  1. He throws hard and gets some K's. I expect him to be a key member of our pen this year. Being off the 40-man gives roster flexibility, but he'll be back
  2. I'm baffled that people will bash Wal-Mart for undercutting mom and pop stores, and for it's predatory practices in general.....while they buy things from Amazon.com whose CEO has openly stated his intention to sell everything to everyone, without profit being a consideration.
  3. djoctagone, you could say that Rickie Bones got us Bob Wickman. We got Bones for Sheffield. That adds another wrinkle.
  4. Dawson did play in the first game. Still, Not sure what to say. They looked solid last night. They had about 2 bad stretches in which they were outscored 8-0 or worse, and that was the difference. I didn't see Juan Anderson breaking the press...I saw Carlino, Du. Wilson, and Sandy Cohen. The team may not have much height in the front-court, but their backcourt sure is big. Also, we need to get Burton going. Of course, he needs to not foul everyone
  5. Pretty sure that Samsung and Panasonic have the best rated ones last time I checked on Cnet. I don't hear many people praising Sony like I did in the 90s
  6. Josh, you've had some great success with having minor leaguers reach the big leagues with the Brewers. Just curious, but when major league negotiations are occurring with free-agency approaching, there's some things I've always wondered. If you could elaborate on a few, that would be great. 1) we often are guilty of assuming players/agents want the absolute top dollar for their players. Do you find players are more after the best fit or best salary? 2) When evaluating cities, do you or players ever consider the tax differences or costs of living? For instance, CC Sabathia's first deal with the Yankees was for roughly 1 year and $40 million more than the Brewers offered. Some speculated that given his expected housing and school expenses for his family in NYC, along with the taxes, the difference was far less than $40 million 3) We are probably way too proud of Wisconsin (although I split my time in AZ and MT now). Do players find Wisconsin boring, or do they appreciate our unique small-town feel where players are worshipped in public?
  7. Wow, I would have thought maybe 3 years, $35-40 million. I guess they have to overpay a bit to attract talent to Canadia
  8. oops, WV Brew is right. Logan wasn't talked about much in the minors. I think he battled injuries and was overshadowed a bit by Komatsu from his draft class, but it appears 2 of his minor league seasons were nice.
  9. Given that 68 teams make the NCAA tourney, I see no reason why MU can't make a run as the 3rd or 4th Big East team. NIT is possible, but he should be able to find 17-20 wins to put them on the radar.
  10. comparing him to Schafer might be unfair to Wren. Logan really had what, 1 good year in the minors? He was promoted based on skills and talent rather than on performance. I could still see him being a solid 4th OF
  11. Really looking forward to the start of this MU season. I don't get the negativity. Yes they did poorly last year, but most players were very good recruits. I'm curious which player will have the Wes Matthews-like breakout (aka, the guy that will thrive when under a new coach). I could see Juan, JuJuan, or STj fitting the bill
  12. What free agent--likely a Boras client--will settle for a 1 or 2 year deal with us around Groundhogs Day?
  13. I would imagine we may try to flip a minor league 1b for a AAA reliever. I could see us re-signing K-Rod for around 1 year $6-8 million with incentives based on games finished. 2 years $12-16 million is possible as well.
  14. I always felt bad for Dillard. Didn't he break his hand barehanding a comebacker, and lost velocity? Before the injury he was throwing a heavy 96 mph sinker. After he was barely touching 90 and converted to a side-armer
  15. Reynolds or Rogers could be an option. I think most likely is Lucroy, as the Brewers have been talking about trying to get Maldy in more games.
  16. In baseball, to hire him as our Scouting Director only, we would have had to negotiate with the Dbacks. Since we're giving him a promotion, that wasn't necessary
  17. Josh, good for Taylor. He still has a strong chance to contribute. His set of skills (lefty, OBP, etc) make him a strong candidate for 1b/3b.
  18. Any chance that Victor Martinez wants to play the field rather than DH'ing all the time?
  19. Patrick, that's not a political commentary. It's an economic commentary and a commentary on government regulators. But in no way is it Republican-Democrat. 1992casey, I've heard the shipping part is nice. My brother subscribes to it. Is it an annual fee? I can't imagine how much someone would have to buy for "free" shipping. I know that my sister-in-law orders a lot for herself and my niece, but I'm just curious if the $99 actually helps you come out ahead.
  20. I can't buy stuff from Amazon or support Prime at this point in time. They care about one thing, and that's market share. The result is they undercut competitors. Everyone who protests Wal-mart needs to protest Amazon as they're a worse offender. I still can't fathom why the gov't sued Apple for trying to create a market for e-books that allowed for competition and more money going to publishers and authors. Yes they wanted to raise prices, but that's because Amazon was selling books at low prices and holding publishers hostage. It was predatory pricing, but the gov't's lawyers don't understand how Amazon is attempting to re-invent the economic theory of how monopolies price goods.
  21. Should Davis really be a lock for starting in LF? I like him because he's cheap, but that's about it. And to the poster that called Aoki and Hart re-treads....if they're bad players I'd get it. If they're good players, we should always want them back.
  22. adamb100, the NFL does. Every game is available over the air for local teams.
  23. SRB, you can check out every post I made. I was always a Yost supporter. I loved his fire. People soured on him because of his awkward post-game press conferences. He is a great manager for a young team. I'll bet given what Mark knows know, he wouldn't fire Ned. Macha's teams were awful. It was the least exciting seasons I've seen, despite solid talent. I had fun watching crappy teams in the 90s, but couldn't bear to watch his squads.
  24. Patrick, I'm not sure you can stream at all to Roku. With apple, it's extremely easy via Airplay. We use our Apple TV all the time. I've never had a desire to try Android devices, so I can't say how they work with boxes. Really, this HBO move is something I've dreamt of for a long time. I'm so glad we're about to start getting a la carte TV. The cable/satellite companies serve no purpose with regard to video service anymore. Cable companies are fearing HBO and ESPN going a la carte because they like taking our money for both cable and internet, when we should be able to use the internet to directly get channels without the middle man
  25. Ken Macha was mentioned, so I need to jump in. Yes, Ned is our best recent manager...perhaps the best since Scrap Iron. Macha might not be worst, but that's because Lopes/Royster were in there. Yost had many fine qualities, but like every other fanbase in baseball, they thought their manager was awful. The only manager I truly hated was Macha...I saw no redeeming qualities. I loved Yost's rotation handling, fire, and no-nonsense approach.
