  1. adambr2, when a player makes an impact, I don't care at all about super 2 status. If he keeps this up, he's a bargain and it won't matter
  2. I doubt Kottaras is still hurt. Ishikawa being DFA'd sounds good. Kottaras has OBP skills and power...Ishikawa has neither
  3. To sort of go off of what JohnBriggs said, the Brewers have to play well, but if they take care of business within the division, that's huge (we gain and they lose). Also the division isn't based on how well we do, but how well we do relative to others. People seem to think that the Reds, Pirates, and Cards are going to continue at their current paces. Remember the '11 Pirates? Weren't they in first place right now? Or I believe the '98 Brewers only a few back in the division entering Sept. How about the Cardinals last year? They played great ball in the second half and still lost ground. Without Votto, expect the Reds to come crashing down a bit. With the Brewers healthy and the rotation doing great, expect us to play better (.600 or .650 ball). The Cards still aren't that deep. The Pirates are the Pirates.
  4. if we have a chance to contend, we need 1-2 relievers. I support moving K-Rod if we can get some other arms, or if we feel others can help. Can Rogers help? Nelson? Thornburg? Stetter?
  5. jjfanec, should we move Gomez to SS? We have 4 competent (or better) CF's and no competent SS's. I'd trade Gomez for Hardy 100% of the time
  6. At this point I think Rogers' future is as a starter, but I'd love to see him get time next year to jump into the pen as a 1-3 inning reliever that learns to attack hitters. He can always be converted back to starting. Wainwright didn't have much command before going to the Cardinals' pen, and it worked for him
  7. what about that weird one last year where the Brewers gave up a run on a forced 3rd out? I think it was a catch, and they forced out a runner that didn't tag, but before the tag-forceout happened, another runner scored and they counted the run.
  8. Just thinking back, but have the Rays had much recent success with hitters? They do a great job with 1-year contracts and hit on some studs, but the real story of their success has been their pitching. They haven't had a lot of ace-types, but they've had a lot of #2-3 type pitchers. They've had such good depth that they always seem to be trading one, replacing him with another good option. And they've also had great success with bullpen reclamation projects like Grant Balfour and even Troy Percival.
  9. Wainwright learned command in the bullpen. I don't see how this is bad
  10. The curve analysis reminds me of Ben Hendrickson. His debut he "struck" 2 guys out looking, only to have umps call balls and then give up hits on the next pitches.
  11. Green has 2 more options, so I don't know why people are saying he's not in our plans. It's good to build depth in AAA.
  12. I don't know how similar they are, since Morris has more raw power and Gamel draws more walks. But still a good thing to see Morris turning a corner
  13. then I'm not sure. It shouldn't be Schafer since he likely won't play. They don't need an infielder. Perhaps Gindl to be the 5th OF since he's left-handed and doesn't profile as a starter. It could also be a bench bat like Jordan Brown, or a guy that profiles as a utility player like Farris.
  14. Arnett struck out the world, but also gave up lots of runs.
  15. I'd bring up another pitcher for the bullpen. Probably Mitch Stetter to give Roenecke a LOOGY or Mike McClendon. The Crew could also decide that it's time to shift Rogers to the pen and see what he's got. We need 7th and 8th inning help.
  16. So Gomez...who should be hitting 9th on AAA teams, hits leadoff in the majors and you defend it? Hopefully he turns a corner and becomes adequate. But he hits worse than a catcher. Here's hoping Morgan continues his OBP increasing so that he shows he's the best option in CF.
  17. In June of '08, my friend in the clubhouse told me Sheets' arm was shot. I said "what do you mean, he's throwing 98!?!" He said Ben was grinding it out, but hurting a lot. Sure enough, by the end of August he was out for the year. Didn't he also start the all-star game that year? I don't believe we ever heard confirmation that Sheets was out of shape. He always looked in shape to me. He always had back problems (sleeping on the floor in hotels) and the freak vestibular neuritis. The only place I ever saw reports of him being out of shape were from fans on here.
  18. I would start Greinke tomorrow and have Estrada go into warmups to take over in inning 2, 3 or 4.
  19. Stetter would make a good LOOGY. That's solved, so what about 2 7th/8th inning guys and deal K-Rod
  20. I don't know much about Gagnon. But I know that Sheets became truly dominant when he scrapped the Brewers' preferred 2-seamer and went to the 4-seamer
  21. Stetter starting to throw really well. He should get back to AAA soon, or even be a callup to the big leagues next week to shake up our pen a bit
