  1. Adrian Houser: Batter (White Sox) vs Pitching Stats Dallas Keuchel: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  2. Mark Mathias turned 26 two days ago, and made his major league debut as a pinch runner. Good for him, hope he scores.
  3. With a 3-run lead Kimbrel came in to save the game for the Cubs tonight (versus the Royals). After three batters, and some hard contact off the wall, he was pulled. Cubs still lead 5-2, but Royals have runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Edit: Now 5-4.
  4. Barring a comeback, the Brewers and Marlins would end the night with the same number of wins. The Brewers have played twice as many games.
  5. Something tells me one time through the lineup Suter could dominate these White Sox hitters. A second time, maybe not so much.
  6. The amount of pitches Christian Yelich has been swinging right through this season is incredible. It’s not a like a tough luck slump where he’s scorching the ball right at people. He’s not even fouling pitches off for the most part, but rather just straight up whiffing.
  7. That is one of the better defensive plays I’ve seen Hiura make in his young career. Huge play to keep the run off the board.
  8. One problem is there really aren’t many suitable corner infield options on the free agent market this year beyond maybe Justin Turner. If they make a significant upgrade it will likely need to be via trade.
  9. It appears like Narvaez stabs at the ball a lot while receiving. Then I turn to his Baseball Savant page with his 2020 percentile rankings... ...that doesn’t seem right.
  10. I agree that Urias has to prove a capable major league starter, but I won’t be shocked if Eric Lauer ends up being the Brewers “headliner” from that trade with the benefit of hindsight. I am hopeful that Lauer is the type of pitcher that will get much better with continued experience, and finally give the Brewers a solid young-ish (mid-20’s) left handed starting pitcher. Regarding Grisham, I have watched about half of his at-bats this season and I do think he has truly unlocked something. He is currently top 10 in all of baseball in WAR (yes, tiny sample). He also looks like a much stronger center fielder than I admittedly thought he was capable of becoming.
  11. I like this White Sox lineup a lot, but I am hopeful that Woodruff is the type of veteran pitcher that can take advantage of some of their aggressiveness. Edit: White Sox now have 6 infield hits in the past 10 innings against the Brewers.
  12. Yadier Molina announced he is one of the Cardinals that tested positive for COVID-19. The part I don't understand is he caught both games against the Twins last week (Tues., July 28th and Wed., 29th). He was at home plate exposing both the home plate umpires and Twins hitters. I know the transmission outdoors is more unlikely, but I am surprised MLB shut down the Phillies for a week due to fear of exposure, but didn't do the same with either the Twins or the umpire team in a similar circumstance.
  13. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (White Sox) vs Pitching Stats Lucas Giolito: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  14. Based on the Red Sox current financial commitments, I think it’s unlikely they will offer a Jackie Bradley, Jr. a potential $19+ million qualifying offer. If they do I would be sort of shocked if he turned it down since early prognostications are that the market will be very slow this off-season. Here is an MLB Trade Rumors look at likely qualifying offer candidates following the season. They said it was possible, but highly unlikely JBJ would receive a qualifying offer.
  15. Even when Cain and Braun were in the mix you had Sogard, Smoak, Morrison, and Gyorko all hitting in the top 5 in the lineup (granted not all at the same time). I definitely understand what they were trying to do with average-ish players platooning, and the depth of those pieces projected to be fine over a full season marathon. Still, I have a hard time arguing that in a sprint this is the type of lineup that’s going to impress anyone over a short season or playoff format.
  16. That's actually really good considering how bad their overall team batting average is. Coming into tonight the overall team batting average was .198 for the season. Team OPS was at .642 which was 26th in baseball (yes, small sample size).
  17. The names on the offensive side of the ball are pretty depressing. A bunch of dudes you wouldn’t want on your competing team in their prime let alone now. Smoke? Morrison? Gyorko? Sogard? Healy? Arcia still (t Ho ugh he has been decent so far)? You’d think we were just trying to fill holes on a rebuilding team so we had enough guys to play. Quantity over quality for sure. Some of it is the shame of what was available in the winter, but dang...tough group of guys we are depending on with inexperienced pitchers. I agree, but with a barren farm system I think we are going to have to get used to guys like these filling out at least a third of the lineup of the foreseeable future, unfortunately.
  18. Okay, the 26-22 Cardinals, over the 30-27 Brewers and 32-28 Cubs.
  19. In Brewers alumni news, Grisham has a pair of hits including his 4th home run of the year tonight against the Dodgers. He now has a 1.058 OPS for the season.
  20. It seemed like Arcia was a step slow on that Mazara blooper. Looked like a ball a shortstop should get to. It did have a weird cutting action to it, I guess.
