That was discussed, but they went with a specific seeding system instead. The three division winners get the top three seeds (#1-#3), the second place teams in each division get the next three seeds (#4-#6), and the two remaining teams with the best records get the “wild card” seeds (#7-#8).
Brent Suter: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats - Brett Anderson has been scratched; Brent Suter will start Kyle Hendricks: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
Via Curt Hogg: Through the first 8,170 games in Brewers franchise history, only three starts were made of 7+ IP, 0 R, 11+ K, 1 or fewer hits. It's happened now in EACH of their last two games. Baseball!
It’s looking most likely the NL Central champion will get the #3 overall playoff seed, and the 2nd place finisher in the NL Central will get the #6 seed. Meaning, the first round of the playoffs would feature two NL Central teams facing off against each other. I wouldn’t exactly hate the Brewers chances in a 3-game playoff series against the Cubs. One other observation, I think the Brewers will need to finish .500 to make the playoffs. At this point that will require a 10-8 finish going forward.
Sort of speaks to how fluid this situation is when you can go from 4 games under .500 to just one game out of a top 6 playoff spot in a couple of days.
Here is a race between Garcia, Cain, Gyorko, and Piña using 2019 sprint speed if you’re interested... Brewers Sprint Speed Race Edit: For some reason Pina and Gyorko aren’t showing up now so I changed it to Braun and Arcia instead.
