  1. Marcum has done really well in his 9 or whatever months here, except for about 6 weeks. Yes those 6 weeks were the most crucial but we most likely don't make the playoffs without him. I don't want to resign him for 4 or whatever years but I wouldn't mind having him again for next year. I'd rather keep him and offer him the new arby. If he takes it, we have a good pitcher for another year. If he doesn't, we get more high draft picks. I think keeping him for another year/the draft picks are worth more than anything he would bring back for a half season. I'm in no way in the Marcum sucks camp. I think he' pretty good actually. I just feel he won't be worth whatever long term contract he could potentially sign and he has enough value to trade and get something really good in return.
  2. Whether selling or buying I would trade Marcum. Trade him for prospects or trade him for help this year. I would really prefer not to resign him.
  3. I believe the Brewers do not get much, if anything, from parking or concessions. I think most of that money goes to the companies that run them. I also believe that ticket sales make up a very small portion of an organization's income. I know I've seen links posted here before with breakdowns about where team's make money from but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of it comes from the TV contract.
  4. I didn't know Dusty Baker posted here.
  5. No. He is made of glass.
  6. I will never forgive Vladmir for costing Ben Sheets a perfect game the way he did. Sure he probably wouldn't have been credited with a perfect game anyway since it went into extras but still, you don't swing at a ball the hits the ground and get a hit out of it.
  7. Depends. Some managers want to control everything, including pitches.
  8. Don't we need someone to pick up for Aramis being injured/old? I don't think Pastornicky is worth trading anything for.
  9. Those guys are before my time and I'm just curious if they would pitch on consecutive days or only 2 or 3 times a week? And on the days they didn't pitch how was the bullpen used? Was there a backup closer or something like that?
  10. I know nothing about any of these guys they drafted are but the player comp for that last pick was Jeff Franceur. And the next guy picked was a 3rd baseman that the one guy said had the most power of anyone in the draft. To my less than informed self seems incredibly stupid.
  11. That he's basically a DH that's been forced to play defense in the NL and his low batting average and high strikeout totals will keep the voters for voting for him. He's a borderline Hall of Famer for me personally.
  12. He is honest to god going to have a heart attack in the booth before he retires. His last moments on Earth are going to be ripping Joe West and he's just going to keel over. While it's fun to laugh at the intensity of his outburst (and others he's had), I do worry about a man his age getting that upset. It doesn't seem to me to be healthy physically nor is it a sign that he's quite in control. Yes it's irritating when umpires don't consistently apply the same rules regarding throwing at hitters, but geesh, it's not something all that unusual nor worthy of that intensity of reaction. There is no such thing as an over reaction to anything Joe West does. He's a disgrace to all pro sports officials.
  13. Except for all the spit-ballers and illegal drug users that are/will be in there. And I'm not sure exactly what consequences Rose is suffering. Yes, he's not enshrined in the Hall of Fame but he's still making millions of dollars off of his baseball career.
  14. He's banned from MLB, not the game.
  15. I think you are. I thought the whole season was great. The pillow fight episode was one of the best episodes of anything I've ever seen. When they were trying to convince the group that they were all just patients in a mental hospital I didn't like it but I thought it was genius. Unfortunately, it looks like it's about to get Arrested Development-ed by NBC with the move to Friday night.
  16. I don't know enough of Profar to make an comment on him but the Rangers have Andrus at SS and signed him through 2014. Andrus' defense is great but his offensive won't play anywhere else but short or second and they have a guy named Ian Kinsler there who's only 29 and signed through 2018. Maybe they could move Kinsler to 3rd and Andrus to second or something like that but the point I'm trying to make is they are going to have to make some decisions. Seems somewhat similar to a few years ago with Hardy and Escobar.
  17. He won't get in unless he gets 500 homeruns. Even if he does I wouldn't consider him hall of fame worthy. He's really, really good but not hall of fame caliber in my opinion.
  18. I still haven't made a decision yet. I just don't have the time. I found a 2009 Toyota RAV4 at a good price. Anyone have experience with them? My biggest concern is that I've read that they get way under the advertised mpg.
  19. I believe the accusation was that they had colluded to throw 1 game in order to have Cobb's team get in 3rd place in the final standings and thus collect money for a 3rd place finish instead of 4th Cobb and Speaker were forced to resign as managers by the American League but then were later reinstated shortly after that when Commisioner Landis found them not guilty. As far as I know, the accusation was never about either of them fixing games for gamblers' money or fixing games in collusion with known criminals or gamblers I don't see the difference. Throwing a game is throwing a game. And if that's why baseball treats gambling as such a huge offense Cobb and Speaker should have suffered the same fate as Rose if they were guilty.
  20. Since the player would be property of the team asking him to resign with them I don't think it could be illegal. Unethical maybe but probably not. Wasn't Herald Baines traded a couple of times only to resign with the team that traded him in the offseason?
  21. You don't care that he bet on baseball, perfectly valid opinion. Do you have limits? For example, would you care if he bet on the Reds to lose, either as a player or manager? Just curious if your opinion is an absolute, or if you have limits on what you would allow as far as gambling is concerned. Nope. Don't care who he bet on. Baseball is based on stats and his are that of one of, if not the, greatest players of all time.
  22. Yes, he should be in. I don't care that he bet on baseball. The games he played happened and his stats count. Same for steroid guys, same for everyone who corked a bat, threw a spit ball, doctored a ball, etc.
  23. The Giants won 2 of 3 and the Crew was trying to give them a third. Why would you complain about anything?
