  1. You guys are taking the should and can't argument wayy too far. That's like saying you should be able to do anything you want in the universe but can't. You should be able to bend time but you can't. You can say that about anything. We're talking about a major league hitter dropping down a bunt, which he's done over 30 times in the past. It shouldn't be that much to ask. I know everyone hates Yuni (I do as well) but the fact of the matter is you can't really fault RR for asking Betancourt to drop a bunt down. Yes he "hasn't" done it so far this year. But they practice it everyday in BP, and he's done it a lot in his career.
  2. I think everyone feels the same about letting Yuni bunt, but is it really all on RR's shoulders? Shouldn't a MLB hitter be able to drop a bunt down without having to burn another player (2 if you use a pitcher)? If Yuni succeeded and they still lost I'm sure no one would be pointing the finger at Roenicke. Obviously I agree that Counsell would've been the better bet to PH, BUT only because RR ended up using Counsell right afterwards to pinch run anyways. Kotsay for JHJ was a bit odd, but he's favored Kotsay all year and Kotsay has come through a couple times. At the end of the day, the Brewers lost on poor execution, and defense. Not managing.
  3. If he throws hard we'll light him up ALA Tommy Hanson's first start. If he is a finesse pitcher then yeah, the bats will be quiet. Our guys like big juicy fastballs that don't move.
  4. There's no way Reyes should get that much. Crawford hadn't had near the injuries as Reyes has had. And Reyes' are very serious, as they're basically all hamstring related. Hamstring problems, on a guy whose game is built around speed and range...it's an issue. It's going to take quite a few dollars away from him.
  5. Isn't Barmes himself available?Yes, he signed on a one year deal. Unless they have an extension in place, which to me is highly doubtful considering the financial situation of the Astros.
  6. Well the CWS games were the biggest of his career thus far and he didn't have a strong showing. Criticism is warranted, though not necessarily fair. We will see next year how good he and Bradley can really be because they'll probably start in low A (just to give the Brewers fans taste) and could end up at Double A by the end of the season.

  8. Pretty optimistic there eh joepepsi? I really doubt Jose Reyes will be a Brewer next year. As far as Hairston is concerned though, if he wants to come back then I would definitely take him. Not often you get a guy that can play all of the OF and pretty much all of the IF positions as well. Totally worth it for 2-3M
  9. If Greinke's ERA and maybe wins as well (since the voters care about that for some reason) were better he would probably get a lot of votes because of that K/BB ratio. Incredible man.
  10. Although Bill Schroeder usually isn't good for much, he has pointed out in the last couple starts by Greinke that Zack was basically using just two pitches (FB and slider) in those first couple months worth of starts and was getting knocked around because of it. Now he's finally using all of his pitches and having a lot more success. Though he always seems to leave a FB right down the middle late in the game which irritates me. Gallardo does that too though I suppose. Good to see what the real Greinke looks like though.
  11. Not to be a broken record, but why is Roenicke so afraid to move Nyjer to the leadoff spot? It doesn't make sense to me. Corey Hart flourished in the #2 hole and Nyjer has all the makings of a leadoff hitter, and has leadoff before. Morgan Hart Braun Fielder McGehee Betancourt Hairston Lucroy and when Weeks back it actually looks like a lineup again Morgan Hart Braun Fielder Weeks McGehee Betancourt Lucroy It just seems to me with all the offensive struggles it would help to have a power hitter who loves fastballs, getting a lot more fastballs in the #2 hole in Corey Hart, and having an igniter at the leadoff spot in Morgan.
  12. That's fine Lithium, but I agree with others. Jungmann doesn't impress me. You don't have to be a **** to negotiate, it's not necessary. You say what Fielder says, the whole "let the chips fall where they may" philosophy. You don't say the stuff that Jungmann was saying initially. I haven't heard the kid say one thing about wanting to play for the Brewers or hoping he gets something done with them. Then you add in the fact that IMO he has faulty mechanics that will have to be changed if he wants to be successful at the MLB level and you have a guy who's probably better off not getting signed. His velocity is up and down, his command is the same, and regardless of his monster college numbers, even A ball is better than college difficulty. We'll see but a 13-15th pick, a pick in the 20's and comp picks for Fielder and possibly others next year is way more appealing than having Jungmann at this point.
  13. Obviously Rodon is a long shot because he's good and he knows he's good. But from everything I've seen about McFarland he can be had. The difficult part is that Rice is a really big time baseball school, but the Brewers are in desperate need of good prospects. This is the year they should sign them up.
  14. I just think Roenicke is trying to play matchups at 2B for now with Weeks out. As in LHH vs RHP and RHH vs LHP. Not saying it's right or wrong (considering Lopez is a shell of his 2009 form) but it is what it is. Hairston should play basically everyday with Weeks out but he's not going to. So long as they continue winning games it's not an issue. Although you do look at last night and you wonder if a different lineup would have led to less double plays and more runs.
  15. They're trying to protect their "only 6 starters" BS. My guess is De La Cruz warms up as if he was starting in about the 3rd inning and comes in after the 3rd or 4th. I highly doubt Marco can go more than three with a 50-60 pitch count, he just hasn't been effective at all lately. We'll see, but I highly doubt with De La Cruz they blow the bullpen out. It will be Estrada then De La Cruz, then Dillard if needed. If it's a close game you probably see the regulars in the 7th, 8th, 9th.
  16. Estrada isn't really stretched out anymore, I doubt he could go more than 3 innings, and if they put a pitch count on him he'll likely reach it early considering how ineffective he's been of late. I don't mind him as a long man but I think he's pretty much out of that spot starter role. They'd be better suited demoting Dillard (because they never use him anyways) and bring up a minor leaguer, then have Estrada back him. That all being said, I'm guessing Roenicke will go the 'blow the bullpen' route and use Estrada and Dillard to attempt to get through 5 innings.
  17. That columnist is a joke. He doesn't know the half of who's the 'fool' in his column. Someone get this guy a whineken.
  18. If he was RHH it would be better because he could give you a little slugging % off the bench but he's not so he's pointless considering they'll never relinquish Kotsay of his duties.
  19. Yeah count me in the boat that never wanted Furcal, even if he ends up producing for the Cards it's a gamble I didn't see the Brewers taking. He's played as a shell of himself these past couple years. As far as Komatsu goes, I don't think Gindl, Schafer or Komatsu are really big league starters, so no big deal in my book. They might contribute on a big league team, but they just don't seem to have enough power to produce at the corner spots, and I think only Schafer could play CF in the bigs. But I digress, basically I'm just saying it's a good deal for the Crew to get Hairston, and I don't really care that the Cards got Furcal.
  20. Well first off the Pirates own the Reds this year for whatever reason. Secondly, we all are saying 'they don't play a team over .500 blah blah blah', well guess what? The Reds aren't even .500 themselves. They aren't that good this year honestly, contrary to how they look when they play the Brewers. Plus they stood pat at the deadline for whatever reason. They have prospects that are 'untouchable' who are MLB ready yet, don't bring them up to the MLB. Their supposed bevy of pitching talent has collapsed on them thus far. Volquez has been ineffective all year, Arroyo sucks, Leake hasn't been nearly as good as last year, Wood sucked, Homer Bailey has sucked, Cueto's been great but was injured for a while, same with Chapman. Not saying these guys don't have talent, but it seems pretty evident to me they have a lot of #3-5 pitchers mixed with Cueto, who seems to have figured it out this year. That's not a recipe for success if you've followed the Brewers the last 5 years.
  21. Actually this team has a lot of problems scoring runs, particularly on the road. Everything else I agree with though.
  22. Stetter had surgery and is done for the year. Parra has been out all year with elbow issues, he's not going to be back either.
  23. At this point I'd be extremely surprised if they made any other deals. I still want Barmes but at this point it seems extremely unlikely.
  24. Yeah, that guy has moonwalked out of those rumors. There's a reason in the hottest rumor time of the year he backed out and hasn't said a word in 3 days.
  25. There's a good chance they're done dealing, simply because for whatever reason Ed Wade won't trade Barmes. Makes absolutely no sense to me. He can get a prospect for a one year FA to be in Barmes. Plus the Brewers would happily give them Yuni and pay his salary + buyout (which the Royals are technically paying). Not like it would matter for them, their season is already over and Yuni fits in well in that type of team. Maybe things change before the deadline tomorrow, but I doubt it. Unfortunate for the Brewers because I doubt Hairston can play significant time at SS when Yuni stops hitting so "hot" (which apparently has a different meaning for him as opposed to other hitters) then they will be screwed at SS.
