  1. X, that trade is similar to what I have thought would work. I would tweak my proposal a bit: Escobar, Lawrie, Butler (as PTBNL, since injured now), Cain, and perhaps a reliever like Axford. I'd consider adding McGehee if they'd throw in Rolen while taking Hall. With the savings they'd be getting by cutting loose Halladay and Rolen, they could easily afford Hall for 1.5 years.
  2. That's a very tough question. If Hardy were willing to sign an extension for around 4 years $25-35 million, then that makes Escobar trade bait. If the Brewers view McGehee as legit, then Gamel could be trade bait. Personally, I'd rather more Escobar and try to extend Hardy if at all possible.
  3. Stevo, my understanding is that AZ views Haren as a part of their longterm plans. Additionally, they are looking to sign Doug Davis to an extension
  4. so who bought Candi, the USB powered pole dancer?
  5. god bless woot-offs and Brewers games at 9:30 am when I'm a teacher on summer break!
  6. Guys, TH will get to the bottom of it if it's a problem. His notes section is on Sundays (written on Saturdays), and he likely didn't have word from Brewers officials yet.
  7. Also interesting to note that that Jones has been very efficient with pitches lately. He's been going 6+ innings with pitch counts in good enough shape that he could have gone at least one more inning. Heck, even before all his arm injuries he wasn't racking up the strikeouts, so this is impressive. Besides that one bad stretch maybe 6 weeks ago, his command has been great this year.
  8. yeah jhart, Kendall's glove was almost behind the batter. I haven't seen such an obvious beaning since Sheets used to throw at Bonds.
  9. Wow, Dykstra's 1st season + has been awful. Let's hope he can finish strong, but he's more on the Josh Murray path than the JJ Hardy path.
  10. as a teacher I've seen some horrible situations where great kids are put in desperate situations. It's troubling, because it seems that more often than not, the parents are out to screw over the other parent more than they are looking out for the betterment of the child.
  11. The Crew, I would argue that Gamel's offense and defense deserved to play more than sporadic at bats. He drew quite a few walks, played far better defense than expected, and--most importantly--was healthy (unlike Counsell and McGehee with their balky knees). Hitting around .250 with an obp of .340+ is just fine for his first tour in the big leagues.
  12. At this point I would expect Gamel to AAA with Counsell and McGehee sharing time there.
  13. I happen to really like Gamel's eye at the plate. He's so calm and has drawn a number of good walks. I don't know if we know if McGehee can keep it up. Just a few weeks ago, the stats folks were claiming he was the same player as Adam Heether.
  14. wow, Anundsen with a near miracle, trying to get out of a situation in the 4th. Single, single (1st and 2nd), sac bunt (2nd and 3rd), walk (sets up DP), FC out at home, SINGLE (2 runs), strikeout
  15. Okay, so this Even Anundsen tour of duty in the FSL is getting comical. 3 VERY GOOD innings so far today with 5 punchouts
  16. and as for Randy Winn, does he need a bounce back? Last time I checked, he was having a typical year
  17. You mean like Magglio and the difference in their contracts for this year, with some cash covering next year, too?
  18. lcbj68c, Looper isn't under contract for next year. I'd hardly call him a mistake as well
  19. derflotr, I was trying to create a package without Gamel and Escobar. My idea featured some MLB talent (Hardy, McGehee), AAA players on the cusp (Cody, Axford), AA players that some feel are AAA ready (Butler, Cain), and a blue chip starting prospect in Peralta. In trying to rebuild, they could do a lot worse.
  20. Hart Gamel Braun Fielder McGehee Cameron Hardy Pitcher Kendall That's my primary lineup. Counsell should start 2-3 days a week, but not more as he's starting to wear down.
  21. I didn't know the ESPY's still existed. Heck, I hardly know ESPN still exists. The MLB Network is for me
  22. Escobar isn't like Castillo...Iribarren is. Escobar is like Ozzie Smith after he improved his hitting at the big league level
  23. Also, I just realized that they would be combining to add around $26 million in payroll to the club in '10. Take away the Hardy estimated salary of around $6-8 million and Looper's contract being off the books, and you have a net addition of roughly $10-12 million, which is likely doable.
  24. It'd be interesting to see what kind of value Braddock, Peralta, or Anundsen would add to a trade. I'd love to keep Parra. As for Hardy, I like his power, but our whole team is built on power (minus catcher). Therefore, I'm happy to view Escobar's OBP and ignore Hardy's SLG. Of course, we could also attempt to let Hall play SS for a few weeks, hopefully to build some trade value for him in the offseason (in a salary swap). My offer: Hardy McGehee Cody Peralta Axford Cain PTBNL for: Halladay Rolen The Blue Jays would be landing a stud SS. They'd also be landing a promising offensive/defensive 3b under contract control for 5 more years and at a fraction of the cost of Rolen. Lorenzo Cain gives them a promising prospect that scouts tend to love (although I've never been high on). Peralta gives them a stud starting prospect that is several years removed from surgery. Cody gives them a solid back of the rotation prospect that just gets results. Axford gives them a power relief prospect. And the PTBNL would be Josh Butler, another middle of the rotation starting prospect. Yes, I realize that McGehee and Axford are former castoffs. But their values now are rather high. McGehee is showing he's a valuable defender at 2b/3b with offensive potential and an affordable contract. Brewers new lineup: 2b Counsell/Hall/Iribarren SS Escobar/Counsell/Hall 3b Rolen Gamel has done well for the Brewers, but putting him in AAA helps create depth, especially since Macha has shown no affinity for him.
  25. I'd love to add Halladay and Rolen, but I just can't come up with a fair package either either, let alone both
