  1. Per Woj: Free agent G Pat Connaughton has agreed to a two-year, $8.3M deal to return to the Milwaukee Bucks Second year of the deal is a player option.
  2. Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs did a great piece on titled, Presenting a Mock Non-Tenderizing. Longenhagen examines each team’s roster and determines their non-tender candidates. He breaks the categories into “Likely”, “Tough Call”, and “Not Likely”. He takes each organizations financial situation into consideration, as well as factors like the Brewers having non-tendered 8 players the past two offseasons (which is a lot). The Brewers are listed as having the highest number of likely non-tenders (most teams have 0-2 “likely” non-tenders listed). Here is the Brewers list from the article:
  3. Via Brewers: C Mario Feliciano, RHP Alec Bettinger and RHP Dylan File have been selected to the 40-man roster, which now stands at 39.
  4. Completely agree, the Padres have a lot of intriguing young players and they aren't the guys on that list.
  5. It seems likely people are going to be very disappointed when an actual Hader takes place.
  6. Some of those packages seem like overpays. I have to assume if those proposed packages from the Braves or Blue Jays were on the table Hader would already be a member of one of those organizations. That being said, Groshans from the Blue Jays would certainly be an intriguing target, but he's also probably a year or two away from being major league ready. I would be happy enough with that proposed return from the Dodgers. Why isn't 3B/1B Edwin Rios valued more highly, is his defense terrible? He hits the ball very hard and could be a nice addition to the Brewers lineup next season. Another player from the Dodgers that intrigues me is 3B prospect Kody Hoese (age 23). Edit: Looks like Rios' high strikeout rate is probably the biggest element weighing down his value. The trade for Dominic Smith would make sense, but I think the biggest problem is the Mets can simply buy their way to a solid bullpen so Hader might not be a priority.
  7. We could feasibly move Brook Lopez, but that opens a big can of worms. John Hollinger of The Athletic had a pretty good explanation of how the Bucks can make the Bogdanovic trade (or a similar trade) still work. He also brought up a good point on whether they might be better off without the Bogdan trade (assuming Giannis still signs the supermax either way).
  8. The Padres ZiPS projections are out in case that's a thing anyone wanted to look at for any reason.
  9. The Nationals are Rochester bound (Link).
  10. I see that...Marks was on the ESPN Broadcast and he's the one guy who's saying they got just the 60th. The Atlantic said they got both and someone linked that in the first couple pages. So I don't know if they got the kid from Kentucky. He would seem to fit what the Pelicans need more than the Bucks(A Center to play next to Zion). We'll find out in the next few days, but he's not all that interesting of a prospect. He's a backup Center with limited offense. So, we'll see. The Bucks didn’t actually acquire the #42 selection as had been speculated and the player the Pelicans drafted in that spot was traded to the Hornets. The writer at The Athletic that originally was reporting it clarified last night that he was wrong (Link).
  11. From The Athletic’s article where they interviewed 5 current NBA scouts about the top 50 draft prospects (comments from the various scouts are all combined together which is why they sometimes seem contradictory): Jordan Nwora, 6-7 junior forward, Louisville. “He can be a little streaky, but a better athlete than you think. My question is, does he give a [bleep] half the time? Some games I watch, he just doesn’t care. He’s a poor man’s Jared Dudley. Measured smaller than I was hoping. He’s a limited defender. Maybe he sneaks into the back of the first round. From what I hear he does like working, likes staying in the gym. Nice size for a three/four, but with the way the game is played, his shooting is a big plus.”
  12. Having the “Brewers are broke and can’t afford any free agents” crowd suck the air out of the room on every free agent discussion thread this offseason might be the thing I’m least looking forward to.
  13. I know Bogdanović was a better fit for being the type of player the Bucks want to surround Giannis with, but not losing a talented young player in DiVincenzo wouldn’t seem like the worst consolation prize? I guess at least assuming Giannis ultimately does sign the supermax.
  14. Well that would certainly be unfortunate for the Brewers.
  15. Cain lost out on over $5 million because he wasn't comfortable playing baseball in a pandemic. I think exactly zero people in the clubhouse will hold his decision against him.
  16. He was in the Brewers organization for about 2.5 weeks in July of 2019. Here is an article from when he opted out of his minor league contract: Drew Smyly opts out of minor league contract with Milwaukee Brewers, becomes free agent
  17. MLB.com’s Mike Petriello predicts the Brewers are going to sign DJ LeMahieu to a three year deal in this article: Draft time! The top 30 free agents right now
  18. Theo Epstein reportedly stepping down as the Cubs President of Baseball Operations. Jed Hoyer is going to be elevated to his role beginning this Friday.
  19. Per Jon Morosi... Mets' request on Brewers' Stearns denied The Mets’ request to speak with Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns about the same position in New York has been denied, sources told MLB.com. Stearns, 35, signed a multiyear contract extension with the Brewers prior to the 2019 season that included a promotion to president of baseball operations. Clubs often decline to grant permission for team executives to interview for positions with other teams that carry the same title. Stearns grew up in New York as a fan of the Mets and worked in their front office at the start of his career in professional baseball. Stearns was the youngest GM in the sport when he joined Milwaukee in the fall of 2015 at age 30. The Brewers have made the playoffs in each of the past three seasons, the longest such streak in franchise history.
  20. Speaking of the Rockies, as far as I can tell they have more top corner infield prospects than any other organization. The following five corner infield prospects are considered among the Rockies top ten overall prospects... 1B Michael Toglia (Age 22) 3B Ryan Vilade (Age 21) 3B Aaron Schunk (Age 23) 1B/3B Colton Welker (Age 23) 1B Grant Lavigne (Age 21) I am not sure if Hader makes sense for the Rockies, but I wouldn’t mind finding a way to pry one of those corner infield prospects away from them by trading a pitcher or pitching prospect.
  21. Former GM’s Billy Beane (A's), Ruben Amaro Jr. (Phillies), and Kenny Williams (White Sox) were all MLB players.
  22. I think it’s very likely the Rangers end up in Round Rock.
  23. I completely agree. Maybe the Brewers lost the trade, but that isn’t something we’ll know definitively for some time. Grisham was fantastic offensively through his first 30 games, but over the second half of the short season (final 30 regular season games) he hit just .231/.323/.380 for a .702 OPS. His defense was surprisingly good. He got great jumps and made some nice plays on balls that looked like sure hits. His arm strength remains his weakest defensive trait. I wouldn’t be shocked if Grisham is someone that pitchers make successful adjustments against. The part of his transformation that gets all of the credit is the change back to his old golf grip, but the one that probably had a bigger impact on his results was in the Brewers organization when he started focusing on hitting the ball out in front of the plate. That change seemingly corresponded with a switch that flipped on for him. Using that approach he crushed fastballs this season. The one thing I would worry about is whether he will continue having trouble hitting offspeed pitches (he had a .163 BA and .245 SLG on at-bats that ended with an offspeed pitch). It sort of makes sense that an approach that relies heavily on jumping on pitches would find changeups to be kryptonite. I’ll be curious to see how he gets pitched next season now that teams have more video on him.
  24. I feel like there has to be more to that story. Just really strange. Also, I hope Tepera has an “MVP votes” performance bonus in his contract so it will at least cost the Cubs a few extra dollars.
