  1. Pulling Flores at the point they did made sense regardless of the trade or not. He was a mess at that point and would only be putting him in harms way having him bat. But the Brewers did inform Gomez of the trade, pending physicals, so they were pretty far down the rabbit hole. SA looks pretty silly here. Insert Frank Drebin "nothing to see here" GIF.
  2. So if the Brewers really did balk at the physicals, does this all but guarantee that Wheeler comes back at Cy Young form and this trade is brought up for years to come?
  3. Flores and Wheeler
  4. MA more or lesss stated that they are willing to rebuild in the interview with BA acouple weeks back.
  5. I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly, but you're suggesting they pay him $15 mil for one year while his market value is half that? He would jump at the QO in that scenario and hit the market again next year. If he turned down the QO, nobody will be willing to sign him with draft pick compensation attached. I feel it's very unlikely they end up with draft pick compensation for him. I thought of that too, but he may bet on himself and get that 25mil gururanteed vs taking the quick 15mil. The newer pick compensation hampers my thought though.
  6. being that he is 28, this is his cash in contract. He would likely get a 7-8 mil contract for 3-4 years.
  7. He doesnt know that. A bunch of 16 yr old girls freaking out because the boy they just met hasnt called them yet. There are still 3 days left and outside of Cueto and Tulo, there really hasnt been any of the big trades yet. Once Hammels goes then the starter market will open up. Parra will be gone. THe only way I can see him still being here is if the Brewers feel that the comp pick is worth more than what they are being offered. In that case can you blame them?
  8. He can also be traded in the off season. So if you get bad offers now, roll the dice and try again in the fall.
  9. Live speed, I would have called him out too. It took freeze framed replay to show that his heel 'likely" hit home. I am still not convinced that he actually hit.
  10. Agreed. What I don't understand is why Smith was cussing out the Braves' dugout. He cheated. He should be mad at himself. They saw something and it was confirmed to be illegal by the umpires. What were the Braves supposed to do? Let him use pine tar to gain an advantage on their hitters? Because as stated above, a lot of pitchers do it. So it falls under gamesmanship. It would be like running through traffic to tell a cop someone was jay walking.
  11. what a clown show this whole team is. RRR probably should be fired, but its hard to make fruit salad with rotten fruit.
  12. While the deal may be falling through, Melvin's statement is likely putting the ball into the Phillies court. Come out and poo poo the progress and see if you can get the Phillies to panic and up their offer. Pretty standard negotiating tactics here.
  13. Ken Rosenthal says it will happening here soon. EDIT: Post #177, with confirmation from Jeff Passan Posts #182 & 184 provide some scouting report info on Diplan & Knebel Extensive scouting notes (Baseball Prospectus & Perfect Game) on Sardiñas & Knebel in post #214 Post #275 includes video of both Sardiñas & Knebel, as well as more takes on the trade
  14. I see him as a Peter Bourgious type player. More of a pinch runner, defensive specialist. Or on the other hand, he is Aoki with better speed.
  15. Can i ask why, even though I know the answer/s, why this team facing pitchers that walk a ton insist on swinging at the first pitch?
  16. Braun cannot not hit anything on the inside. The gap at which he misses the pitches rival Corey Hart's years of swinging and missing on all pitches right down the middle.
  17. For some every time I saw Matos' name in the box score, the Stelio Cantos theme played in my head.
  18. You have to figure they wanted to get these two signed first in order to determine how aggressive they are able to be with the rest of the class.
  19. [sarcasm]Packers draftee HaHa Clinton-Dix also an alumni.[/sarcasm] The school is going to marry with another school and become the Sporadic Bee Jays. Conservative would also have been accepted.
  20. he essentially was drafted to be traded IIRC, so in essence, he worked out fine.
  21. You dont know what he was using them for. Most take it to heal from injuries. Its not like his hand eye coordination is going to go away. I do suspect him to have DL stints though.
