  1. Coach, with Angel doing fine in AAA (not thriving, but holding his own), what would you like to see for a timeframe with him getting to the majors? I assume he'll once again be a Sept callup. While knowing the person, you'd love to see him in MLB right now. But knowing what he needs to work on, do you think he's better off with another 1/2 or full season in AAA? At this point I would imagine Angel comes to Milwaukee in Sept followed by the AFL.
  2. Great move as Weathers still has good stuff and great numbers. He's instantly a late inning reliever to complement Coffey
  3. yogallardo43, there's a difference between Cabrera and Swindle. Cabrera has 2 plus pitches, Swindle none. As I said, Swindle is comparable to a guy like Shane Nance. Good enough for AAA, but no out pitch for the big leagues
  4. Personally, I hate losing out on any picks in the first 15 rounds. We need all the quality arms and OFs we can get.
  5. Al, Umps are correct on virtually every play at first base. The issue is more at the plate and at 2nd, and it appears that umps tend to error on the side of "if the ball beat them."
  6. First off, the tag didn't happen until at least his hip. Since Pudge wasn't reaching, that means he was safe. However, that's sort of the phantom tag. The real issue was Fischer sending him. I agree with Stevo that I think we've had more thrown out in frustrating outs this year than recent memory
  7. I'm just glad to see some love in this thread for Vista. I am eagerly awaiting Windows 7's release. When student teaching my computer crashed, so I sped up my purchase of a new computer. I think I ordered it one of the first 2 or 3 days Vista was available on Dell machines. After about 2 months, Dell/Microsoft had updated all the drivers to work properly, eliminating glitches. The only issue I continue to have is that I bought Office Pro and I've found Outlook '07 to be a huge disappointment. Every time I shut down Outlook and then restart it later, the preview portion doesn't work. So I click CTRL-ALT-DEL and usually find multiple instances of Outlook running. I shut them down, and then re-open Outlook. It opens properly this time. Sometimes I get the "auto-fixing" diagnostic icon in the lower right because it says Outlook failed to close properly the last time. Because of the annoyance that Outlook became, I finally just switched to using Windows Mail in June (after 2+ years of Outlook) and haven't had any problems. I personally am excited by Windows 7 because it's taking a great consumer product and making it better. It's unfortunate that Vista was slammed early on. The only flaw with the OS is that it is a bit of a resource hog.
  8. per mlb.com. He's better than several in our rotation. Is he better than Suppan or Looper? Apparently it was because he wasn't meshing well with his teammates edit-added "Vicente" to thread title.
  9. I found this site back in the beginning because AOL's fan boards were going through chaos. I think molitorfan and brewmann came with, and I'm sure there were others
  10. Swindle appears like a Shane Nance. He's got a really funky delivery but has no special pitch. He doesn't have a Mike Myers/Mitch Stetter slider or Brian Shouse's delivery, consistency, and movement. Personally, I'd try to reacquire Shouse if we need a second lefty, since he hasn't been a big part of the Rays due to injuries and performance.
  11. TheCrew, I've been on their bandwagons since...well I didn't know we had a bandwagon. Rivas' velocity and groundball nature was fun to follow starting last year, and Bowman is from that pitching rich '08 draft that has me excited.
  12. TheCrew07, I seem to recall that Robinson had TJ surgery in HS, then went to JuCo and was a DFE. Later it was a shoulder injury.
  13. Hardy is back to his old self. He has stretches (like last year starting in June) where he noticeably goes to RF a lot more. But I haven't noticed him go to RF much this year.
  14. Thanks guys...not the reactions I expected from everyone. I really don't get why the Dodgers are trying to protect Manny. Of course, maybe they're all alike. The only Dodger I liked when in the AFL was Ethier, and that's because he was an Oakland A. The Dodgers and Phillies were easily the biggest disappointments in terms of the character of their players (the only good Phillies were Danny Giese and Ryan Howard). Still, I don't like how ESPN isn't setting up the situation. They're not mentioning: 1) Brewers staff ranks worst/2nd worst (not sure if we're worst after last night) 2) Macha doesn't believe in plunking 3) Manny was barely grazed on the pitch. Manny Parra during the game even said he believes the way you pitch Manny is heaters in 4) Brewers wanted the game over ASAP 5) Fielder and Braun have been getting plunked non-stop this year 6) Mota's pitch was 3 feet from the plate. Granted last year we saw he is often several feet from the plate, it's normally not in a star's butt 7) Mota didn't look, just walked off, with a reliever already warmed up 8) Russell Martin admitted it was intentional 9) Fielder couldn't deal with it on the field because Mota ran away while Prince was waiting for an explanation on the field
  15. It couldn't hurt Scarpetta to hit A+. He's shown some glimpses and is on the 40 man already.
  16. After tonight's game, the situation apparently became very interesting. Fielder running around the tunnels in Dodger Stadium to go after Mota. Teammates and security having to restrain Fielder. Macha getting very angry with Dodgers reporters. Heck, it's the first time Macha's shown any fire, himself. Does anything think this could be the event that gets the Brewers going? They've had one good stretch of around 30 games, while the rest of the season has been full of lackluster play and poor pitching. But this could be the event which gets them fired up and playing hard. (edit: updated information in title --1992)
  17. MNBrew, mentioning Tampa has me thinking of a lineup that could feature Crawford in RF and Fernando Perez in CF. We would likely have one of the top 2 or 3 MLB centerfielders defensively and have outstanding range in the corners. We'd lose some SLG in CF and RF, but we'd likely improve in OBP in RF. The IF would have Weeks, Hardy/Hall, McGehee, and Fielder, providing solid SLG/OBP skills at all IF spots. I know it doesn't make a ton of sense, but Crawford would make the team more left-handed (a stated Melvin goal) and faster, while Perez would be one of the few capable of improving on Cameron in CF defensively while also saving plenty of money
  18. I'm a teacher that highlights lots of pages. I hate how inkjet printed pages smear even with smearless highlighters. I prefer laser printers. However, I want to get an all-in-one and injet all-in-ones run far cheaper (especially considering laser isn't color). Has anyone had success with an inkjet that they can highlight?
  19. I'd offer arbitration to all. Cameron will seek a 2 year deal or stay. Lopez will seek a 2 year deal. Hoffman may very well go back to SD or stay in Milwaukee. Looper is having a bit of a down year, but he's usually rock solid. He hasn't been the problem, he just hasn't been a solution
  20. Roderick, I've never heard that. There's the old Branch Rickey quote about needing a ton of pitching prospects just to produce one big league pitcher. In 2008 the Brewers took a ton of arms (and signed more than in any other recent draft). In 2009 they took quite a few, too. So adding those two together, there are a lot of good arms between R, R+, A, and A+. Hopefully by the end of next year we can get a few to AA so they're a short trip from the big leagues.
  21. Dbacks are dumb to buy him out. If they buy him out, he likely pitches for someone else and they're $2 million in the hole. Instead for $8.5 million they hold onto him and see if he makes it back by May. Having him is better than not. Plus, insurance likely covers part of his contract.
  22. GoMocs, I haven't seen them pitch. I may have seen Jones years ago (like 6 years ago), but I can't remember. I made my statement based on how many organizations view pitchers having success in AA as being close to MLB ready, especially for bullpen guys who only have to come in showing 1 or 2 pitches and are on the attack. So to me, by Braddock and Wooten thriving in AA, Axford thriving in AAA, and Jones holding his own (take out the 2 outings before the stomach issue), I view them as viable relievers. I am no fan of Seth McClung. He had a few good starts last year and one outstanding relief outing, but he's not a good pitcher. Villanueva may be better as a starter because then he can work off his offspeed pitches better. Hoffman may be here one year. Riske is a sunk cost. Smith isn't a great option. I'd rather give these guys a chance than go out and sign more David Riske's. Tayor, Bando, and Melvin were great at assembling cheap pens until recently. Our bullpens haven't been good in a few years. But we used to cheaply acquire guys like Fetters, DeJean, Leskanic, Fox, Jones, Wickman, Lloyd, Shouse, Coffey, etc. As someone said in another thread, we haven't hit on many of those guys lately (just Coffey). I'd rather try to piece together a pen with these AA/AAA pitchers with velocity (or command, with Wooten). They're cheap and replaceable, whereas Riske is only the latter
  23. The Dbacks' are looking to unload Snyder. He's rather expensive given his production level. It has me a bit bummed, because 3 or 4 years ago I was lobbying for the Brewers to acquire Montero, as he was my favorite player in the AFL. He's such a high energy, rah-rah player that everyone loves him. Snyder could be acquired, or the Crew could do what the Dbacks did with Snyder and Montero by letting Lucroy and Salome split time at catcher. let them each catch around 81 games. They likely won't be over-exposed in the big leagues, but they also won't be rotting away on the bench. I'm sick of catchers going 120+ games
  24. I'd rather trade Hardy and Hart for pitching and a RF while allowing Hall to be the SS. The reality of it is that if we're going to pay Hall's contract, he might as well play for us. If he plays well, we deal him in July '10. If he plays poorly, we release him. Either way, it gets Escobar to the big leagues in mid '10.
  25. nope. He's actually got me more excited now, as his defense in the big leagues was much better than advertised. I also loved how patient he was. The trick is that he needs to learn what to do with heaters on the inner half of the plate. I don't feel like looking it up, but I seem to think his first callup was far more productive than Jenkins' first.
