  1. All this hype is only going to lead to disappointment. Which is funny, because the team has really done zero hype.
  2. The shorter IL kept players fresher and healthier and gave opportunities to guys who would not have gotten it otherwise, ever if it was just for a handful of innings. Of all the changes that have been made the last few years this is just about the only one that isn't totally stupid so of course it's going to be the only one that's undone.
  3. From what I read each Japanese team can have 4 foreign players on the 25 man roster. 3 position players max or 3 pitchers max. All 4 cannot be pitchers or all 4 cannot be position players. I believe they can also have one Korean or asian player that does not count as one of the 4. I guess I was aware of those rules but never really gave it much thought. Imagine if MLB said 21 of the 25 players on a roster had to be natural born Americans. The reason is teams in those countries would be 90% failed North American and Latin American MLB'ers and hardly any native players. Hard to grow the sport in your country when the vast majority of professionals in the country are foreign. I do understand how on the surface it seems rather odd and there's no way a rule like that would ever work in the states.
  4. Rudolph gets hit in the head and immediately looks to the ref for a flag. Not exactly the reaction one would expect. Also, Rudolph's agent said they are considering pressing charges. I get it, but that seems like a dangerous precedent to set that I'm sure both the NFL and the NFLPA want no part of.
  5. Anyone else watching AEW? I've seen everything except the PPV so far. Definitely more interesting than the WWE has been over the last decade plus.
  6. Doubt he even makes it to spring training. Stearns generally churns through guys on the 40 man over the offseason.
  7. Cruz providing the comic relief early the offseason. Clearly he was hired to keep the clubhouse atmosphere light.
  8. This whole Kap "workout" thing is hilarious. Just a real joke by all parties involved. Colin should have refused to participate and the NFL couldn't be any more transparent with their intentions behind it. They might as well have invited Antonio Brown to it.
  9. Lose their first but get a comp, so they'll probably only drop back 5 or so spots.
  10. With most BBWAA awards you can look at the votes and see about 1/3 of them are cast with clear homer-ism that changes the results. There really needs to be a better system.
  11. Brewers were stealing signs? Gosh I hope not because if true most of the team is much worse at hitting than previously thought. As for the whole issue, whatever. It's illegal the way they are doing it and I get that but I just don't care. I can guarantee every team is either doing it or trying to figure out a way to do it without getting caught.
  12. [sarcasm]But he only hit .241 as a major leaguer. What a terrible hire![/sarcasm]
  13. Some random points to add: My senior year of college I decided to live at home and make the hour-ish commute instead. I set my schedule so I only had classes 3 days a week. With the scholarships the school gave me and not having to pay for room or a meal plan, it cost me less to go to that private school than the local two-year UW school. Private schools throw gobs of money at kids to go there and can make it quite (relatively speaking) affordable. After I graduated it was quite a few years before I could find any sort of related employment. It caused quite a rift between me and my parents (boomers) as they assumed I just wasn't trying. My mom went to Bellin College of Nursing decades ago and graduated with the equivalent of a certificate in nursing. The day after graduation she went to a local hospital just to ask if they had any openings. She was hired on the spot and worked that night. She retired a couple years ago after working her whole life at that same job. No way she could to relate to or understand anything I was going through. I worked at a high school for a couple years and being there really opened my eyes to how ridiculous it is that we are putting such pressure on 16-18 year old kids to figure out their lives at that age. Not that they shouldn't be thinking about and planning it but a 4 year school right after high school shouldn't even be a consideration for all but a very few kids. Take a few Gen Ed classes at a local college or online and try to get a job of any kind in some sort of area that you're interested in to find out if you actually want to do it before dropping 100 grand and wasting 4 or 5 years of your life on something you might hate.
  14. Drew pitched himself out of Milwaukee last year. Someone is almost certainly going to give him more money and more years than we can or should.
  15. Can't say no fast enough.
  16. He does but the NFL is being as equally stupid. The league clearly doesn't want him to play but instead of just banning or suspending him they're trying to act like they want to "hear his side" and hold him in football purgatory until some team signs him. Some may think he deserves that, and maybe he does, but it makes the league look weak as heck. Roger just needs to grow a pair and kick him out.
  17. We had a Popeyes open here a couple months ago. The first week people were waiting an hour or more for their food because the staff couldn't keep up with the crowds. Last weekend I drove by the new Burger King that opened earlier in the week. The drive through was backed up around the building and into the street.
  18. The umpires should have nothing to do with it. It should be clearly set in the rules what the top and bottom is for each batter with no variation. Umpires don't get to determine the width of the plate as whatever they want, why should the top and bottom of the strikezone be any different.
  19. Everything is a pejorative to someone.
  20. What were you expecting for Chase Anderson? Spanberger is at least an actual honest-to-goodness prospect. I was expecting nothing and we got nothing. Wouldn't be surprised if Spanberger is out of baseball in two years. I'll take the extra $8.5M though.
  21. Heck, I'd take Vlad Sr. Can I interest you in a Chad Spanberger? @ScottyMitchTSN 3 minutes ago #BlueJays are sending 1B Chad Spanberger, who was acquired in the Seunghwan Oh trade, to the Brewers. Spanberger, 24, struggled in Double-A in 2019. Think I prefer Vlad Sr.
  22. Generally, yes, I would agree with you but it looks like Christmas outside. After I finished shoveling for the trick or treaters I felt like I needed to start clearing the living room to put the tree up.
  23. The simple fix to the top/bottom problem is to change the rule from the batter's stance defining those edges to the batter standing straight up. In spring training, every player in camp will have those measurements taken and input into the system. It will be the same for that player the whole season, no need to adjust anything or the player trying to game the system by changing their stance every couple weeks. What MLB really needs to do when testing this thing out though is have random innings where the ump is making the calls and the computer the rest but not tell any of the players or coaches when those innings are. If everyone knows beforehand who's making the calls, the players are going to complain about whomever that it is. If they don't, I doubt they'll be so certain about whom to complain about.
  24. Both winning pitchers finished the year in the opposite league that they won the award for. I can't imagine that's ever happened before.
