  1. Once again the teams lack of fundamentals shows right through. Why do these plays constantly happen with the Brewers but not with good teams. I wonder if poor coaching has anything to do with it.
  2. This team does just enough to tease you and then they revert back to the average team that they are. That is probably good enough to get Ned an extension.
  3. Its one thing to pitch well against the nationals but the Braves arent a minor league team. The McClung we saw today is the one we should expect to see the rest of the year. He is another Turnbow.
  4. LaPorta is a great example of why we should always take the best player available instead of drafting for need.
  5. Fantastic article Colby.
  6. From the latest Keith Law blog: Brewers' scouting director Jack Zdurencik reportedly skipped all conference tournaments to go sit on Salisbury (Conn.) prep shortstop Anthony Hewitt. Hewitt, a Vanderbilt recruit, has above-average tools, but was terrible last summer in various wood-bat showcases. I have a bad feeling this is the guy we are gonna pick 16th overall. This kid sounds way too raw to pick that high but Jack Z loves toolsy guys. This kid seems like pure projection. If he pans out you have an all star. If he doesnt he may never get out of A ball. I believe the 16th pick is way too high to pick a guy with these attributes. I guess with so many picks Jack Z is gonna take a shot or two. On the bright side he is from Brooklyn so he cant be too bad.
  7. If Billy would just go the other way he would be good again. He has tremendous power to the opposite field and only hits when he goes with the pitch. When he insists on pulling everything as he has for much of the season he is useless.
  8. Unfortunately that is the state of affairs with this organization. Splitting a series against the least talented team in MLB is good enough to let yost keep his job. At this point Im not sure anything will get this guy fired. If he hasnt been fired by now its proof that the organization accepts mediocre and in most cases worse play from the team.
  9. Well lookie here. Kendall is batting 8th today with Sheets ninth. This is Neds attempt to shake up the struggling offense. What a dope.
  10. That is how I see this organization at this point. This team is continuing to regress in every way possible yet nobody is held accountable and there is a complete lack of urgency about this season. Yost has different lame excuses for each loss (the other team played well, we battled and its still early too name a few). When we lost last saturday to boston because of four errors Yost made comments about how the Sox made erors as well and they are world champs. How will players ever feel accountable for losing when the manager is constantly in spin mode and always making excuses for there poor play. How can players ever feel a sense of urgency when the manager is constantly referring to them as "kids". This is not little league its the major leagues and although many of our players are young they certainly arent kids and shouldnt be treated as such. Major league players dont need to be coddled after every error and poor at bat. How can players ever respect a manager that is constantly making excuses for losing. Losing is just way too acceptable with this team and that needs to end if we are ever going to compete for the playoffs on a consistent basis. Another sign of the lack of urgency with this team and its losing mentality was when we didnt finish off the sweep in Pittsburgh. Instead of being angry that we lost a winnable game against a bad team all the player quotes focused on "at least we won 2 out of 3" and we usually play worse in pittsburgh so we should be happy taking 2 of 3. Im sorry but that is just a losers mentality. These players seem way too content playing mediocre baseball and worse. Other than Ryan Braun getting upset and saying he was sick and tired of hearing its early what other players are truly angry about how we have played this season. Seems to me as if these guys are content cashing their paychecks and playing out the string win or lose. There also seems to be no joy with this team. Usually with young teams there is an enthusiastic atmosphere and that just doesnt appear to be the case with this team. They are playing like the game is a chore and not a joy to be playing. Looks to me as if there is a very tight atmosphere around the team and the players are just going through the motions. If things are to change with this team the whole attitude around the team must change. Obviously the players have tuned out Yost and the only way to change the attitude of the players and end the atmosphere where losing is acceptable is to change managers and maybe the GM as well. Losing is way too acceptable for this organization and that must change immediately.
  11. We cant even beat the team with the least talented roster in baseball. Seriously look at the nationals team. That is a AAAA team if ever there was one. Yet we have lost two out of three to these clowns. How can Attannasio sit back and let yost keep managing this team.
  12. If we wait till he reaches free agency he will probably test the market and at that point we would be outbid by quite a bit. If we are serious about keeping Sheets and I dont believe that we are we need to do it as soon as possible. If not we will wind up overpaying a Derek Lowe type as a free agent instead of keeping our ace. Big mistake!
  13. We should have made an effort to extend Sheets either in the offseason or during spring training. The closer he gets to free agency the less chance we have of keeping him. Being proactive with an ace like Sheets was the way to go yet Melvin decided to let Sheets play it out in all likelihood costing us any shot of keeping him beyond this season.
  14. I would love to see him as part of a package for Prince next offseason.
  15. Those Texas staffs were never better than average. I agree that the ball park in Texas made it harder to put together pitching staffs but the fact remains that Melvin has never put together a top flight pitching staff. Whether or not he is capable is a question that cannot be answered until he actually does so. His and ownerships lack of aggressiveness in regards to a Sheets extension is very disturbing to me. This staff he has put together for this year is awful and losing Sheets is just not an acceptable outcome.
  16. Parra was what a 26th round draft pick that was signed the following year for first round money? I'm not giving the GM credit for a 26th round pick that he probably never saw pitch until the draft and follow process was close to fruition. Seriously when has Melvin put together a good pitching staff? His Texas teams never ever had good staffs. They were teams very much like the Brewers are now with big power hitters and lousy pitching. I mean John Burkett was his number one starter in Texas and Burkett was basically another Suppan. Melvin has shown an inability to put together a good pitching staff and questions will remain on that subject until he does. Letting Ben Sheets leave would be another strike against Doug Melvin in his attempts to have a viable playoff caliber staff in place. Every year this team seems to be forced to turn to career minor leaguers like Joe Winklesas or Mark Defilice. Why is it that this organization never seems to have the depth necessary to withstand a few injuries? Obviously losing Gallardo was a blow to this teams playoff chances but every year we seem to have no viable replacements in AAA when guys get hurt. McClung starting tonight is another example that this team has no pitching whatsoever. How in the world is this team ever gonna replace Sheets? Its a question that I hope we never have to answer. (combined consecutive posts and divided into paragraphs --1992)
  17. I dont see any way we can justify not resigning Sheets. A rotation of Gallardo, Suppan, Parra, Villy and whoever fills the fifth spot is completely unacceptable. We cant go out and sign a replacement for Sheets unless you want to pay another Suppan type number one type starter money. Its obvious by now that Melvin doesnt know how to evaluate pitching correctly and it really bothers me that we apparently have made no attempts to resign Sheets. There is nothing more important or harder to acquire than a number one starter and when you have one you must do all you can to keep him. Sheets is more important to this franchise than any other players other than Braun and Gallardo. Letting him go would be extremely foolish and it would haunt us for years to come.
  18. Nationals 5 runs on 3 hits. This team just finds new ridiculous ways to lose each night.
  19. Double switching out Hart in favor of Gwynn is a move only ned could make. Please put us out of our misery and fire the dope.
  20. This team flat out sucks. Instead of fighting for a playoff spot spot we will be "battling" the pirates and reds for last place. This team needs a major shakeup starting with Ned and maybe ending with Melvins tenure coming to an end. The fact that the young players on this team are almost all regressing is a major indictment of Ned and his clueless staff.
  21. Weeks and Hart should be locked up right now and Gallardo can be locked up next year once he shows he is healthy.
  22. I was watching the Brewers-Pirates game the other night on MLB extra innings and they had the Pittsburgh feed. Anyway they were showing some Fielder HRs against pittsburgh from last year and you can see from that footage that Fielder is considerably fatter than he was last year. He looks fat, slow, and lazy compared to last year. He has always been and always will be a big guy but he is downright huge at this point. I hope he comes back and has a big year so we can unload him next offseason for a package of young pitching. He has no interest in signing long term and even if he did I am not sure the Brewers should take the chance.
  23. Counsell is a gritty battler and Branyan is not. Its situations like this that make me question Melvin. Counsell cant get the ball out of the infield while Branyan is killing it at AAA. There is no way in the world to justify keeping Branyan in AAA. Just send down the useless Gwynn and call up Branyan. Just makes too much sense not to happen. (merged consecutive posts --1992)
  24. Im not sure how anyone can say we didnt get a good return for Sexson. We got several good years from Capuano and Overbay. That alone makes the trade worth it.
  25. Sheets shouldnt be out there. Too many pitches. Is Ned the new Dusty Baker now?
