  1. Pretty simple, just raise tuition and rake in more of that student loan cash.
  2. Does Adam Gase get a second year with the Jets? I doubt it. I think Gase was hired before the GM so there's no attachment there.
  3. Basically guys aren't happy because it's enforcing the strike zone as the rule is written. That's not a problem with the system, it's a problem with the rule. I've seen other guys complaining that it removes a catcher's framing ability. Replay has taken away a fielder's ability to "sell" an out and yet, I've seen no complaining about that. I'm totally in favor of taking the human element out of calling balls and strikes but figuring out the top and bottom of the strikezone is going to be the problem. The sides of the strikezone will be the same for every player but the top and bottom will change from player to player and, as the rule is currently written, it can change for the same player from at bat to at bat. Good luck figuring that out.
  4. The rules about position players pitching are dumb, dumb, dumb. It makes no sense. What exactly is the point? And why are there no rules about pitchers being used a pinch hitters or runners?
  5. Grandal was going to sign with the crappy Mets before his his fake "not wanting to hurt other catchers" excuse. He'll sign with whoever offers the most money, regardless of the integrity of said organization's rudder.
  6. That's what's going to happen. And it will end up the same situation as now with cable and satellite where you're paying for stuff you don't watch and have to pay extra for things you do.
  7. Letter of the law, certainly the correct call. Turner's left foot took every step on the fair side grass except for the last one which was on the base. No where near the running lane. However, I've only ever seen that rule come in to play on throws from near the plate that are going up the baseline and the runner could get in the way of the ball. I didn't think it could be enforced on throws from other places and I don't even know why it would be. I will give Holbrook credit, though, he was looking right down the line the whole time so it's not like he was lazy and just pulled some call out of his butt because he saw Gurriel's glove go flying off his hand from contact. He was in perfect position to make that call.
  8. Whatever ends the charade of "amateur" in college sports is fine with me.
  9. Nothing is official, but so far, correct. If that is the logo they are going with hopefully they do something a little more interesting with the jerseys.
  10. The 30th Anniversary of The More You Know promos. I only recognize 2 or 3 people in them and they say the dumbest things. Apparently NBC feels these random 5 second spots have spurred social change.
  11. Hader bested Yates in K/9, H/9, and WHIP. They were pretty close in BB/9 (2.4 vs 1.9). ERA, ERA+, and FIP Yates has the clear advantage. Hader's HR/9 was unsustainable high and Yates was unsustainably low. Career wise, they are virtually the same allowing homeruns but Kirby has pitched more in HR suppressing parks. Point is neither was clearly better than the other, unless you're a Brewer fan with bad memories of the last few games of the year.
  12. I mean it sounds stupid but I could see the name Brewers being dropped at some point for being not socially acceptable or something like that. Not right now, but some day.
  13. My wife doesn't pronounce the "k" in breakfast, neither does her brother or their mother but their father does. It drives me crazy whenever I hear them say it. Our 3 year old has started to pronounce it that way too. Whenever I say breakfast to him I hit the "k" really hard so he knows the correct way to say it but he gets mad and says it back to me without the "k". They're obviously teaming against me.
  14. ...but gambling, integrity of the game...
  15. Speaking as someone that doesn't have a cheering interest for any particular NFL team and growing up in Wisconsin around Packers fans, I would agree that they are the Cardinals fans of the NFL. Not anywhere near as annoying or hypocritical, but a lot of similarities.
  16. The Nats have had a lights out rotation for the better part of 5 years or more and accomplished not much of anything. The only reason they're still in the playoffs is due to a somewhat flukey, unfortunate series of events against Hader. Not to mention they barely made it past the Dodgers. They're the poster child for Starting Pitching isn't everything.
  17. Have we learned nothing from professional sports over the last few years? Everyone will put on a sad face and say they are sorry or outraged or whatever else and move on and forget about it in a few weeks. Maybe this guy never gets a GM job but I doubt this is going to keep him out of front office jobs.
  18. At the risk of hijacking the thread, there is other big news in Cubs land regarding whether Kris Bryant becomes a free agent following next season or 2021, Kris Bryant's Service Time Grievance (via Bleacher Nation). There's no way Bryant wins. We all know why they delayed his call up but too bad for Kris. The Cubs played by the agreed upon rules. There are certainly going to be changes in the next CBA but you can't be making exceptions for players now because they're not happy about it. Now if there was some evidence that the Cubs offered him an extension and said he would make the opening day roster only if he signed then you may have something. As for Ross, I'm sure he'll be fine.
  19. Moose and Grandal filing for free agency would open up two spots.
  20. I'm glad to see someone else write this. I have always felt the current uniforms and logo are incredibly boring and sterile. Totally a corporate design with zero life or originality.
  21. I think the one thing we can agree on is that whatever they do, the vast majority of people will immediately hate it.
  22. This TNF game is destroying my fantasy team this week and Joe Flacco sucks.
  23. Ya, I'm really surprised at the love for Perez here. His hitting stats are terrible and his approach at the plate is even worse. He seemed at least average defensively at any spot you put him, which is worth something, but overall just a bad baseball player. Even for as pointless as the "Brewer Wall of Fame" or whatever they call it is, if he makes it it will take away whatever significance that thing has. Might as well put Hank the Dog and the Happy Youngster up there too.
  24. That one falls in the same category as the Lions fans who aren’t satisfied saying that the bad calls on Monday cost their team the game. They have to go on to say that the Lions get screwed more than any team in the league and it’s because of a deep conspiracy in the NFL to help popular teams like the Packers at the expense of teams like the Lions. This is said in every sport by every fan when their team loses on bad calls. Even fans of the "popular" teams.
  25. Maddon alone certainly isn't pushing them past the Astros and probably not the A's either for the next few years. I'm sure he's better than Ausmus but I really can't see them making the playoffs anytime soon without some serious luck... and pitching.
