  1. Yes, the proposal and baseball virtues of Yelich are being currently being discussed in the Christian Yelich thread.
  2. Yelich is 2.5 years older than Brinson and has over 2,800 MLB plate appearances under his belt already. I am a huge fan of Lewis Brinson, but I would have a hard time arguing in favor of the unknown in this instance. Brinson may end up being a better player than Yelich, but the probabilities would suggest otherwise.
  3. He's been a 4.5 WAR player 3 of the last 4 years and is cheap and controlled. He probably becomes our best position player the moment the trade goes through. But is he really worth Brinson + Ortiz + Diaz? I don't see him as that valuable. I personally don't even want to give up Brinson for him. And think about the pitcher we coudl get for that package, or even less than that package. Probably someone more valuable than Yelich... In Fangraphs 2017 Trade Value Series (which takes into account contract dollars and years of control) they had him ranked at 27th in trade value among all players in baseball (including prospects). The cost to obtain him will be very high, and would almost certainly include Brinson among others.
  4. One side note, Brinson grew up a Marlins fan and has said OF Juan Pierre was his favorite player growing up. I am sure his acquisition could lead to a slight bit of good PR (local kid comes home) for the Marlins during their current roster deconstruction.
  5. Mish should be considered a legit source. Here is the MLB Trade Rumors link as well.
  6. The writing is kind of on the wall at this point, from the Twins beat reporter...
  7. I think it is debatable whether Mejia or Brinson is a better prospect. IMO Brinson has a greater range of possible outcomes than Mejia. Between the two, I think Brinson has the best chance to be a "bust", but also has a crazy high All Star type ceiling for us to dream on. I think Mejia is very good, and I would bet on him to become a very solid major league player. If he remains at catcher he will offer a ton of offensive value relative to the position. Even with an elite throwing arm, there is still a chance Mejia doesn't stick at catcher due to some reported defensive deficiencies. A move to third base would obviously be a blow to his perceived overall value. I would guess that if Brewers acquired him they would believe in his ability to stick at catcher, but the flip side of that assertion is it may signal that the Indians didn't believe in him becoming their future backstop.
  8. So 6 Brewers prospects in both Baseball America and Keith Law’s top 100s, and we know MLB Pipeline will have 7 Brewers prospects in their top 100 prospect list released later this week. Also, that seems too low for Brinson.
  9. Maybe premature, but Cubs fans are getting excited by this news (LINK)... In a matter of 24 hours I’ve gone from hoping the Brewers sign Darvish to hoping he signs with anyone but the Cubs.
  10. A question for the group... if/when the Brewers begin making player acquisitions in the coming days or weeks, do you think they will be trades that clearly help the team immediately in 2018, or trades that prioritize longer term value with potentially less immediate impact? ...And yes, we all hope for both, but answer one versus the other. Think Josh Donaldson or Jose Abreu (as mentioned in this thread) versus the concept of Francisco Mejia or taking on bad contracts.
  11. I can understand the argument that Darvish as a fit with Milwaukee isn’t perfect, but from the Brewers standpoint their interest in Darvish makes perfect sense.
  12. This is the most realistic FA signing in this thread. Though I can't say I'd be shocked for a Lynn or Cobb move if we can't make any other splash trades. I think Cashner could be a sneaky good signing for some team. I could see a non-contender taking a chance on him as well as an upside play.
  13. Yup, and won't they just love to stick it to us like that? I worry that the Cubs signing Darvish coupled with the Brewers signing Arrieta may lead toward two divergent paths, and not in a good way as far as the Brewers are concerned.
  14. Can you expound at all by chance? If not, certainly understand.
  15. Source? The only thing I've seen is a report out of Japan that was repeated by others. Which probably means it was put out by team Darvish to drive up his price and not by the Brewers. One can claim that Hardricout is doubling down on an old quote from Stearns but that old quote is more solid than anything I have seen on Darvish getting an offer from the Brewers. LINK
  16. The Chicago Cubs beat reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Brewers made a contract offer to Arrieta from information he received from “an individual close to Arrieta” and Ken Rosenthal confirmed with a source that the Brewers made an offer to Darvish. So either they made offers or two professional baseball writers are lying (or being lied to).
  17. It was MLB Pipeline that hinted they would have Harrison around the middle of their Top 100 list.
  18. Put me in the camp that thinks this is bad news for the Brewers chances of landing Darvish. I won’t claim it takes them out of it by any means, but it seems clear the Cubs are preparing to make a very strong play for Darvish.
  19. The Brewers have made offers to both Arrieta and Darvish. The Brewers reportedly have several trades set-up. Numerous reports have stated the Brewers have checked in on almost every Free Agent on the market. You smell a “nothing burger?” Haudricourt has been doubling down on one Stearns quote from before the winter meetings about looking at market size and history as an indicator. I would actually be far more surprised at this point if the Brewers DON’T make significant moves.
  20. If that’s the case, I hope it works. I think Darvish is the best pitcher available in free agency this year, and likely the best possible FA pitcher the Brewers could realistically add over the next two free agency periods.
  21. If Darvish signs for four years and $100 million I have a feeling it will be somewhere else. If the Brewers are going to land Darvish I think they will need to do at least ONE of these three things: 1) Offer closer to a $27-$30 million AAV 2) Add a 5th or 6th year to the deal 3) Offer a player opt out clause in the deal
  22. Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled trade speculation thread, but HighHeat19 has made a fairly significant assertion in the Yu Darvish thread if you haven't checked it out yet.
  23. This seems plausible based on the way the article translated. I also think it is likely the Brewers would have to overpay somewhat significantly over an offer from a team like the Cubs for this very reason. I think we could potentially see a scenario where the team he signs with isn't his highest offer. It might also be why the trade rumors are swirling, if he wants them to "prove" they are close to contending. Not that dissimilar from Greinke citing the acquisition of Marcum as a reason he waived his no trade agreement.
  24. Happy Brewers trade speculation day everyone! If it is indeed going to be a big trade we all might want to take a moment to hug that Brewers prospect list one last time.
  25. I agree with you, I think the Twins are still his most likely landing spot. I mentioned yesterday in the Significant Acquisition thread that I had a suspicion the Brewers would be bidding on Darvish, but the Twins have seemed best positioned to land him.
