  1. Cain grimaces so much that I never have any idea to what extent he is in actual pain.
  2. Did anyone honestly think he was an excellent pickup? I remember a lot of "blahs" and "NOOOOOO's" when they signed him. Yeah, I am pretty sure more people mockingly lauded the move than there were those who thought it was some savvy pickup.
  3. I know J.A. Happ as a rental isn’t a flashy acquisition, but I think he is going to prove to be a very solid pickup for the Yankees. I wouldn’t have been as disappointed as some others if he would have ended up in Milwaukee (depending on the cost obviously). Also, Brandon Drury with a parting shot per Jack Curry of the YES Network... Drury said he is “excited” to go to the Blue Jays and finish the season strong. Said his experience with the Yankees wasn’t what he expected.
  4. I know the stats fall into the small sample size category, but the difference between his MLB and Triple-A stats this year is mind boggling. Triple-A .341 BA / .417 OBP / .494 SLG / .911 OPS / 15.6 K% MLB .197 BA / .231 OBP / .251 SLG / .482 OPS / 24.4 K%
  5. Well, here we go again. Edit: Double play! Okay, Miley.
  6. The Cubs have traded for LHP Cole Hamels. From MLB Trade Rumors... The Cubs and Rangers are in agreement on a trade that will send Cole Hamels from Texas to Chicago, reports Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News (via Twitter). Multiple reports had indicated that the two sides were making progress on a deal, as was first indicated by Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports adds the ever-important caveat that the trade is pending medical reviews
  7. This series is especially important because the Brewers sweeping the Giants keeps alive my fantasy that they become sellers and the Brewers acquire the remaining 1.5 years of Madison Bumgarner before next Tuesday's deadline.
  8. Off the top of my head I have seen speculation of the following players being "available" from those teams... Mets = Cabrera, Wheeler, deGrom, Thor (DL) Rangers = Hamels, Keone Kela White Sox = Soria (traded to Brewers) Royals = Merrifield, Duffy Reds = Harvey, Scooter, Iglesias Marlins = Realmuto, Castro, Dietrich, Barraclough, Steckenrider, Adam Conley Tigers = Zimmermann, Fiers, Iglesias, Greene, Fulmer (DL), Castellanos Who are some other potentially available players I am missing from those teams?
  9. Sure, except the former can be examined quantitatively. If the sample remains too small, then fair enough.
  10. Soria was in Los Angeles with the White Sox, so I have to assume they can get him to San Francisco fairly quickly?
  11. I am quoting this again because I really think this article is worth reading to get a sense of what type of pitcher Soria is at this moment in time. Also, I had modest hopes for what Medeiros could develop into, but I think strengthening the bullpen is a good move for the next two years. In any given playoff series I believe the team with the better bullpen has a distinct advantage. In the case of the Brewers I think relying on an elite bullpen could help neutralize the disadvantage of lacking a top of the rotation starter.
  12. Sounds like Brandon Drury is the key piece heading to Toronto. Other pieces likely as well (Billy McKinney mentioned as a possibility).
  13. According to Jon Morosi the trade agreement is in place... J.A. Happ trade agreement to #Yankees is in place, source confirms. @MLB @MLBNetwork #BlueJays
  14. Highly recommend reading this Baseball Prospectus article from this morning on Joakim Soria... Rubbing Mud: Joakim Soria, Slider Monster
  15. Team option for next year appears to be $10 million with a $1 million buyout.
  16. I don't think Theo would hesitate to move MLB talent if he thinks it will help solidify an overall functional need on the roster. We have the benefit of hindsight in looking back now and this deal was headlined primarily by rental players, but the 4-team deadline day deal in 2004 where Theo moved Nomar Garciaparra in order to acquire Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz proved to be pushing all the right buttons for a team that went on to win the World Series.
  17. Reports that the Cubs have recently discussed Marcus Stroman with the Blue Jays. I know his early season results were quite poor (partially inflated by a high BAbip against him), but I have a feeling that Stroman could be a very solid pitcher this season with a change of scenery and a better defense behind him. I have to imagine his cost now is also less than what it was this past off-season. Maybe the Blue Jays will be smart enough not to sell low on him, but if they do I hope he doesn’t end up going to the Cubs.

  19. Here is the Steve Phillips tweet... Sources indicate that #Jays focusing on finalizing deal with #Yankees for JA Happ.
  20. An update from Mark Feinsand that basically just sums up this afternoon/evening’s buzz... Yankees still appear to be the leader in the race for J.A. Happ, but other teams remain engaged with Blue Jays. Brewers & Cubs still in play, though 1-2 more may also be in the mix. Toronto may not get its initial high asking price, but the heavy competition should benefit Jays. And Joel Sherman with similar reporting... Heard multiple teams still in with #Bluejays on JA Happ. #Brewers, #Yankees believed particularly strong. Tor has lowered demands in past few days. Heard NYY made counteroffers. Expect NYY still want to use at least 1 P have to consider protecting on 40-man this winter.
  21. Putting a bow on this, below are the standings of which teams had players represented in the top 50. The total score represents each player being assigned a point value from 50 to 1 based on their ranking position (i.e. #1 player equals 50 points). Teams that had zero players in the top 50 were Baltimore, Chicago (AL), Kansas City, Detroit, Texas, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and Colorado.
  22. Correct, it makes plenty of sense from that standpoint. It also makes it easier for them to trade a catcher this year. I know Ramos is on the DL, but he could be an August waivers trade candidate if they don’t move him before the deadline.
  23. The only thing I find interesting about this trade is that the Rays acquired a major league ready catcher (Perez) in the deal.
  24. Adam McCalvy weighs in with confirmation that nothing going on with Domingo... I've heard from three people. Nothing to see here. It was a normal double switch in a Triple-A baseball game.
  25. Blue Jays cleaning out the attic full of 35-year olds. Per Steve Phillips... Sources indicate #Jays close to a deal with Seunghwan Oh. Could happen tonight.
