  1. Sort of depressing that while it took Arrieta 30 pitches to get through the first inning, he’s now through four innings on just 63 pitches.
  2. Now that we’re 1/8th of the way through the season it’s fun to extrapolate current WAR (using Baseball Reference) over the course of a full season (players currently “on-pace” for the following WAR totals for the season)... Corbin Burnes: 12.0 WAR Omar Narvaez: 9.6 WAR Brandon Woodruff: 6.4 WAR Josh Hader: 4.8 WAR JP Feyereisen: 4.0 WAR Freddy Peralta: 4.0 WAR Kolten Wong: 4.0 WAR Billy McKinney: 3.2 WAR Tyrone Taylor: 2.4 WAR Christian Yelich: 2.4 WAR Avisail Garcia: 2.4 WAR It gets considerably less fun after that (no one on pace for more than 1 WAR).
  3. I’d like to see more Tyrone Taylor as well, but I think he’ll get a start on Monday or Tuesday (or both?) when the Brewers are slated to face LHP starters both nights. Arrieta has a .114 percentage difference in his OPS splits (.736 vs .622) in favor of left-handed hitters for his career, so I certainly understand wanting McKinney’s LH bat in the lineup today.
  4. It wasn’t even among the top three bad calls in terms of causing a shift in run expectancy. Cory Blaser certainly hasn’t been very good this year though, and it was a bad call at a time everyone was paying attention.
  5. Through Arrieta’s first 4 starts the Brewers were the only team to score 3 runs against him (on 4 hits and 1 walk). That was his only loss this season.

  7. Good play by Wong to finally get Sogard out after three lucky hits today.
  8. One of the biggest knocks on him in recent years is that he literally changes his swing (and pre-swing movements) constantly.
  9. Big spot for Devin Williams. Good to see him back in “high leverage”, hopefully he’s right.
  10. Nothing to show for it there, but Wong has certainly gotten in some good swings since coming back.
  11. Same here, but I think the odds were unfortunately along the lines of hoping Ed McMahon and the Publishers Clearing House folks would be knocking on the door.
  12. They’ve certainly seen Chafin a lot this year (his 5th appearance against the Crew). Score some runs here and lets go into Sunday with “Big Woo” on the mound for the season series.
  13. With Luis Urias (hopefully) due up this inning these are the exit velocities of the past six balls he’s put in play: 97.2 mph 104.3 mph 105.3 mph 86.2 mph 98.6 mph 105.9 mph Seems like he could be on the verge of breaking out a bit.
  14. Obviously the error will be on Urias, but seems like that’s one you hope your first baseman is going to be able to handle most of the time. EDIT: The scoring ruling was a base hit, apparently?
  15. Alright here we go! This is why you put [checks notes]... Tyrone Taylor in the three spot!
  16. Ended up being a productive at bat for Ray, and chases Alzolay from the game. Would certainly like to not waste a leadoff double for the second time today.
  17. I honestly would’ve just stuck with Peralta if the alternative was Corey Ray. Now please prove me wrong, Corey!
  18. IGT when the Brewers make it to the 4th inning without scoring any runs...
  19. As much as I’d like to see the Brewers in the mix for a big fish like Trevor Story, I think a solid mid-rotation starter could make a huge impact. Peralta is great when he’s on, but he’s likely going to remain a wild card from start-to-start. I know nearly every team in baseball wants more pitching, but I’d feel a lot better with one more reliable arm in the rotation.
