  1. That would be my argument for the people blaming the pitching issues on Chris Hook. It isn't Hook's fault that the pitchers have been so horrible hitting their spots, and that it seems like every time they miss, it is a meatball down the middle. Well, it is a mechanical thing. That is Hook's job to get his pitchers mechanics right. I was quick to give him a Hook the other night as our pitching coach but it has been that bad so far. I mean, all pitchers regressed? I agree with you on Hook. If it were one or two guys who were simply having off seasons then it would be more acceptable. One month into a season though and having every starter other than Davies look pretty terrible and all relievers looking worse than last year makes you wonder about Hook's ability.
  2. Brew Crew are a pretty big mess right. Can't pitch. Can't hit. Regardless of who they are playing, it's been a pretty ugly, disappointing and frustrating week.
  3. Please call Stearns and get him to make this deal.
  4. Ed Sedar you stink as a 3B coach. Please reassign him to another area of the organization.
  5. FWIW, Robert Murray of The Athletic had Q&A today and he was asked about the difference between Johnson and Hook and he summarized it as Johnson being stronger at pitch sequencing and Hook being stronger at mechanics. This seems to fit the narrative specifically with Burnes, Peralta and Woodruff. I have to think sorting out sequencing is an easier remedy than mechanics. Let's hope its as simple as that.
  6. Is the current Chris Hook different than the Chris Hook that worked with these guys for years in the minors, where they saw large degrees of success? Hook isn't the reason Burnes and Peralta are missing their spots. Maybe not but the trips to the mound really haven't helped nor have they made adjustments between starts. Have to believe its a combination of mechanics (which Hook should be helping with) and confidence (which really comes down to the pitcher).
  7. I am not really sure what the best option is here. The arms will eventually have to be in the rotation but both Burnes and Peralta look like they are boom or (mostly) bust right now. Problem is who do you start in their place given Guerra and Anderson aren't stretched out? I am beginning to wonder if the issue isn't Chris Hook. He really doesn't seem to have much of an answer to assist these guys.
  8. LOVE LOVE LOVE Arcia's defense. I cannot overemphasize this. My issue with him is his lack of recognition where he is hitting in the lineup. You're hitting 8th, in front of the pitcher, and the free swinging in that position is completely unnecessary. His chase rate at balls out of the zone needs to be improved. If his OBP could just climb over .300, even if he is only hitting .230, he's a regular for a decade at SS.
  9. Would be a tough pill to swallow given he might only give you 2 1/2 seasons for $45 million but if he is anything close to what he has been, that pen looks infinitely better. If Jeffress turns out to be OK and Brewers can add Knebel in for the second half of 2020, that pen is scary good. A 6th through 9th of Hader, Claudio, Jeffress, Knebel and Kimbrel is pretty intimidating.
  10. Interesting thought. I wonder if that money is available or if it were spent elsewhere. Perhaps the Maryvale renovation.
  11. Count me as someone who wants Will Smith back in Milwaukee. However, with the Giants designating him as their "closer", I am guessing they will be holding him until the deadline the hope of maximizing his value. While I would think Stokes and Grisham for Smith is fair now, by the deadline I am guessing the Brewers would have to offer Ray and others as I expect Smith to be that good this season.
  12. If Kimbrel truly wants 6 years $100 million still then he will be waiting the rest of his life. That ship has sailed. If I were his agent, I am HOPING 4 years $60-$70 is still realistic. Count me as one of those who has a hard time believing the Brewers offered only $10 million per as that is significantly less than what his rumored 6 year $100 million ($16.7 m per) ask was. At this point in the offseason, 1 year at $18-$20 or 3 years $50-60 seem to be about right.
  13. Robert Murray's article in The Athletic today leads me to believe the Kimbrel thing has come and gone. I am planted firmly on this being extremely unlikely to happen.
  14. Hopefully that's the case, but in reality it could be a bunch of factors. Perhaps Kimbrel's health isn't where it should be? Perhaps he's still asking for too much $$$ or too many years. Perhaps the Brewers met with him and determined he wouldn't be a fit. The fit is certainly there on paper, but there are so many variables that we don't know. Totally agree. Perhaps the oddest thing about the entire Kimbrel situation was that McCalvy wrote the article with quotes from Ryan Braun and Mike Moustakas about the Brewers potentially adding Kimbrel. Definitely seemed like a foregone conclusion they would be adding him given Milwaukee writers' propensity to not report on potential FA acquisitions until they are actually signed, sealed and delivered.
  15. Is the fact that Kimbrel hasn't been signed any indication of Corey Knebel's outlook? Hopefully, the Brewers have received relative good news as it relates to Knebel's ability to pitch through the partial tear (given he has done it the past 4 years).
  16. Interesting option to pick up. Familiarity with Counsell and usage in the pen may be helpful but I am not sure whose place he would take if he were to be brought in. You have to figure the following: -Hader, Claudio, Guerra are locks -Anderson, Albers, Barnes and Williams are relatively safe Leaves Wilson. I gotta say, unless it's Kimbrel, you may just be shuffling chairs between Wilson and Jennings.
  17. I wonder if the delay is Kimbrel holding out for a multi year deal and the Brewers holding firm at one. As a side, the journalist reporting this is followed by Jon Morosi, for whatever that’s worth.
  18. I just posted a Jeffress update. It's possible that his pen session wasn't public. There is info on Nelson's minors start today all over Twitter from McCalvy. Of course there is nothing on the Kimbrel negotiations. Why in the world would they make anything from that public before it does or doesn't happen? One of two reasons: 1. The deal is done pending some minor contract language clarifications. 2. Kimbrel’s camp leaked it to get other teams interested I honestly believe #2 is the reason.
  19. Is this good news (that he has pitched with this for awhile) or bad news (that there is a slight tear)?
  20. 4th rounder. At the end of this article: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2019/03/19/brewers-have-reached-out-reliever-craig-kimbrel-but-no-deal-close/3220010002/
  21. After thinking on this for a few hours, call me skeptical. I don’t recall any of Stearns moves being leaked without an almost immediate signing or trade. If this isn’t announced by morning, I will believe that this was leaked by Kimbrel’s camp to up the offer from another team.
  22. Wow...I am all for this. Does it make sense to develop Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta in rotation in 2019 if you know you have Hader, Knebel, Jeffress and Kimbrel in the pen?
  23. Isn't this more of an indictment of the front office rather than signing an all-time great to a long term contract? Look at what this franchise has done over the past decade. Signing Josh Hamilton. Signing a 31 year old Pujols to a 10 year deal was an enormous mistake. Signing Matt Harvey and Cody Allen this year. Being unable to develop a farm system. All these reek of just bad management. Now imagine Stearns in Orange County, working within the framework of a $150-$200 million payroll.
  24. The lack of clarity on this situation is really hamstringing my fantasy baseball team. I have Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta and Nelson all currently awaiting the final results of camp. While we know Nelson will be in the minors, a stash on the IL will be welcome!
