  1. Oh man, I thought that Arcia shot was fair initially.
  2. Brinson just got robbed of a hit in the 14th by Jason Heyward (sliding catch near the foul line). I would really like to see the Marlins find a way to pull this one out.
  3. They look like pretty classic Pirates uniforms. Wait, we're not playing the Pirates. I assume these are their Friday night only home jerseys? Those aren’t even their official colors anymore.
  4. Well 4-6 now in extra innings, but coming into tonight he was 5-for-52 in his MLB career, so a really big night for him.
  5. If Haudricourt guessed it, would assume it is someone fairly well known. Initially Brett Lawrie crossed my mind, but I am not sure if he stepped away from baseball altogether? Edit: Apparently Lawrie has been living/working out in Arizona and is trying to get back into professional ball (Link). Man, Lawrie is an odd dude.
  6. The updated International bonus pool allotments from MLB.com, 2018-19 international signing bonus pools set. The Reds, Marlins, Brewers, Twins, Athletics and Rays have largest allotment, however the Reds and Athletics are restricted from spending no more than $300,000 on any individual prospect.
  7. Here is another scouting report for LHP Joey Lucchesi, this one is from Baseball America. I agree with Too Live Brew, this is the type of pitcher I could see having some nice success early on while he is a relative unknown. The “nasty pickoff move” has me intrigued, hopefully someone gives Villar a heads-up.
  8. Not sure if it makes sense for the Brewers, but I am interested to see if someone tries to work out a trade (or makes a waiver claim) for recently DFA’d RHP Kyle Zimmer. The odds say his injury history will continue to pile up and he will never reach his potential, BUT if he were to stay healthy he still has the potential to be either a top of the rotation starter or elite bullpen arm. While the odds may be very much against him at this point he is still only 26 years old and an intriguing talent.
  9. Apparently the Dodgers scoreboard now lists OPS+ and WAR. I liked when the Miller Park scoreboard switched from BA to OPS, and I could get on board with OPS+ listed somewhere, but I don’t think WAR fits that well as a scoreboard stat. It will be a while into the season until players accumulate enough WAR to even distinguish themselves, and there is enough variance between the different offensive and defensive measures for WAR calculations that it carries too much ambiguity for a “scoreboard stat”, IMO. I actually really like WAR (prefer fWAR slightly over bWAR), but more as an end of the season comparison between players. Well that’s my “get off my lawn” rant for the start of the season. I do really like the fact they added “pitch type”..
  10. Brewers only have two relievers on the roster that haven’t pitched today, Drake and Barnes. Obviously Woodruff available as well.
  11. Another way to view the positioning involved with the shift shown above...
  12. The Astros shift against Joey Gallo (4 deep outfielders, and 3 players on the right side of the infield)...
  13. Five hits for the Brewers through 3 innings, I think we are going to enjoy watching this team hit this season.
  14. They said it is a head injury, but he is back pitching this inning.
  15. I will say, and I don’t think this is overstating it, that was easily the worst looking uncontested slide attempt I can recall ever seeing in a professional baseball game.
  16. [sarcasm]I didn’t want to overreact after his first at-bat, but at this point I think it is fair to ask... will anyone get Lorenzo Cain out this season?[/sarcasm]
  17. I think Braun goes deep at some point today... let’s say 4th inning.
  18. Arcia’s barehanded stab and throw was spectacular, some HOT defense in San Diego today!
  19. San Diego with two of the better double plays you will ever see in the first two innings.
  20. Wow, great play by Headley. Tough break in the first inning of the season, but a minimum of 1,457 more to go.
  21. A quick breakdown of the 2018 Brewers win predictions: - 55 total win predictions were submitted. - Highest win prediction was 96. - Lowest win prediction was 68. - Every number between 77 to 94 was predicted at least once. - The average of all submitted win predictions was 85.24 (although interestingly only two posters selected 85 wins). - The most common win predictions were 87 (selected by 8 posters), 88 (selected by 7 posters), followed by 83 and 84 wins (each selected by 5 posters). Thanks to everyone who contributed!
  22. A friendly reminder that the in-game thread for Opening Day is up and running for today’s game.
