  1. A very interesting aspect to this is the battle brewing between local business owners (who make up the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce) and the local government. It appears the Chamber of Commerce is in strong favor of having the Brewers come to Gilbert.
  2. I saw this on a local Gilbert page today... The People of Gilbert Arizona: 9 NEW FACTS you want to know about the Brewers Stadium proposal: 1. Milwaukee Brewers will pay for 100% of the stadium, which is $70 million. 2. LGE, the developer who created the amazing downtown Gilbert strip, is willing to invest $90 million to build the surrounding village of restaurants, entertainment, and hotels. 3. $267 million economic benefit for Gilbert comes from just the construction of the stadium. 4. Construction of the stadium, surrounding fields and village will create around 1900 jobs. 5. $278 million in ANNUAL economic benefit for Gilbert after stadium is operational. 6. Operation of the facility and village will create around 2500 jobs. 7. When not being used by the Brewers, the practice fields will be available for youth sports and the town of Gilbert to use all year long. 8. The cost of all this to Gilbert is $3.5 million per year FIXED, which does not escalate with inflation. 9. What will go up with inflation and benefits Gilbert is the $1.5 million extra in tax revenue. Above all else, Gilbert will not have to pay approximately $750,000 for maintaining the parks that the community is going to be able to use. This, plus the $1.5 million in tax revenue is $2.25 million to the town. Tax revenue goes up over time so the gap between that and the $3.5 is not that much (less than $1 million). So I pose this question to the people of Gilbert... Where can you get a return of $278 million annual economic benefit??? I'll go one step further, even if only 1/4 of the economic impact happened, where else can you get a return of $70 million per year on a less than $1 million investment?!? I hope this sheds new light on some facts for what could be a smart business deal. Please share with friends!!!
  3. Gilbert is a GREAT location. The entire SE Valley is a "Snow Bird" haven. I am from the south side of Milwaukee, attended Milwaukee Tech HS. Marvale is comparable to putting a stadium in place of what is now Bradley Tech, identical type areas. I have lived in the Chandler area for over 20 years and it seems like every neighbor is a transplant from a Midwest town. Gilbert is looking to expand its tourism in the worst way. They have recently built places such as Top Golf, Main Event and have also rebuilt their small downtown area with new vibrant restaurants and nightlife. They already have 3 "newer" hotels within a 5 mile radius of the proposed park. Great freeway acces (the park will be nowhere near the previously mentioned US 60). They loop 202 is one of the new freeways which is easily traveled and ever expanding. For the older fans such as me, this location is about 6 miles to the east of the old Compadre stadium in Chandler with a very similar low crime, family oriented neighborhood. Very close to this proposed location is San Tan Mall, which is a huge outdoor mall with many restaurants. One mile to the west of the proposed site is an already established major shopping and restaurant area with each corner having strip malls with many restaurants. This is a SUPERB location.
  4. We've been trying to recruit a Phoenix area resident to be our correspondent for 15 years. Anybody want to walk to the Maryvale ballpark for these night games? Maryvale Game Log Defense the downfall in the 9th, and again in the 10th, you'll see (that's why we link 'em, baby) *Link Report There is a serial killer on the loose in the Maryvale area.... I'll pass
  5. Any word on why Monte Harrison got pulled for a pinch hitter in the 6th tonight? In the top half of the 6th he recorded 2 fly outs playing CF.
  6. Coulter was actually on base 4 times (hit, HBP and 2 BB's) in 5 plate appearances.
  7. Does anyone have any info on Braden Webb? Has he had his debut yet? Sorry if I missed any previous news on him...
  8. Coulter says hot since his move up to AA. 3 more hits today that included a double and 3 run HR.
  9. Reminder about the ineligibility of Latin-based players. Interesting about the rules. Yadiel Rivera (PR) went last year. He played on the same team as Ronald Guzman (DR)...
  10. I understand what you are saying Crew and don't nessarily disagree on all your points. I am somewhat biased myself as I got to know Ronald on a personal level over the last year. My point on linking the story was to show how he hit rock bottom at age 19 (oversleeping, missing team bus, getting demoted and then the accident that caused a fatality) and then found a way to turn things around in a hurry. I wouldn't bet against this kid. He has a hit tool and if he continues to develop power, he would be a nice piece for any system. As a overall baseball player he may not be considered a great athlete (especially compared to players who play up the middle), but as a 1B he would be well above average as an athlete. He has a basketball player build to him but will most likely fill out more as he continues to grow into his body. All things considered, if he is the PTBNL I wouldn't be disappointed because of the others pieces we have already received.
  11. Actually Ronald Guzman is a very good athlete, especially for a 1B. Very flexible and good quickness for someone his size. Has great range on throws to 1B and can go into a full splits. Has only attempted 25 steals in his minor league career but has been successful on 20 of them. Has 5 triples already this year and 15 in his minor league career. I see a kid who is maturing at an impressive rate since the horrific accident he was involved in when he was 19. It was obviously a life changing moment for him. He now is a 21 year old in AAA. Whether he ends up a Brewer or not, he is the type of kid I am rooting for. http://www.star-telegram.com/sports/mlb/texas-rangers/article64426212.html
  12. Ronald Guzman would be an interesting piece. Great kid who really turned things around following the horrific accident he was involved in a few years back which included a fatality. He was very humbled by it. Our family got to know Ronald real well while he was here during his time in the AZ Fall league last year. He is driven and not spoiled by the big signing bonus he got previously. His success this season, at such a young age, does not surprise me. He is also from the same hometown as Villar.
  13. Haha very true, which is why I said they could have scored 20+ instead of 30+ Actually 15 team LOB as there was 1 HBP besides the 19 hits and 10 BB. Very nice team OBP tonight!
  14. The 15 runs scored was nice but what about the 27 LOB by Brewers hitters? Cmon boys, you could have scored 20+ tonight!
  15. I love the fact that Braun homered on the first pitch he saw from Evan Marshall. The same Evan Marshall who plunked Braun and got the big high five from then Dbacks manager Kirk Gibson.
  16. I believe he had just returned from the DL before we traded for him. He went just 2 innings in his last AA start for Frisco (which I believe was his first game back from the DL). My guess is they are just being cautious with him.
  17. What does Goldschmidt get? 10yr $400m?
  18. He is and always has been terrible. Yep... Even with a slash line of .304/.356/.513 with 17 HR's in 452 AB's as a 22 year old in AAA.
  19. Anyone remember Josh Vitters? What happened there with him? Looks like he is a free agent these days...
  20. McMahon would be an awesome pickup, but he's a pretty nice prospect already (MLB pipeline has him at #50), so he's going to cost a lot. The Rockies probably aren't going to want a veteran, so getting a third team involved would be the best way to get him. If you start talking big names - Lucroy, Peralta, etc., perhaps that's the way to make some kind of deal. Ultimately, the Rockies want to sign Arrenado to a long term deal, so McMahon would potentially be available. But Colorado would probably want to wait until such a deal is finalized before trading McMahon. Personally I would try to trade some of our younger big league pitching since they will start getting expensive when the next "wave" arrives. If you can fetch McMahon for any of Peralta, Nelson, Jungmann, etc. then I would do it. All of our top players from AA would be here by 2017 and that includes the likes of Houser, Hader, Lopez, and Wagner. Add that to Santana, Braun, Phillips, Arcia, and Reed. Add McMahon to that mix and now we are talking. Beyond these players you have the likes of Davies, Pena and Suter to give depth to the rotation. This is not even mentioning what you can get for Davis, Lind and Lucroy before then. Just my opinion.
  21. If they (the Rockies) want pieces to try and win now you could offer up Lucroy or Peralta/Lind as part of a package. Otherwise we would probably look at sending them a minor league pitcher package starting with Lopez? Not saying I would want to do either, just throwing some ideas out there.
  22. Ryan McMahon will be turning only 21 as he heads into AA in the Rockies organization. Rockies have a young star at 3b already in the majors. McMahon has hit .297 with 47 HR's and an OPS of .897 in his first 3 years of professional ball (317 games). Bats left. By all reports he will stick at 3b and has Gold Glove potential.
  23. After not walking at all in his first 20 games with Colorado Springs, Matt Dominguez now has 9 walks in his last 8 games...
  24. According to the article, the treatment was first performed on October 2nd, 2014. If it has a shelf life of 6 to 7 months, it can be managed much more properly going forward to limit the amount of time missed. Maybe have the next treatment in January 2016 and then a follow up during the All Star break during the 2016 season? They could repeat this each season thereafter and hardly any time would be missed...
