  1. It’s obviously way too early to do victory laps, but Kimbrel has reportedly been sitting between 93-95 mph with his fastball in his Triple-A appearances so far (another of which was tonight). Over the past couple of years he has typically been 97-99 mph, and frequently touched 100+ mph. It could be that he is just building up arm strength, but at least it has Cubs fans uneasy for the time being.
  2. This was verbatim my first thought when I saw the Santana/Gamel thread resuscitated. Anything short of Rob Manfred announcing at the All Star break that the National League is adding the DH for the second half of the 2019 season, will keep me from bemoaning the trade. From a roster construction standpoint the trade was fine. It certainly isn’t worth freaking out over.
  3. The Brewers Twitter account has some cringeworthy moments, but this is actually pretty good...
  4. I don’t think I realized watching the game that outside of Grandal and Moustakas having two hits a piece the only other Brewers hit today was Cain’s half swing opposite field RBI bloop single.
  5. He has a sub-.500 OPS against LHP that aren’t named Josh Hader, I don’t think he would have stood a chance against him other than to maybe throw his elbow pad into one.
  6. Chris Archer trades haven’t really worked out for any team in the NL Central (except for those now facing him).
  7. After a week off, I wouldn't be surprised if Hader ends up blowing this one. For a fan base that’s already teetering on the edge of sanity due to the past week that would pretty much be the final straw.
  8. In my opinion, Hader should be pitching this inning. They have blown two games in the 7th inning over the past week, and it’s the top of the order coming up with two lefties scheduled.
  9. I know it is really easy to say given the current results, but this lineup seems fun.
  10. Per the Brewers: RHP Aaron Wilkerson has been recalled from Triple-A San Antonio. RHP Corbin Burnes has been optioned there. From Adam McCalvy: Yasmani Grandal is hitting leadoff today as the Brewers try to snap a five-game skid. Let’s get weird.
  11. Haven’t exactly studied this, but off the top of my head these are my best guesses in terms of potential suitors for a half season of Grandal and Moustakas (obviously this is assuming these teams would still be in playoff contention)... Grandal: Rays, Padres, Angels, Rangers Moustakas: Phillies, Angels
  12. During this past off-season this article, Ranking All 30 MLB Teams on Homegrown Talent Entering 2019, had the Brewers ranked 26th, but that was by projected WAR from homegrown talent, and not total # of players. However, the Brewers are near the bottom of the list in total number of homegrown players on their roster as well (if you don’t include Cain and Jeffress due to the way they were acquired after being out of the organization). It is a very small difference though since most teams have only between 7-11 players on their 25 man roster that were homegrown. Here is another article from Baseball America last fall during the playoffs, Most Homegrown Players On Division Series Rosters Here was their list... Also kind of interesting from that Baseball America article is that their were 8 homegrown Cubs that were on other teams Division Series playoff rosters last year... Gleyber Torres, Josh Donaldson, Marwin Gonzalez, Rich Hill, D.J. LeMahieu, Brandon Guyer, Chris Rusin and Ryan Flaherty. That was tied with the Orioles for the most from any organization.
  13. Jhoulys Chacín: Batter (Reds) vs Pitching Stats Luis Castillo: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats
  14. Chase: No. Maybe to the pen Nelson: I've beaten this to death but they really screwed up not optioning him earlier and now they can't. They are in a tough spot with him but he's not getting let go. Maybe to the pen Perez: No. Not a very good player but versatility and all that. All paid for for 2019 anyway. Aguilar: Maybe Shaw: Should be in AAA like 10 years ago Pina: No Claudio: Could be optioned but any other option to bring up has sucked equally. One of the roster construction hallmarks the Brewers were accused of practicing during the Doug Melvin era was a “Stars and Scrubs” approach (2013 Brewers Stars and Scrubs Article Link). I didn’t always think it was fair, but it was also tough to argue at times. I don’t think it would be an accurate assessment of the current roster building approach, but based on the fact so many players have really dropped off while a small handful have shined brightly this roster has very much taken on the look of a Stars and Scrubs club.
  15. Frustrating that this should be a 3-0 pitch to Grandal. That was a rough call on the high strike.
  16. So they have a little life. I’ll take my chances with Grandal taking a shot at a big fly.
  17. I mean just put Perez in for Shaw already. It doesn’t take a hitting expert to see how poorly his hand-eye coordination is on his swings right now. Edit: Thank you.
  18. Now that it’s close again I wish they would have challenged Eugenio Suarez’s HBP in the 1st inning. Looked like it pretty clearly hit the knob of the bat and not his hand... I know, hindsight.
