  1. for pitchers, command can be developed. new pitches can be developed. for hitters, power can be developed, if the problem is lack of physical power. some plate discipline can be developed. hand-eye coordination cannot be developed. baseball sense can be developed.
  2. Marshall isn't an M.D., he's a Ph.D. He always had different ways of doing things, which worked well for him. It would be great with guys like him in the bullpen--you'd only need a 4 man bullpen.
  3. so exactly who are the brewers going to be able to keep?
  4. kendall was 10th out of 10 catchers that qualify. If you reduce it to 325 plate appearance, 30 catchers qualify, and he was 30th out of 30. Damian Miller was 28 before he stuck in the majors, so I guess Rottino could have a decent MLB career as a starter. I doubt he'd be much more than average offensively, though. Not much HR power, and doesn't walk much. He'd be able to run a lot faster than Estrada, though.
  5. Headline: Bush Out-pitches Peavy
  6. Crazy Joe could play 2B. Besides, missing Weeks for 250 AB shouldn't be that devastating, even if Counsell is playing there.
  7. hmm, there are waffle houses all over the south, and I believe you can get grits at them. If you want something more upscale sounding than grits, just call it polenta.
  8. gagne, turnbow, riske, mota, torres have all closed before. there would have to be a train wreck (literally or figuratively) for Pena to be on the club before September.
  9. gwynn doesn't really need a platoon partner. I don't know what he did last year, but I seem to recall his splits were not extreme at all.
  10. The only thing you'd get by swapping weeks for roberts is somewhat better defense, and probably batting average. weeks should have more power, comparable OBP, SB% as high or better. It wouldn't make the team better, unless you believe ST is indicative of what Weeks will do. In which case, trading him for a sack of peanuts would be worthwhile.
  11. I'd like the syringes used by Barry Bonds. They should be worth something when he gets elected to the hall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. I hope you're right. How did Suppan do last Spring? I looked at his recent springs for MIL and STL and his ERAs were between 3.5 and 6.9. No 11.
  13. I think the Giants would, too.
  14. does this mean that katin WILL be at Nashville?
  15. socal, dillon can play the OF, too, just not CF.
  16. Nashville might be heavy to lefties if Parra goes down there (I hope not). Parra, Jackson and Narveson. I don't know who gets the other slots.
  17. nunez is a nice guy to have around (in Nashville) in case someone (particularly Counsell) gets injured, but PH is the biggest thing the bench is going to do. Dillon batted .400 as a PH. I don't see how Kapler rates higher than dillon (at least not once Cameron comes back), and I don't see how nunez could rank higher.
  18. Is matt cline a prospect? someone needs to feed the boy if he's really 5'10" and 155. He did ok in Helena last year, but basically has no power.
  19. I don't think there is anything he can do to break camp with the brewers, barring a few more injuries to other pitchers. He could well be up at some time during the season, or traded if a good offer comes.
  20. well, the good news is they just justified a AAA rehab stint for Capuano, without worrying about any teams claiming him.
  21. given our RH-dominant lineup, let's trade Capuano to the Cubs!
  22. viewing ST stats as useless is a gross overstatement (many young guys make the team by what they do in ST). If a guy is striking guys out, walking few, and giving up few hits, that means something. If someone like Brandon Webb is striking guys out, walking few, and giving up a bunch of hits (which he is) it just means he's been working on getting the ball over the plate, no need to worry. My point was, Parra is doing great compared to ALL pitchers in spring training, not just the brewers' guys. My eye suggests Parra can be a dominant pitcher for numerous years (not just 1/2 month in ST). Performance helps validate my "eye".
  23. you need to put a legitimate MLB roster on the field. If your pitchers are putting up ERA's over 6, it's just not a ML product you're selling to your fans.
  24. Inge would have made sense before moving Hall to 3b. I think the OP meant that Hall could move to 2b and Inge could take 3b, if we think Weeks will continue to play as he has in ST.
  25. I looked at stats across MLB this spring, and when you consider guys that have gotten a lot of work (10+ innings) and strikeouts (neighborhood of 1 per inning) and high K/BB ratio (over 3) and low whip (under 1.00) and low ERA (under 2), I think that Parra is the only one to qualify in all of those areas. So, he isn't only doing well for the brewers, he's doing better than just about everyone. Of course, some of the guys that are performing about as good as him aren't exactly Cy Young Candidates (Chan-ho Park, anyone?), but I think it still suggests he doesn't have anything to work on in AAA.
