  1. A bit quick for a lot of people to comment on here. Here's what we know: -Morgan ranks as among the best defensive CF's, although struggles sometimes coming in on balls and has a weak arm -Morgan should never face a lefty. -Gomez should rarely face a righty (don't be fooled by small samples so far. a few good at bats don't chance the 2,000 or so of his career) -Gomez ranks among the top 2 or 3 defensive CF's, although struggles with some routes going back on balls, but has a very strong arm -Gomez has power, but allergic to working count and drawing walks -Aoki has good at bats and slaps the ball all over the field. -Aoki historically bats better off lefties than righties. -Aoki has adequate range for CF, but we also have 2 of the top 5 CF's in baseball ahead of him As of now, I like the idea of letting Gomez face lefties, Morgan face 2/3rd of righties, and Aoki face 1/3, while also trying to get Hart a few days off a month (and perhaps Braun given intercoastal injuries in past).
  2. I always liked Yost's strategy to have the starter catch 3/5 games and the backup catch 2/5.
  3. Also, don't forget the roughly 45% in taxes he paid those years. Those nice earnings aren't nearly as they seem. I hope he can come back. It helps that he's lefty.
  4. paul253, I never was excited about a Big Ten pitcher, but Heckathorn was throwing 97-98 in college and was considered a big arm. I always like HS arms early, and lots of bats. We need bats. We've had 4 or 5 pitching heavy drafts in a row now, and it's showing. We are lacking legitimate prospects at several spots.
  5. Like I was hoping, Josh Prince has apparently remembered how to walk. Too bad he's not at SS anymore. I'm going to hold out hope that this is a temporary move...he's he's healthy, but coming back from arm weakness or something.
  6. Shaw has been playing SS lately. I'm intrigued, since he's such an OBP machine
  7. Carlos George and Yadi Rivera appear to be able to hit, but they are showing an allergy to walking. Meanwhile Max Walla with an incredible .333 OBP despite no hits entering today.
  8. hiandtight, I'm basing my assumption on Narvy being out for the year and most of next on Brewers' history. We've had two players in recent history pitch adequately with shoulder damage--Ben McDonald and Jamey Wright. Wright was never very good, but didn't seem any different because of it. McDonald was arguably our best signing in the 90s and we got great production out of him until his damaged shoulder completely blew out.
  9. With Narvy out, I'm now worried about the '13 rotation. I expected Yo, Narvy, 2 of the 3 free agents, and 1 of the prospects--Rogers, Scarpetta, Peralta, or Thornburg. Now we're likely without Narvy (be realistic, rotator cuff injuries are usually 2 years, if not more, and rarely are the same ever again) we lose depth
  10. Gomez is the same as last year. The difference is he's not being over-exposed vs righties. It would be foolish to expand him beyond an occasional start vs a righty when we have two competent left-handed CF's in the majors and one in AAA
  11. When Greinke was a reliever with the Royals following his departure from the team, he was regularly throwing 97-98.
  12. In weeks where we face 6 righties, I'd like Aoki to get two starts. I'd also like to make sure the Brewers give Braun and Hart a day or two off per month to try to keep them healthy.
  13. fyi, the roster construction thread is an example of the knee-jerk reactions I was referring to. I'm sorry...I was a bit cranky when I made my other post. I think we just tend to view things a bit differently, and it seems like you want constant changes to the roster like a fantasy sports team. be patient and we'll be fine.
  14. last year he was outrighted to AAA, wasn't he? Revocable waivers are in August-Sept.
  15. The angle that's shown the most makes it look like Morgan was never tagged. The catcher's glove is hidden, then when it emerges as Morgan scores, you see what appears to be a failed swipe because it appears to miss Morgan's butt. I'd like to see another angle, but it looks like he's safe on that angle, unless the catcher tagged him on the foot long before the failed swipe at the butt
  16. Adam, I've always liked Kotteras' power and OBP potential. His defense definitely looks better this year, too. Having said that, he's a guy that likely won't get over-exposed with 150 at bats this year, but might with 200-250. I don't get why whenever a fringe player is doing well, you and several others immediately think of dealing them. Sometimes even in a part-time role they have more value to us than they can bring in a trade. Those moves may also leave holes on our current roster. Why trade him for an A-ball fringe-prospect?
  17. Rogers and Anundsen on the hill...flashback to 2009?
  18. wow, Greinke has thrown two clear strikes (on tv and pitch fx), including the 1-2 pitch to the 2nd hitter. Hart with a terrible route, but ump whiffed on a clear strike 3.
  19. perhaps, WV Brew, but both had only one way of making the team--a Brewer injury. Given that their chances were near zero percent, can't be too big of a let down. I'd focus on the good experience of being in big league camp that long
  20. Interesting that Gamel has been everything I expected and hoped for. He's probably made at least 6 or 7 picks that Fielder rarely would have made. So far so good
  21. His voice is very old school and I really don't like it. I liked the lighter, more pleasant tones of Powell, Provus, and Vasgersian. They had unique voices. Block sounds too plain and boring. I feel like I'm listening to a typical baseball announcer....and I think the Brewers have always been unique for having "different" announcers. Of course, Ueck rubbed off a lot the others....perhaps he'll rub off on Block
  22. I thought Dishon was basically our most toolsy outfielder not named Davis or Richardson. Lots of projection, little refinement. Shaw really off to a nice start at Brevard. I disagree with other sentiments, as that team has decent talent in Shaw, Walker, Hawn, Zarraga, and several others. With a good season, several could really jump onto the prospect radar. And what's nice is all know how to walk.
  23. looking at Baker's minor league numbers, he's had better numbers as a reliever. I assume he goes to the pen when Rogers returns
  24. the Brewers don't typically promote players due to performance until June/July. So they'll be there for a while unless there are injuries
  25. interesting read. I was a bit surprised when Niekro (Lance) retired suddenly, given that he had just converted to pitching. I remember teasing him in the Fall League that he had the family trademark. Each day he warmed up by throwing the knuckler, and guys couldn't catch it.
