  1. Cameron has been everything that we could have hoped for and more. He has good power with a solid OPS and plays gold glove caliber CF. I will be very upset if we dont bring him back next year. Kapler has been a nice surprise as well and wont cost much so we should bring him back as well. Outfield is the strength of the team as is and we should keep it that way. The position to worry about is 3B because Hall has regressed once again.
  2. I dont see McClung as anymore than a long man and mop up type pitcher. His control is way too erratic to be counted on. I will be very disappointed if we see McClung in the rotation next season. We need to resign Sheets and have a rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Bush, and Suppan if we cant trade him. If we can trade Suppan I would like to see Villy as the 5th starter. By keeping Sheets we will still have a rotation that is good enough to contend with.
  3. Sabathia is going to get upwards of 25 mil per year over 6 or 7 years. He is also most likely to go to the highest bidder since he has no ties to the Brewers organization. On the other hand Sheets is a career Brewer who by all accounts likes playing here. If we make him a priority and show him some love we may be able to land him for 4-5 years for 15 mil per season which I think is fair for both sides. Hopefully Suppan can pitch well down the stretch so we can trade him and hopefully some team sees some value in Hall as a shortstop. With all the other money coming off the books I defintely think Sheets fits in the budget and should be kept.
  4. Rickie Weeks is the best option that we have at second base. Does anyone really want to pay Orlando Hudson upwards of 10 mil per year? I certainly dont. I have no interest in Ellis or an old player like Grud. Second base is a tough position to find replacements. If Rickie was an outfielder i could see looking for a replacement but he still has a chance to be a well above avg second baseman offensively at a relatively low contract. he is also one of the only Brewers willing to take a walk and that is worth a lot. Lets keep Rickie.
  5. TLB has it exactly right. If we were willing to give Suppan 10 mil per year over 4 years we have the money to pay Ben Sheets. The Brewers should only pay big money to big time players and Ben Sheets is a big time pitcher. Try replacing him on the free agent market and you will end up overpaying an average pitcher like Garland or Lowe who arent in Ben's class. That is how we are stuck with Suppan's bloated contract and is the last thing this team needs to do again. The most important thing to remember is to never overpay for mediocrity.
  6. I am willing to give Rickie one more season. I think his defense has improved and he still takes lots of walks. I see the offensive potential still and think he needs another season. Hudson supposedly wants 10 mil per year and that is way too much to spend on him. As far as JJ is concerned I would sign him long term and look to move Escobar. JJ is a better player than Escobar will ever be.
  7. Sheets and Lowe are not the same caliber. Sheets is a far superior pitcher to Lowe and the numbers will prove that out. Lowe is a slightly better version of Suppan. Paying big money for mediocre pitchers like Lowe is just not smart.
  8. If you admit that Sheets has dominated in some "big games" then you are defining him as a big game pitcher. Juts because he got outdueled by Jake Peavy doesnt mean that Ben is not an ace pitcher. Ben Sheets has been an excellent pitcher his entire career and has pitched very well in so called big games. If Sheets would receive some run support once in awhile we wouldnt be having this discussion in the first place. As far as replacing Ben with Lowe or Garland that idea makes no sense whatsoever. Both of those guys are average starters that will be paid more than 10 million per season. We already paid for mediocrity once with Suppan and doing so again with Garland or Lowe makes no sense. My theory on paying pitchers is this; pay for excellence or dont overpay for medocrity. Ace starters are the hardest thing in baseball to acquire so we really should resign the ace we have in Ben Sheets.
  9. The Ben Sheets bashers really have no leg to stand on in their argument. As for the argument that Sheets is not a "big game" pitcher I present the 2000 Olympic final where one Ben Sheets shut out Cuba for the gold medal. If pitching for the gold medal for your country isnt a big game I dont know what is.
  10. If you look at there career numbers Sheets is every bit as good as Sabathia if not better. If you throw in how much each will cost and Sabathias body type it becomes clear to me that Sheets is the better guy to keep long term. If we can keep Sheets and have a rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Bush and Suppan unless we can trade him we will have the opportunity to contend for several years to come. We have the financial flexibility to keep him and I truly believe that Sheets wants to stay if we are willing to make a fair offer. With all due respect draft picks are nice and are great compensation when you are losing Linebrink and Cordero who are replaceable but they dont excite me as compensation for an ace like Ben Sheets.
  11. There was no upside whatsoever to pitching Sabathia in the 9th inning of a blowout. We have a very well rested bullpen and that is reason enough to take out Sabathia. Hopefully Sabathia will be fine but nothing good comes out of running your pitchers to the ground. We still have lots of games to play and risking the health of a starter just so he can pad his CG stat is inexcusable. We all laugh at how Dusty Baker handles his pitchers but Ned is no better.
  12. I still say we should resign Sheets. I would be willing to give him 4yrs in the 17 mil per yr range with a 5th yr vesting option. Ben is one of the best pitchers in baseball and will be nearly impossible to replace. The worst thing the Brewers could possibly do is let Sheets go and sign a 2nd tier free agent like Lowe or Garland who will definitely command more than 10 mil per year. Never ever pay big money for mediocrity; thats how we got stuck with this ridiculous contract for Suppan. By paying Sheets we would be paying for an ace starter. I would truly hate to see the Brewers let Sheets go and wind up overpaying an average starter. Sheets obviously likes playing in Milwaukee and we really should do all that we can within reason to keep him.
  13. What exactly does it accomplish to have him throw 130 pitches? Is the bullpen overworked or incapable of holding a 7 run lead in the last two innings? Letting Sabathia throw 130 pitches has lots of downside and absolutely no upside whatsoever. If the score was 2-1 I can see taking the chance but a 9-2 game is no time to be taking chances with Sabathia.
  14. This is exactly why the Brewers messed up big time in not trying to sign Sheets before he becomes a free agent. He clearly likes playing in Milwaukee and would have been willing to stay if we offered a fair contract. Unfortunately he probably feels slighted that we have made no attempt to sign him and he will probably leave for that reason. Its gonna be a sad day when Ben Sheets signs with another team.
  15. There is no reason whatsoever to abuse Sabathias arm like that. He should not be throwing 130 pitches in a blowout. If the bullpen cant hold onto a 6 run lead in the eighth and ninth inning then we arent a playoff team. Ned is definitely becoming another Dusty Baker with his handling of the pitching staff and its just one more reason to hate him. This team has to win despite the inept job that Yost does and it will be a shame if we miss out on the playoffs because of his dopey decisions.
  16. I really question how anyone can possibly think this is a good thing for the Brewers. As bad as Weeks has been he is still better offensively and defensively than Durham. I really wonder why people are high on Durham when he is not a good hitter and has absolutely positively no range defensively. I for one hope that Rickie will be in the lineup very soon.
  17. At some point having Counsell and kendall in the lineup everyday is going to cost us big time. They are both basically automatic outs and make it very difficult for this team to score consistently. Rivera has been tremendous when he has played yet he never does. He needs to play at least twice a week not twice a month. As far as Counsell is concerned his defensive contributions have been strongly overrated and his offense is just flat out embarrassing. We have been winning because our starting pitching has been awesome but at some point the offense is gonna need to score some runs and that task is gonna be very hard if Counsell and kendall play everyday.
  18. Counsell only has to get about one hit per week to play against nearly every righthanded pitcher. Also got to love that he hits 6th every night. Once again yost is showing he is clueless and that this team will have to win despite his ineptness.
  19. Good job Suppan and nice to see Rickie with a real solid game.
  20. If Gagne can pitch like this we might really have something the rest of the year.
  21. These are the type of innings that Villy needs to come in and pitch. I dont want to see Suppan anymore and I certainly dont want to see McClung or Mota.
  22. Suppan is awful. What a waste of money.
  23. Time for us to get some runs and put these losers away.
  24. What good is durability if you are avg to below average and make 10 million plus per yr?
