  1. Some of my likes and dislikes about the Kodi Medeiros pick at #12... Likes -Good Athlete -Lots of crazy movement all of over the place including movement on his fastball -Appears to have an exceptional work ethic and workout regime -Appears to have solid control -Potentially some draft pool savings to help with the upcoming picks -May need less development and overall adjustments than the other top HS pitchers (as long as the Brewers don't try to change his arm slot) -Possible fast mover through the system Dislikes -Left some very good arms on the board -Low arm slot is somewhat worrisome, but the Brewers messing with the arm slot is much more worrisome -Some concern he will become a reliever -Might not actually be a below-slot signing
  2. When I heard Selig say "Lu..." I thought you were going to be right. I am glad Ortiz didn't go to the Cardinals.
  3. And here is a "Day in the Life of Kodi Medeiros" .
  4. So are there any predictions on whether Medeiros worked out a pre-draft deal with the Brewers for under-slot? I would say yes since he was in Milwaukee last week, but I also saw reports that they thought he might be gone by the #12 pick which would lead me to believe that they just thought really highly of him and did not use pre-draft leverage against him.
  5. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I hope it leads to over-slot deals later. They left a lot of good arms on the board for that pick.
  6. Come on Brewers...no whammy, no whammy, no whammy.
  7. This is going to be a long 5 minutes. Some very good pitching options on the board here!
  8. Interesting side note: Jack Z announced that they are immediately moving Alex Jackson to the OF, not going to mess around with trying him at Catcher.
  9. I would guess Toussaint goes 11. That would leave Newcomb or Holmes on the board.
  10. Klaw says Hoffman and Conforto are the next two picks.
  11. Callis dropped him to #16 in his final mock draft.
  12. At least one of these pitchers is guaranteed be available at #12: Kyle Freeland Sean Newcomb Jeff Hoffman Grant Holmes Touki Toussaint
  13. I think there is a chance Sean Newcomb could fall to #12, which I would consider a very good pick for the Brewers if it happened.
  14. My top 5 options for the Brewers at #12 among guys that have a possibility to be available: 1) Jeff Hoffman 2) Sean Newcomb 3) Grant Holmes 4) Touki Toussaint 5) Luis Ortiz (on an under-slot deal allowing for some over-slot deals in the comp round and 2nd round)
  15. Callis has Derek Hill up to #13 in his final mock draft. Hill has had a lot of helium this past week leading into the draft, I am curious to see if he actually ends up going somewhere in the middle of the first round.
  16. My prediction for tomorrow's top 12: 1-1 (HOU) = Brady Aiken, LHP, Cathedral Catholic HS (California) 1-2 (MIA) = Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State 1-3 (CHW) = Tyler Kolek, RHP, Shepherd HS (Texas) 1-4 (CHC) = Max Pentecost, C, Kennesaw State (pre-draft deal saving the Cubs well short of the $4.6 mil slot value allowing them to go over-slot on pitching with other selections) 1-5 (MIN) = Alex Jackson, C/OF, Rancho Bernardo HS (California) 1-6 (SEA) = Nick Gordon, SS, Olympia HS (Florida) 1-7 (PHI) = Aaron Nola, RHP, Louisiana State 1-8 (COL) = Kyle Freeland, LHP, Evansville 1-9 (TOR) = Touki Toussaint, RHP, Coral Springs Christian Academy (Florida) 1-10 (NYM) = Michael Conforto, OF, Oregon State 1-11 (TOR) = Jeff Hoffman, RHP, East Carolina 1-12 (MIL) = Sean Newcomb, LHP, Hartford
  17. Thanks to those who participated in the mock draft! Hope to do it again in future years, although we may try to consolidate the mock into a shorter period of time next year. The final results are listed below. Brewerfan.net Mock Draft (2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft 1st Round) 1. Houston Astros - Eye Black Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State 2. 18. Scout's 2014 MLB Draft: Mock V2.0 I really hope this isn't how it shakes out. I would prefer any other player listed in this top 20 over Finnegan.
  19. I will be disappointed if the Brewers pass on Grant Holmes to take Tyler Beede. I haven't given up on the idea of Beede becoming an effective starter, but I really have grown to like Holmes. Holmes seems like he has the "it" factor to take the mound with confidence and poise. Predicting long-term success for a pitcher is a near impossibility, but I would not be surprised if Holmes ends up being one of the 2 or 3 best pitchers to come out of this draft.
  20. Selection #26 - Boston Red Sox Foster Griffin, LHP, First Academy HS (Florida) A 6'5" southpaw with a low 90's fastball that has touched 95. Also reportedly a decent change-up and a developing slider. A little risky as a first rounder, but the Red Sox system is strong and they can afford to take a chance on a high ceiling lefty with this pick. Other interesting selections here are Derek Hill, Nick Burdi, or the injured Erick Fedde.
  21. Just have to accept the fact that some fans see things through rose colored glasses. Either that, or this is an epic troll job. I see things that others are to blinded to see. We'll revisit this another time. Except that Gennett started and was removed earlier in the game. You didn't see that apparently.
  22. This has been the most disheartening game I can remember in a while. I am interested in the explanation for the bullpen botch job, because it certainly seems inexcusable at this point. The look on the faces of guys in the bullpen summed it up perfectly.
  23. That's Coop in the on-deck circle. Different cover. The one SI lists as a national cover involving the Brewers is the one with Yount turning a double play with Lonnie Smith sliding into second. From the angle the figure in the background has to be Oglivie (in LF). Both of the Yount covers were national covers, and they appeared two weeks apart in October of 1982, sandwiching a Marvin Hagler cover apparently. Here is a LINK to the 1982 covers.
