  1. I bet that the utter dominance on the offensive boards versus UVA was a specific strategic point by Gard. If a team will barely even threaten to play in transition, it only makes sense to crash the boards as much as possible on the offensive end. For years, Bo would forego offensive rebounding for the sake of transition defense, but if you are playin a team that almost refuses to play in transition, what's the point in getting back so soon? Go get the rebound.
  2. Uhm. So what is "Termination pay?" Sounds like something a lot less than the actual salary.
  3. This might very well end up being the case...but this team won the central w/o Woodruff last year. Ashby is coming back. Right now it is still a "run it back" situation (as long as the Canha/Santana roles can be filled or better yet improved). With improvement from the youngsters and a nice FA signing or two this is still very much a competitive team...meaning it's likely they make the postseason.
  4. Post-game/sideline impulsive profanity laced rants have there place in a limited Tommy LaSorda or Jerry Burns kinda way...but an introductory press conference?! I think it's just a little weird, actually.
  5. This is where I'm at. I don't believe his contract is guaranteed, so if he lights it up in ST and impresses the staff/FO maybe he makes the roster. Now, why we traded anything for him is a little weird...clearly we had targeted him as a wanted commodity, so I dunno. Hope for the best I guess.
  6. The strange games continue vs Robert Morris. Nothing to really complain about other than RM sticking around for too long and a too close winning margin-- but honestly their 3 point shooting was just ridiculous and ours sucked. Normalize those percentages and it's a 20 point win. The strangeness was in the rotations and playing time. Last game, Isaac Lindsey was the back-up PG and McGee didn't get off the bench. This game it was the opposite...except Hepburn and McGee ran together in order to more effectively guard RMs perimeter guys. McGee was +17 in his 17 minutes. Has Max Klesmit been sick? Just a complete nothing burger from MK. There are a lot of interesting pieces with this team, but probably not enough complete pieces to put 5 guys on the floor without significant holes. This leads to Gard needing to mix and match every game to find the magic sauce to get a W. Some nights it will work and some nights will look ugly. A good opportunity awaits in Fort Myers to get a couple of power 5 victories under their belt.
  7. Johnny Davis was never an upperclassmen.
  8. To me, this is the most concerning part about Gard, at least when compared to his predecessor. Guys like Jordan Taylor, Jon Leuer. and Frank Kaminsky were more the norm than the anomaly under Ryan. Everybody who played for him was significantly stronger, better and more skilled as upperclassman than as freshmen. It's been awhile since even ONE guy has progressed as well as say...Vitto Brown or Zac Showalter did.
  9. You know folks, there is always a chance that CC is letting the Cubs pay him significantly more than any other manager in history purely to submarine their team for as long as he is there. That, my friends, would be epic loyalty (a little too epic...sleeper cell spies creep me out even if it's effective and would make a good movie). Then again, it's only baseball😎
  10. Really?! Huh. I always thought the opposite. Baseball is all about being cool and calm...(unless the umpires are involved). CC always seemed like a nervous nelly to me. Constantly looking like he is agonizing over every little thing, lots of exasperated headshakes and furrowed brows and wildly throwing sunflower seeds at his face the hit his mouth with maybe a 90% hit rate. I've always loved his results though and 99% of his decisions, so didn't really care about the body language stuff.
  11. @Providence. On the 3rd game of the season. 4 days after losing at home the Tennessee. This season is going to be just as stupidly dramatic as last season. That's why college basketball is the best. Every game matters...yet it doesn't REALLY matter...cuz you'll play another game to redeem yourself in like 3-5 days. And for the Badgers, I get the feeling 25 more toss-ups are coming out of the next 30 games, and then every game after that they are lucky enough to win. This game almost feels bigger after that loss on Friday though. 1-2 isn't a good start, and the schedule doesn't exactly get softer.
  12. I don't know what this means...We would be beyond stupid to not listen to calls, but we'd be equally beyond stupid to shop him at any cost. There is an argument that his value will be HIGHER at the trade deadline that it will be in the offseason. I guess you are worried that we would "go for it" this year by keeping everybody, making a poor FA signing or two and then win 88 games yet have 2% chance of getting to the WS let alone win it. And in the process we lose Burnes and Adames for zilch. That's only slightly concerning to me. I just don't think Adames or Burnes is going to get much in return this offseason, I have higher hopes for a better return at the deadline--especially when combined with the minimal chances of everything breaking right and making a miracle run in the postseason and getting some high draft picks.
  13. They are more likely to compete in '24 than in '25 and they are more likely to compete in '26 than '25, and they are more likely to compete in '24 than '26. Next year is the "go for it" year...until the deadline, at which point it will be the "sell it ALL" year. If they sell mid-season it would likely be a set-up to compete in '26 at the earliest...maybe later. No matter what happens I'm pretty sure '25 is the complete re-build year.
  14. Storr and Winter are bad defenders...they are both young and have the capability to be good defenders but they just got abused by a team full of grown men who know how to play basketball. There is more offensive capability on this team than any Badger team since '15. The increase in pace is interesting and something I'm just not used to after the last 30 years of Badger ball. I don't have a problem with it if they can hold up on the defensive end...unfortunately I don't think they have enough horses to consistently push it AND play with the defensive intensity necessary to...say...win the B1G. Both Tennessee and Ark St played hyper aggressive on the ball one on one extended defense, which made driving the ball necessary. It will be fun to play a team like Virginia that will pack it in and slow everything down and see how we adjust. The lack of open 3 pointers is almost weird...I guess basketball is cyclical and the 3 ball has been SO prominent the last dozen years perhaps the pendulum is swinging away from the perimeter. It should be a fun year.
  15. Sure, Ostentatious...but can Arnold do something that "moves the needle?" Maybe we can get Jeimar Candelario? You need to be less reasonable and more reactionary.
  16. I haven't read this entire thread, but the fact the the Cubs poached him from a division rival is very important. I don't think CC is a worth $8M/yr. However, the Cubs are paying him to NOT be the Brewers manager, and that is very significant. If CC was a Kansas City native and had been the Royals manager I don't think the Cubs offer him that package (much like NY didn't offer him that package).
  17. Well. Maybe Nolan Winter is a straight arrow but impressionable. Maybe Gus is influential. Gus got in trouble for being a college kid....but clearly not a very bright college kid. It's not hard to not get ticketed by the police for being a college kid in Madison unless you are obnoxious about it. He's a basketball player so he is going to have a microscope on him...ESPECIALLY as a freshmen. ONCE is dumb...TWICE is inexcusable and something needs to be done about it, like a leave of absence/counseling/etc.
  18. Well, to name names, I like Penix Nix and Sanders more than Mccarthy or Ewers.
  19. There are more than 2 QBs in this draft....quite a few more, actually, so I wouldn't advocate for trading up to get Williams or Maye.
  20. That seemed like a throw away game. Neither "team" played anything resembling a team basketball game...it was much closer to Saturday morning at the REC or an AAU game than a DI basketball game. No team defense on either side, but there were some decent offensive players and thus a whistle fest/free throw fest. We had the majority of better players so we won easily, but Hicks and Fields had their own advantages at times. If we play this way in the B1G we'll go 7-13. It's not all negative though. Obviously, Storr and Blackwell and even Winter definitely look like they belong, and that's really important as the rest of the roster is a known commodity. If the defense comes together this team has a very high upside. If it doesn't, it has a very low downside...
  21. Yikes. Interesting half. No issues with the offense other than the missed FTs. The defense leaves a lot to be desired, however. Had Ark St. not gifted us multiple TOs it would be a tight game.
  22. Game Day!!
  23. That was a terrible call last night, and consequential as it took Buffalo out of FG range. I always thought that the QB had to be in danger of being sacked...otherwise quite literally every time a QB kills the clock with a spiked ball he should quite literally be called for "intentional grounding" (although it wouldn't really be much of a penalty since they'd only lose a yard or two),
  24. Re-sign him as a player/manager... saves the $$$ that would go to Counsell or another manager and justifies overpaying for his services on the field.
