The Brewers started the month of June with two wins against the Pirates and finished the month of June with two wins against the Pirates. It wasn’t pretty in between, but they finished the month of June going 13-13 overall. Heading to July 1st the Brewers are tied for 1st place in the NL Central. Regardless of what’s transpired to this point the Brewers remain in a position to have a special summer over the next three months. -
As bad as things have gone at times for much of the pitching staff, Matt Albers has now thrown scoreless innings in 12 of his last 14 appearances. He has been a bright spot.

If Albers gets through this inning with the save I promise I won’t every make a pun out his first name again.

Rock: “Talk about a guy that’s due against Milwaukee, it’s Josh Bell” as Bell walks to the plate with a runner on in the 9th inning of a one run game against Matt Albers.

If the Brewers lose a close game today the bottom of the 2nd inning is going to take part of the blame. Disappointing end to what should have been bases loaded with no outs.

For as much as Eric Karros went on and on about the blown ball four call last night (which was huge blown call in the Brewers favor) that blown ball four call to Piña is likely to prove equally costly.

Moose had a nice 9 pitch at bat earlier, but boy did he just miss on that center cut 93-mph fastball on the final pitch. Wish he could have found his way on with Hiura on deck.

Davies looking very hittable so far on anything near the zone. Missed his spot on that pitch to Melky Cabrera. This is stating the obvious, but the Brewers need to avoid extremely short starts between now and the All-Star Break. Edit: Nice play by Cain to limit the damage!

I think he’ll do well. I enjoy watching him hit batting practice because his line drive home runs are a thing of beauty. He shouldn’t need to alter his swing at all for the derby.

Thanks for sharing your insights JC! One note on the above valuing of the Brewers draft picks is the site has the following entry regarding the Comp A selection the Brewers traded away... So if they value the Comp A selection at 11.3, I would guess they would have Ethan Small valued somewhat closer to that number. I think it’s reasonable to think that recent draft picks would be valued a little higher by teams and most lose value over time as some of the prospect shine wears off. Regarding Claudio specifically, he is now valued at 5.2 on the website, so either they found they were too high on him initially or they adjusted for performance/cost/control. -

It’s the last day of June and if the playoffs started today the National League playoffs would consist of the exact same five teams as last season. The only difference from last year’s playoff bracket is the Brewers and Cubs would be swapped. The Brewers and Rockies would play in the wild card game, and the Braves, Dodgers, Cubs would be the division winners. Many teams are currently chasing closely behind for a wild card spot including the Phillies (1.0 GB), Padres (1.5 GB), Dbacks (2.0 GB), Nationals (2.5 GB), Cardinals (3.0 GB), Pirates (4.0 GB). The only National League teams that truly look like “sellers” at this point in time are the Marlins and Giants with the Mets trending towards that territory. The Reds are a good week or two away from being right in the middle of the wild card mix. -

Today in “That’s so Mets”... The Mets held a touching tribute to the 1969 Mets team during Saturday’s game. Things got really emotional when they acknowledged the since deceased members of the team. The only problem is two of the guys they included as deceased teammates are very much still alive. Mets Actually Included 2 Living Former Players in Ode to Deceased Members of 1969 World Series Team

Ha, no kidding. Back-to-back 13-0 wins and their run differential now improves to -165 runs on the season.
