting the record book and corrupting impressionable youth.
  13. Imagine if doing so got an entire coaching staff suspended for a year Imagine that it's not happening anymore.
  14. I think this is more of a shot at Gibson and the coaching staff than any real feelins he has on the matter.
  15. That's what we all said about Yuni.
  16. Boy, that's a tough call. Based on the trajectory of the ball it's probably a home run, interference or not. However, it also looks like it's going right for Reddick's glove. It's probably ruled the same way as if he was reaching into the crowd to catch a foul ball - once it's out of play it's anyone's ball.
  17. I prefer his approach rather than the Ken Macha write a letter to the commissioner approach. Like it or not this is how Major League baseball works. Until serious fines or suspensions are handed down this is how it's done. We like to rag on TLR and the Cardinals for their antics but you know what? They work and rarely is any kind of discernible punishment given.
  18. Where and from who? He took a terrible organization with many overpaid, aging, useless veterans and got rid of them and added younger, cheaper, better players. It's only been two years. What were people expecting?
  19. how? I think he's referring to when the Pirates kept throwing at Braun after he hit the grand slam against them in 2008.
  20. That would have been horribly unfair to the Rays. They play Sunday in Toronto, Monday tiebreaker in Texas, and then you want them to play Tuesday in Cleveland and Wednesday in Boston??? So 4 cities in 4 days? Umm, no. Then win your division. The whole point of this new wildcard format is to make winning the division more important.
  21. If Pujols was found to be juicing you can be damn sure the media will go crazy like the Braun and Arod treatment. Yeah, I can't imagine why it wouldn't be at least as big, if not a bigger story than Braun and Arod. The media loves to bag on ARod and Braun was public enemy number one in the biogenisis "news." Every of the stories was RODRIGUEZ AND BRAUN and a bunch of other guys TO BE SUSPENDED!!! I understand they were the big names involved but there were a bunch of all stars too that you never heard a peep about. Now we have Mr. Baseball Jesus Albert Pujols possibly connected to PED's. I can't believe that the "media" will pound him like they did Braun and Arod. He was a Cardinal. He did it the right way. He adopted his wife's disabled son. I just can't see him being treated as poorly as everyone else was.
  22. I really hate the way the playoffs are scheduled. Everyone should be on the same schedule so no one gets an advantage. Or at least in the same league. It should be: Mon: tie breaker games Tue: both Wild Card games Wed: all game 1's or all NL or all AL game 1's
