  1. First off, I want to say thanks for not blasting my initial comment. "Paying women to promote the Brewers" could have been interpreted in a totally different way than I meant...was not trying to be sexist. Glad others agree. While Sophia is attractive, and she seems to know much more about the nuances of the game than Telli (however it was spelled....I kept waiting for him to refer to "runs" as "points" given how he butchered basic terminology), her voice drives me crazy (in a bad way). A mild Midwestern accent can sound pleasant and joyful....but when someone sounds like they're intentionally over-doing an accent, it makes their IQ seem really low. I didn't realize the Fox Sports girls were regional until the other night when I looked them up. It appears we are stuck with them ruining our commercial breaks for the entire season. They seem to have no purpose at all. I'd rather have the Brewers FSN promos than them.
  2. This seems like a stupid thing they've started this year. Paying women to promote the Brewers? Sounds like a waste to me As for this year's in-game reporter (Sophia Minnaert), I keep getting annoyed by her accent. She sounds so Fargo that I struggle to actually hear what is being said.
  3. Here's my thinking with the 8 year $45 million idea. We're seeing a lot of good early this season, so it's a bit skewed 2014: $500k 2015: $550k (total=$1.05 million) 2016: arby 1--$3.5 million (total=$4.55m) 2017: arby 2--$6.5 million (total=$11.05m) 2018: arby 3--$9 million (total=20.05m) FA1-3: $11 million per season (total= 53.05m). That's projecting he keeps looking good as a player, so it's risky. But I think there is greater likelihood of him being $14m/season by arby 3 than $7 million.
  4. gotta agree. I would immediately offer an 8 year $45 million deal with incentives. If he goes year to year, we're going to be sorry in 4 years! I worry about him at SS getting clobbered. Doesn't it seem like guys are sliding at him particularly late and aggressively?
  5. I wish the stats said he was getting better each year. We're seeing some positive signs, but it's also a long season.
  6. I need to point out that they'll win 12-in a row so that I will get annoying calls from all my friends while they're enjoying George Webbs. Also, I'm really annoyed that every year the West Coast LA-SD trip has the Brewers in San Diego on weeknights. Seriously, can't they for once land those games on the weekend. I don't want to see Dodger Stadium...I want to visit beautiful San Diego and Petco
  7. I've always enjoyed following Wooten for the reasons stated. He's had to prove himself at each level. Sometimes it's initially been a struggle, but he's managed. The year off for Tommy John surgery set him back as well, or else he might have been in the pen early last year
  8. also, in fairness to TheCrew07, Adam, and the 'stache, I want to point out that I wasn't trying to diss them. I guess we've all been around these forums long enough to realize the views of eachother and our tendencies. I sure hope I'm right with some of my thoughts/feelings and I hope I'm wrong about others like Gennett and Morris. I tried to target common arguments made by a couple posters. We all whine at times. For me, my big complaint has been that the minor leaguers have underperformed this year. I've been arguing that our system is much stronger than advertised, but nearly everyone is off to a slow start. Maybe I am lucky and it's the weather
  9. personally, as long as we continue winning, I don't want him to change. Yes I'm getting superstitious now, but considering a week ago this team was being left for dead, let's go with it
  10. When the Brewers contracted with Peterson's firm before hiring Peterson, an evaluation was done on Gallardo and deemed his mechanics to be perfect. They said there was no excess stress on the body at any point. I believe that was brewers.com or jsonline that reported that years ago.
  11. Oxy, while the whining gets annoying, it can also be very amusing. We all whine about different things. For me, I'm finding the MLB club much more fun to follow than the minors since we have few off to good starts down there. I'm also confident that the next time we lose 3 in a row while playing poorly, The 'stache will start a similar thread trying to diagnose our problems while Adam will start several threads demanding Doug Melvin blow up the team because 1)Braun, Gallardo, Weeks, etc will never have higher value and 2) 2016 is much more important than 2013. TheCrew07 will likely speak about Melvin's ineffectiveness as GM, MA's meddling, overall team short-sightedness, and Taylor Jungmann's prospect floor (rather than ceiling). As for myself, I'll continue to preach patience, show trust in Mark Rogers and our other young pitchers, question whether Scooter or Hunter will ever contribute much in MLB, and have faith that our team will win 85-89 games as currently constructed, while also defending Melvin since's the GM that guided us to the playoffs twice (matching the previous GMs in my 32 years). Occasionally I'll get irritated on the message board, but that's typical over the last few years
  12. I saw it differently. I was convinced and telling my students that I felt this was a domestic terrorist incident. It didn't seem sophisticated enough for a professional foreign agency. Plus as an Econ teacher, I couldn't help but notice that the bombing was on Tax Day. My attitude only changed once the FBI released the photos of the individuals. I thought they appeared eastern European more than Indian, but "suspect #2" was a very close match to the picture of the missing Indian-American student. I'm sorry, perhaps you thought of color of skin right away. My natural instinct was also to think of color of skin, and I thought white. It did not cross my mind that these would be foreign terrorists. But when the pictures came out that showed people of a slightly darker complexion and featured very unique facial features (suspect 2's nose). That's when people on the internet pored over pictures of the events. Others suggested #2 looked like the missing Indian-American student. At first glance it didn't seem to match, until his profile showed similar head shape. The only things facially that didn't look a match to amateurs were a small mole on his cheek and the shade of skin color. Of course, quality of photos can account for both. When the Boston police department said that they were pursuing the missing Indian-American suspect AND an accomplice (Mike something), it allowed many of us to assume that the internet pseudo-sleuths were right. In fact, when I posted early this morning and mentioned the Indian-American, it's because the police used that name. Maybe some people looked at the bombing with anti-foreign sentiment, but of my friends it was a 6-1 ratio, domestic-to-foreign. I do feel bad for the young high school student that was targeted for questioning by the gov't. Although that was also a fair request by the FBI since he and his coach/friend were seen mingling in the area for hours with backpacks and bags matching the description. I just wish that people wouldn't have taken his photo and assumed that "wanted for questioning" meant "suspect." Unfortunately, people jumped to conclusions.
  13. I love it when I feel like a genius....it's so rare!
  14. Thanks for the quick responses guys. I assumed that was the case. And yes, the media reported multiple times that the voters of Mass have twice approved the death penalty however it has not been implemented by the legislatures. Either way, just glad that we get to see him face justice.
  15. WOO HOO!!!!! In class, my students asked my thoughts. I mentioned that perhaps it's because I'm of the 9/11 generations, I feel we were cheated of seeing the 19 hijackers put on trial. As a citizen, it makes me very happy that we were able to take the suspect alive. The trial will help the nation heal. Hopefully the wounds of the families and victims will be able to heal with time. One question now...trial in Boston court or Federal court? Given the attack that happened, it would seem he could be tried as an enemy combatant given the potential terror-related charges.
  16. brettac1, that was obviously debunked. The reason for it because of an extremely close photo resemblance (not sure how close they look in real life), an odd disappearance, and the police identifying the suspect by that name on police bands. It makes me wonder when they realized it was these guys, because the suspects had uncanny resemblances to the poor Indian-Americans that were accused. While it was exciting to have a potential name last night, it didn't seem to add up seeing as its the wrong religion (haven't heard of Hindu/sikh having a beef with US) and the color of skin would be different than the pictures showed. But the facial features sure looked close. Whether it was right or wrong, it was apparently a plausible enough theory that law enforcement had the individuals on their radar. I'm glad there have been mass apologies for people wrongfully accusing the individuals. I'm also glad the other people considered suspicious did the right thing to clear their names and went to police/FBI HQ to clear their names. I'm sure they'll feel awful having been accused of this. The good news is their names were cleared. From following a bit on some websites, the biggest travesty I saw wasn't that people on various websites were developing names or suggesting suspects. Instead, the travesty was that while these groups intended to use the forums for discussions, the worldwide media and people on social media opted to take these peoples' ideas/thoughts/suspicions as if they were official FBI suspects and publish them for the masses.
  17. Amazing to me that last night they didn't have rapid deployment forces on standby with vehicles or helicopters. They had a ton of vehicles...must have seen 400-700 police cars. I think I went to bed at 3-something here in Arizona....of course woke up at 5:45 for work. Amazing that the missing Indian-American student appeared a dead-on match for this suspect. Then to wake up and here it had nothing to do with him. Such drama today. This needs to end soon.
  18. hat tip to folks on Reddit and elsewhere, but it sounds like a missing Brown University student is apparently the "white hat" bomber.
  19. Been watching for 3 hours now...supposedly now both bombing suspects in custody. Massive shootout throughout the Boston area, high-speed chase, bombs being thrown, etc
  20. as a human being, I'm not a fan of this. Multiple instances of domestic violence? A DUI for a month worth of alcohol in one evening THEN taking the wheel. not a good day for SE Wisco. Of course, I'm happy to have a solid ballplayer. Not sure I feel the benefits outweigh the costs
  21. The comparison of McNeal and Blue is fair (and how I was hoping Blue would progress entering the season). Both were lock-down defenders. McNeal was the better slasher (although he had a much better team around him in terms of athletic ability and scoring threats) and better 3pt shooter. Blue is probably faster and more athletic. Both occasionally spelled the PG's as primary ball-handler. If McNeal can't cut it in the NBA despite being the best player from his college team, I have no clue how Blue can make it. Then again, I was amazed that Chris Crawford played something like 8 years in the NBA considering he was constantly getting benched by Mike Deane for stupid plays.
  22. homer, I would think 41 would be much faster. No rural neighborhoods. It's a pain to get from State Street in that area to 94
  23. I think Blue has gotten some bad advice. He's not as advanced offensively as Hayward, Crowder, or DJO. They came out as seniors. Blue had a very good year but he has a long way to go. If he goes pro, I think he'll make his money in Europe.
  24. ha ha, I see something pop up in the spring time so I think golf...and all the dates were 13th-16th...I never looked at the month or year.
  25. It's neat to say I've been to games there. It was never a problem walking up and buying Brewers-Cubs tickets at the window. I never got the myth of Wrigley always being sold out. But man, what a dump!!! Terrible sight lines, uncomfortable seats, and falling concrete
