  1. Devin Williams needs 6 pitches to saw through the top of the Pirates order. That’ll play.
  2. With the top of the order due up, including Bryan Reynolds, this would be a great inning to use Josh Hader… if they still did that sort of thing.
  3. Pirates are reportedly signing Yoshitomo Tsutsugo. Here’s hoping he goes on to be known as the biggest Reds killer of them all.
  4. Yeah, the missed opportunities are really starting to add up. Probably need to score at least a couple of more to win this game.
  5. Lauer breaking out along with Ashby getting his first MLB experience recently, and Small presumably on the horizon for next year really gives the Brewers a nice trio of LHPs to be excited about for the future. [sarcasm]They can stack the future six man rotation with a R-L-R-L-R-L order![/sarcasm]
  6. Yeah, the Padres have 19 games remaining against the Dodgers and Giants, and 9 games against the Astros-Phillies-Braves, I think they have good reason to be nervous about holding onto the final Wild Card spot.
  7. Eric Lauer: Batter (Pirates) vs Pitching Stats Dillon Peters: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Pirates-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Pirates-Brewers
  8. Diamondbacks reliever LHP Tyler Gilbert, a 27-year old rule 5 draft pick last December (from the Dodgers), just threw a no hitter against the Padres in his first career MLB start. He didn’t pitch during last year’s COVID season and worked as an electrician in the family business.
  9. Brewers and Reds now have 44 games remaining. The Brewers magic number is 37. If the Brewers go .500 over their remaining games (22-22) the Reds would need to go 30-14 over their remaining games to tie the Brewers. If the Brewers are a little better than .500, like say 24-20 over their remaining games, then the Reds would need to go 32-12 to tie the Brewers. As long as the Brewers don’t experience a late season collapse where they play sub-.500 baseball it would be very difficult for the Reds to catch them. Assuming the Brewers stay relatively healthy down the stretch, it’s hard to envision a total collapse.
  10. Counsell announced Eric Lauer as the starter tomorrow. The Brewers are starting 3 straight LHP against the Pirates this series.
  11. Brewers didn’t have a very good afternoon, yet they still finish the day by gaining a half game on the Reds.
  12. The Brewers and Pirates are going to play 13.5 innings of baseball today and they’ve currently combined for 42 hits… and counting.
  13. Mitch Keller: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Pirates-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Pirates-Brewers
  14. As good as the pitching and offense have been recently, the defense has certainly had some cringeworthy moments in the past couple of weeks.
