  1. I bolded the main part about what you wrote that everybody here needs to really think about and understand, before they call for the team to rebuild. It could very well mean this team wont compete for 5-10+ years. I as a fan don't want that. However, I'm in favor of trading a couple key players right now depending on the players we get in return. I would want a top 25 prospect for each of the following players or my answer is no, Gallardo, Hart, Lohse, Ramirez and Gomez. If the Brewers have to include a prospect or two in a trade involving these players, then so be it. Also, I view Braun and Segura as untradeable. They are the faces of the Brewers franchise and they won't be traded.
  2. Why would we fire the bullpen coach when our bullpen is actually doing much better? Kranitz is the one who needs to go and if this team continues to perform bad then Roenicke is next.
  3. Very nice win today. It was actually way more enjoyable, because Rickie Weeks didn't start. Bianchi is numbering Rickie's days in Milwaukee. Glad Axford was good. Perhaps his problems are more mental at this point. He's overpaid for an 8th inning guy, but like the other poster said if he can shut down the 8th inning that shortens the game. My fear is that because of the money Axford is making, and should he continue to pitch well, that they will make him the closer again. Where I think Axford can't mentally handle and to be honest I believe Henderson is a better closer with better more consistent stuff. Man if this team had 2 more middle of the rotation SP's we would be really good right now, and have a good shot to get back into this race.
  4. Our difference comes down to 1 thing, will the Brewers be able to compete next season should they add 2 solid pitchers, dump Weeks and Axford, and find average replacements for those two. I believe it's doable and I also believe they can contend with the best clubs should they do this. You obviously don't. Looking at our offensive players and how well many of them are doing you bet we could trade for that pitching. You are underestimating the Brewers ability come mid-season or in the off-season to trade for pitching should they decide to do so. I'll tell you something else. Many people here and elsewhere didn't think the Brewers had the system or players to trade for Sabathia, Greinke, and Marcum. DM sure ended that debate. I'm not worried about it. I'm about 90-95% sure that Mark A will not rebuild, and he will find away to get the pitching, and they know they have offense to trade.
  5. Lohse has been the best SP we have this season and can actually get past 6IP. I'd say Lohse is better than Gallardo, and by the end of this season he could very well be the best SP we have on the team, and established himself as our ace or co-ace, and you are honestly going to say it doesn't matter that we have him on our team? Not to mention should we lose him we'd have to find 2 more just like him instead of just 1 to field a competitive team with a depleted farm system. Lohse over this entire season will by that time have had such a positive chain reaction effect on our pitching staff that his 11 million would be well worth it and better than a 1st round pick that would have a 50% chance of working out, or more like a 40% chance knowing our inability to draft well lately, and develop. Top prospects can always be traded for, and lord knows we will have offense to trade. You really don't realize how much of a waste it is to sign guys who will not make the difference between missing and making the playoffs do you? If you are talking about this season you may be right, but if you are talking about next season your likely wrong. I tend to think beyond just this season.

  7. and go into the season with hands down the worst starting pitching staff in the history of the Major Leagues? The Brewers SP staff is god awful right now, but imagine what it would be like without Lohse. The fact that the Brewers have both Lohse and Gallardo gives them the ability to build around them and the really good offense that they currently have, and saves the team from having to go through a 5-10 year complete rebuild. I as a Brewers fans don't want to wait that long for a competitive team. The Lohse signing was a really good signing by not Doug Melvin, but by Mark A. If they need to shed salary in the next couple years, then there are plenty of other areas to do that; especially with the Hart/Weeks contracts almost up. That's 21 million over the next 2 years off the books, and if you include getting rid of Axford that's 5 million more (26 million). If the Brewers get rid of Weeks and Axford, and can somehow trade for another SP of Lohse's ability and a solid number 3/4 SP, this team will be right back in business. The Brewers might need to get creative to acquire those SP's, but if they do they will be right in the think of contention. Maybe not this season, but as soon as next.
  8. Weeks hasn't just lost power, but he has lost speed as well. I do want to say that Weeks is more than capable of hitting the home runs and driving the ball, not as much as a couple years ago, but you get the point. However, he can't do that if he can't make contact with the ball and continues to strike out at this enormous rate. I would be more hopeful and call this a slump if he was making some contact, but he can't even do that. I believe he's done unless he makes a huge mechanical adjustment, and he needs the minor leagues to be able to make that adjustment. For Rickie's careers sake he needs to accept an assignment in the minors.
  9. DM is no fool, he wants to win, and continuing to run an inferior option out there every day without fail, no matter what his salary is seems ridiculous. I highly doubt Melvin is making RRR start Weeks when his job could be on the line based on on-field performance. If Melvin is calling this shot, RRR needs to stand up and tell him he is wrong. Of course, I think RRR is making this decision 100% on his own, so it is probably a moot point. Don't underestimate playing time based on contract (money committed), especially based on money earned based on playing time as Weeks contract is. A GM understands that he needs to exhaust all options to death, before he pulls the plug. A manager wants to win, because his job is on the line as well, and likely more so than the GM. You bet DM is involved in this.
  10. Btw.. it could be RR decision to play Weeks, but considering how much money Weeks is making I think DM is more involved then we really think.
  11. *cough* Gast is a LHP *cough* But I do agree with lowering Weeks at bats. Maybe 0-Dodgers would be a good start. Yeah, I don't know why I didn't think of that. If Weeks plays against 1 RHP no matter the history against him, then that's automatically a bad decision on RR, and we will know they aren't ready to sit Weeks any time soon. RR said he'd play the match-ups, so we will see if this is what he meant. Now if Weeks can't even hit LHP's then get rid of him.
  12. I'm wondering if the orders to play Weeks at 2B no matter what are coming from the Front office. DM.
  13. Why Bianchi wasn't at 2B today to start is beyond me. If RR is smart he will sit Weeks or go to a full platoon. Have weeks only play Vs a LHP. That should lower his playing time dramatically.
  14. You have got to be kidding me!! Rickie Weeks is costing this team key AB's for key runs. It's time to site him on the bench. How many loses till RR understands this?
  15. Rickie Weeks losing playing time, finally, and RR will pick his match-ups when he plays other players in his place. This should actually make people happy. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130518&content_id=47922032&notebook_id=47922152&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil
  16. In the years I've followed Baseball, what Bianchi did, is supposed to be rewarded with another Start, going with the hot bat. I will have a lot more faith in Roenicke if that happens tomorrow. If Weeks is in the Starting Lineup, forget it! Excellent post. My favorite post of the year, because you are so right and this should happen.
  17. We need more runs, because I'm sure Estrada will give up that homerun he always give up every start.
  18. What I'm afraid happened is that the Brewers offer must have been a low one like the Alcedes Escobar deal, which 1 month ago Segura was comparable to, but the Agent wisely decided to wait and now Segura is playing out of his mind both offensively and defensively, and the offer will need to be dramatically increased to about 30 million Guaranteed (Escobar was 10-15 million guaranteed) to really get Segura's agent to consider it. This is speculation on my part. With this said, the proper way for the Brewers to have done this a month ago would be to be serious upfront propose a contract offer of between 25-30 million guaranteed, and extend him till age 32. Now if Segura's agent and Segura decides to wait till after this season is over with, then I suspect that Segura will get a Castro type deal. Remember he's putting up these numbers as a 23 year old. I really hope the Brewers made a serious initial offer.
  19. I forgot to mention in my post that my plan would allow the Brewers to keep their good offense in tact, while contending in the immediate future by restocking the pitching. I don't see Mark A ever doing a fire sale and blowing up the team. Financially, he wont ever do it.
  20. 1.) It should start with a new scouting director. Find one in an organization that has been successful drafting pitching. And throw money at him. 2.) Have more of a presence in the international draft. 3.) I'd trade immediately the following players for all the top pitching we can get - Gallardo, Hart, Weeks (dump his salary). 4.) Don't extend any player not at a premium position to big money, period. No matter the age. That means only extend players at SP, SS, CF, 3B, and Catcher. 5.) Keep a young team. Young teams feed off each other. Young players also are more aggressive running the bases and they hustle all the time. They are cheaper, also. So many reasons to go young. Don't sign anybody over the age of 32. I don't mind having Aramis Ramirez at 3B till the end of his contract, but that's the only exception. 6.) Extend good players pre-arby. Extend can't miss ones in their first year. 7.) I'd explore trading any good hitting prospects we have in the minors and exchange them for top pitching prospects. I know this is rarely done, but it has happened in the past, so I'd explore it. We'd have to give up more because pitching prospects are at a premium, but so be it.
  21. That was hilarious, pebadger. Everybody here should watch that video and they would realize that it could be much worse..
  22. Take out Axford and Fiers, and our bullpen is much better. I don't buy that the bullpen is a problem. It's only a problem when RR keeps trotting out those two, who at this point shouldn't be on the team.
  23. and I think you need to explain who we can trade that will actually bring back decent pitching that will help in the next 2 years. None of the guys who could bring back anything decent are gong to be traded.(Braun, Segura, Gomez) Just not what Melvin does. You don't know how these players will be doing come July, so again I'd keep an open mind.
