  2. I didn't look into the details of that specific trade, it was just an example of something to get the discussion started, The main point is that Woodruff is not likely to be extended--so what is the best way to deal with an asset like that? And when? What WOULD it take? (ALSO: The thread title isn't mine...It was meant more of a "What to do with Brandon Woodruff?" topic rather than a "should we trade him now for hitters?" topic. No worries though--just a clarification)
  3. Remember that the WS champion last year won because they picked up Eddie Rosario, Joc Pederson and Jorge Soler. Basically guys the caliber of Renfroe or Avi Garcia.
  4. Those guys are cheaper than Woody yet still very good and at least Lauer and Small we'd have under control a lot longer. Woodruff would command a much higher trade return as well as save more money in the coming years. What I DO know is that there is almost NO way the Brewers extend Woodruff. And if they can't/aren't going to extend him then you have to think about trading him at some point. Right now might be the best time to sell high...
  5. With the success of Ashby and Lauer and even Ethan Small there is a part of me that wants to shop Woodruff around to get some help for the offense. This is probably more than a bit early, as with 2 more years of arby after this one it makes more sense to play it out this year and shop him in the offseason--but if Boston called and offered Devers and Tristan Casas for Woody and Turang/Mitchell I'm not hanging up on them... Thoughts?
  6. He's got the ball...after getting crossed up a few times you'll agree to just give him the sign he wants.
  7. I didn't read this thread, but I saw that the "Brewers offense 2022" thread was really long and I KNEW I didn't want to read that one, so this one seems like it should get some posts. On pace for 101 team wins. Not bad.
  8. The starting Designated Hitter for the defending Champion Atlanta Braves tonight? Orlando Arcia If Arcia was ever our DH this forum would explode against Stearns....unless of course we were the defending champions...
  9. LOL. Both those numbers are absurd.
  10. Oakland is clearly cleaning house. Throw them an offer for Sean Murphy and Ramon Laureano. I don't know what it would take to get them, but they'd be nice to have right now. Obviously need a C and I don't really like our OF defense right now (Cain is perpetually almost injured)
  11. It sounds like this happened during the lockout. If he wasn't getting tested perhaps he didn't care--there was far from a guarantee of there being Spring baseball this year. I don't know how long it's in the system, and I don't know when he was tested but there are at least plausible timeframes that make this just a stupid mistake but not an egregiously negligent one (assuming it WAS an innocent-ish mistake)
  12. Alfaro is raking this Spring though...to the point of maybe making the team as a third C/OF. Any of the other guys mentioned would probably be fine too. Basically I just want a guy who won't lose games because of his defense and hits lefties better than a pitcher in order to give Omar a couple days off per week. It would be nice if Feliciano is that guy, but will he not lose games behind the plate?
  13. What would it take to get Pineapple back from Atlanta?
  14. Dave Dahl vs Jace Peterson is an interesting battle. In the traditional NL I think Peterson runs away with that roster spot based on his obvious positional versatility. However, with the DH I think it's more important to have a lefty DH bopper or pinch hitter a la Vogelbach or Dahl now rather than a lefty jack-of-all-trades like Peterson. It's too bad though. I'd rather give roster spots to athletic all-around baseball players in their prime like Hernan Perez and Jace Peterson than one dimensional sluggers like David Dahl, but I guess the MLBPA disagrees.
  15. I find this a little bit odd in that we HAVE signed a big name young MVP player to a long term extension....and that is easily the WORST move of Stearns' career. I'm not saying it was a bad move at the time--however it's comforting to realize that there is actually a significant downside to signing FAs to huge contracts. There is little to no downside to developing an excellent scouting staff combined with an intelligent GM and FO that can assemble a ridiculous amount of cheap young talent that can win year after year after year. ESPECIALLY when you CAN take your shots and sign a Ryan Braun or Christian Yelich long term, and then fill in with short to medium contracts for all-stars like Cain, Moustakas, Grandal, etc. Hopefully Yelich rebounds in a big way this year..
  16. It's never too early to start worrying on the internet.
  17. Back in the olden days (like 5 years ago), you could just wait until halftime of the first game (or even later) of the session and get deeply discounted tickets from scalper on the street. I don't know how well that works now with mostly digital tickets. I think I've read about some online secondary ticket site that specialized in selling super discounted tickets late, but I don't know what the name of it was.
  18. As others have mentioned, with the DH the need for defensive versatility goes WAY down and the need for specialized platoon bench bats goes WAY up (obviously it's better to have a guy who can hit lefties and righties and play D, but those guys are starters and expensive), McCutcheon is a good PH and occasional DH.
  19. 1) NW WI 2) 40 3) As long as I can remember frequenting message boards....Although it took me 5-7 years or so to join and post. 4) Small High School 5) Dave Nilsson, BJ Surhoff, Scott Fletcher, Geoff Jenkins, Chuck Crim, Molitor, Bill Wegman, Cal Eldred, Pat Listach, Jeff Cirillo, John Jaha, Ben Sheets, Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Gomez, Robin Yount. Rob Deer. 6) What is Twitter? 7) none. College basketball and football. ?
  20. This is the dream seeding/scenario all things considered. Quite different than what I'm used to the past 20 years as a UW fan. So, that said I am fully expecting a loss to Colgate.
  21. Considering that the 1, 2, and 4 seeds lost to the 9th, 7th, and 5th seeds, and the 11th seed was beating the 3rd seed for most of the first half I think it's fair to say that the actual difference between the 10th seed and the tied-for-1st team is far far closer than first perception would guess. That's kind of always the way the B1G goes though, outside of maybe '15 UW, '05 UI, and '99/'00 MSU who were all clearly elite national championship type teams who were better than the rest of the conference.
  22. I hope for a 3 or 6 seed. I know it doesn't make sense, but I think they'd make the Sweet 16 with either of those seeds and could easily lose in the first round as a 4 or 5 seed. Well, it isn't so much that the odds would say that, it's more that the odds of being very disappointed are much higher as a 4 or 5 seed than a 3 or 6 seed...
  23. Well, last year UW was 14th in KenPom and got a 9 seed (not to mention the previous 20 years of being underseeded according the efficiency numbers), so maybe this year they'll make it up to them by giving them the seed their wins deserve. I'm not counting on it though.
