  1. Yeah, I want to go back to 48 hours ago. Freddy Peralta is a combination of tantalizing talent and frustrating inconsistency that I can’t remember from many other former Brewers starters. While he hasn’t necessarily pitched that terribly this inning, Peralta has definitely labored.
  2. I’m surprised they were shifting Sogard so significantly. He goes the other way on ground balls with regularity.
  3. Sort of amazing we began the year trying to figure out where all of the outfielders would play, and by the third week of April Corey Ray has been called up and is likely to be the “next man in” if something happens to an outfielder today (depending on Garcia’s availability). Speaking of Corey Ray, has there ever been a former Brewers 1st round pick that’s on the verge of making their MLB debut with less fanfare? And trust me, I understand why.
  4. Hard to believe the Brewers don’t have anything to show for the 1st inning, but they did at least make Alzolay work a bit (22 pitches).
  5. Tyrone Taylor has had zero starts and only 11 plate appearances this year. With Avi reportedly dealing with some back tightness and Yelich not ready to come off the IL, today feels like a good day to change that.
  6. Freddy Peralta: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Adbert Alzolay: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cubs-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cubs-Brewers
  7. I don’t think they’ll consider either an option until they get some innings in at Triple-A this year, but both Miguel Sanchez and Quintin Torres-Costa could be low-key possibilities to pitch in the major league bullpen at some point later this summer.
  8. Sounds like Avisail Garcia left the game due to back tightness, but CC said he got work done on it during the game and should be okay.
  9. As we consider what moves could be on the horizon, Adam McCalvy provided this list of potential relief pitchers that are currently in the Brewers player pool... Pitchers in the player pool & on the 40: Bickford Lauer Sobotka Weigel Pitchers in the pool & not on the 40: Andrews Ashby Barker Black Crawford Francis Godley Hardy Milner Sánchez Small Torres-Costa Zimmermann
  10. 45 years ago as of this past week... On April 17, 1976 the Phillies faced a 12-1 deficit after three innings at Wrigley Field but ultimately won, 18-16, in 10 innings. Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt pounded four home runs, including the go-ahead two-run shot.
  11. So obviously this one was never in doubt today and I don’t necessarily want to pile on the disappointment even further, but the fact the Brewers can’t solve Hendricks in a year when he’s struggled mightily is concerning. They have hit some hard at least.
  12. I see a lot of folks on Twitter calling for Vogelbach to pitch, but the position player I’d be legitimately the most interested in seeing pitch is Hiura. Obviously he’d be the last possible choice, but that’d be fascinating, IMO.
  13. I think it's just a chance to get Taylor into the game and give Garcia a break. Which is great, just wanted to make sure it wasn’t due to injury.
  14. Catchers are obviously a little different than regular position players in that they can’t typically play everyday. In this instance Hendricks is pretty even against RHH and LHH, whereas both Alzolay and Arrieta are quite a bit tougher on RHH than LHH. So if Narvaez is going to sit one day in this series I would’ve picked today.
  15. [sarcasm]Well he is a certified Dodger-killer and they do have them coming up on the schedule.[/sarcasm]
  16. Guess it’s going to be a bullpen day. What a disastrous start to this series. Edit: Adam McCalvy points out this is the first game of a stretch for the Brewers where they’ll be playing 17 games over the next 17 days.
  17. Some more data on Freddy Peralta in terms of his current pitch distribution and where he currently ranks (percentile wise) among his peers in some of the various advanced stats categories.
  18. This FanGraphs article is worth checking out: Fastball Freddy’s Fast New Windup The difference in his windup from previous to current is sort of bonkers, and wasn’t something I had realized was so significant. The article gives both reasons for optimism and reasons for caution with Freddy. How he develops and performs this year is going to go a long way towards determining how good this team ends up being.
