  1. The Brewers need to hire Andrew Freidman just so they can put together a cheap and effective bullpen. That guy's a genius (or incredibly lucky).
  2. His curveball looked fine and while his changeup didn't look like it had a lot of movement, the change of speed was effective. The thing that concerned me the most was his lack of control. Like Bill said after giving up those 3 homeruns he was able to keep the ball down early in the game but not in the end. Even before that he was erratic with his curve and changeup and the fastball control wasn't great either. Control is usually the last thing a pitcher figures out so I think he should be fine in a season or two.
  3. I think we should all be more excited about Thornburg's .816 OPS (he's .278/316/.500 this year in AA). Maybe he's the spark this offense needs to get going.
  4. I just read an interesting article about the decline of newspapers the other day. The author was stating that their decline is not because of technology or less interest in reading but because newspapers have decided to deal with declining revenue not by making their product better but worse. Instead of adding content to the paper to increase interest they've chosen to cut staff and local coverage and content to save money and in it's place put advertising or nothing.
  5. "Bye gawd! It's Ben Sheets! Ben Sheets! Ben Sheets! Business is about to pick up!"
  6. I wonder if the Angels would be more inclined to Morales since he's paid more and has less years of team control? Between Trumbo, Pujols, and Morales (and I think I've heard they've got a pretty good first base prospect) they don't have enough positions for them all, despite their best efforts to pretend Trumbo is an outfielder.
  7. Tagging a runner before he gets to first is a force out. I think tagging any runner who is forced to advance is considered a force out.
  8. And to think the Brewers gave up on him a few years ago.
  9. Since this seems like bar league softball both teams might have made some sort of agreement but the correct call would be once the batter is tagged out or put out the inning is over and neither run would score because of the force out.
  10. They didn't pull out all the stops, just most of them. If they REALLY pulled out all the stops and signed Sabathia, and still did the Greinke deal THAT would have been pulling out all the stops. And they very likely would have won it all last year. It also wouldn't have crushed them long term financially. Greinke certainly wouldn't be re-signed next year, but we would still have CC and Yo. CC was NEVER going to happen. Pulling out all the stops last year would have meant breaking the bank or what was left of the farm system for a short stop.
  11. Most people aren't saying we are losing because of him. True, most aren't- but I am. Go back to yesterday's game. Rolling 4-1 with 2 outs in the 7th. Single to CF, easily scroing the runner from 2nd. But Morgan attempts to throw the guy out at home, so runner ends up on 2nd. Next batter hits it in the hole at SS. Ransom has no play at 1B, but would have had a relatively easy force at 2nd to end the inning. Brewers still up 4-2. But wait, there was no force because of Morgan's hair-brained throw the abtter before. So the Twins tie it 4-4, go on to win in extras. What does any of this have to do with RR you may ask? Well, nothing if this was an isolated incident. But it's not, of course. Fundamentals on this team have been horrible all year- last year too. It's just that last year they have enough talent to overcome all the mental mistakes. This year they don't. One of the few things a manager has control over is getting his team to play sound baseball. RR is failing in that regard. I can only fault Ron for two things in yesterday's loss. 1. Sticking with Greinke to give up the tying runs, but honestly the bullpen stinks and whoever was brought in would probably have done the same thing. 2. Going with Perez instead of Para. Maybe Para was unavailable and it's not like Perez stunk it up but bringing a guy in who hasn't pitched in over a week with the winning run on third seemed pretty dumb to me.
  12. Does Estrada have any trade value once he proves he's healthy?
  13. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.
  14. I don't know why Aoki should be traded. He may not be young but he's very affordable.
  15. I doubt it since they already demoted Pastornicky for Simmons.
  16. No. Youk can't play defense anymore and can only "play" first base when healthy. Weeks is younger, more athletic, and still in the prime of his career.
  17. Yes. Post season numbers are nearly irrelevant when valuing a player.
  18. I know Lawrie was traded before Greinke but I would guess they would have accepted Lawrie and we might have gotten to keep one of those players that we traded as well.
  19. The team sucks, and it's not Ron's fault that it sucks, but he is a terrible manager. I never thought I could hate a manager more than Neddy or Grandpa Ken but I do.
  20. Please keep his .330 career OBP away from our CF.
  21. I really don't care if a game is 15-13 or 2-1 as long as it's entertaining.
  22. No we wouldn't have gotten Greinke by taking out Alcides and replacing him with Gamel. Why would the Royals want Gamel or another OF when they had Moustakas and Hosmer at positions that Gamel would be filling? That makes absolutely no sense for the Royals to even want Gamel at all. That's why I said "or one of our OF'ers."
  23. The worst was not flat out telling Hardy he will play 3rd base. A left side of Hardy and Escobar would look pretty good right now. Maybe Gamel or one of the OF'ers goes to KC instead of Alcides and we still get Greinke.
  24. When you consider 6 perfect games in the last 4 seasons versus 16 in the over 100 seasons before, it is becoming more common and a little less special. When I saw this morning that Matt Cain threw a perfect game I didn't go "Wow!" My actual first though was, "This is happening a lot."
  25. Just saw on MLBTradeRumors that the White Sox released this guy so he could play in Japan. I took a look at his minor league numbers and while they aren't eye popping they aren't too bad. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker&utm_campaign=Linker&id=doyle-005joh He might be a little on the old side (26) but I can't believe the Sox never even gave him a September callup. Just looking at his innings it doesn't look like he had any major injuries.
