  1. Street has not only looked very unimpressive as of late but he has also had arm troubles in the past. He is clearly not worth the high price it will take to get him.
  2. Is Taschner if we are getting him really an upgrade over Stetter because I think Taschner is very average. As far as Durham is concerned if he is going to be a bench player its fine but he shouldnt replace Weeks in the everyday lineup.
  3. I just watched Street pitch against the yankees and one word would describe him; unimpressive. He cant even touch 90 with his fastball and looked very very hittable. He has also had arm problems the last few seasons so trading for him is very very risky. Throw in the prohibitive cost that it would take to obtain him and I would say we need to stay away. This guy is far from a shutdown closer and I fear Melvin emptying the system to get him.
  4. Once again Yost is proving what a dope he is. Bush has been excellent the last month or so and deserves a spot in the rotation. McClung on the other hand is way too wild and one step away from imploding Turnbow style. To start McClung in St Louis of all places in a game we really need to win while Bush sits in the bullpen is idiotic. I hope the Brewers win 10-9 on monday night and Bush pitches great at home on saturday against houston so ned can end this dopey experiment early on.
  5. Do we really want to sign a 300 lb pitcher that has thrown a ton of innings the last few seasons. I say no. We are way better off signing Sheets to a 5 yr/ 90 million contract and letting CC walk. With all the dead money coming off our payroll after the season we can definitely afford one of them and I truly hope its Ben Sheets that we keep.
  6. If CC was gonna take a discount it would have been with Cleveland. He will most likely end up with the Yankees or Dodgers. With his body type I wouldnt want to resign him anyway. Sheets on the other hand is worth signing. There is no reason why this team cant have one super highly paid pitcher. We give Sheets a 5 year deal and then Gallardo gets the type of money Sheets will get with this next contract.
  7. There is no way that CC is staying. He will go where the most money is and that most likely is the Yankees. They have tons of money coming off the books and will almost defintely offer 20 mil a yr for 6 or 7 years. Sheets on the other hand might be willing to stay if we make a competitive offer because he seems to love his teammates and being the ace of the team. With all the money we have coming off the books I dont see any reason why we cant pay Sheets up to 18 mil a yr for 5 years.
  8. I would much rather keep Sheets and let CC walk. Sheets will be way cheaper than Sabathia and he is better.
  9. I confess that I still believe in Rickie Weeks and I dont know why. I confess that I was in favor of signing Gagne. I confess that I was and still am dead set against trading LaPorta for CC. I confess that I have absolutely no faith in this team and will be shocked if we make the playoffs. I confess that I will be devastated if we miss the playoffs again this season.
  10. I thought Melvin addressed the bullpen by adding Gagne, Torres, Mota, and Riske. We have one of the highest paid relief corps in baseball and the only one out of that group that has earned his money is Torres. If Melvin makes a Linebrink type trade again it will be a big strike against him and admission that his offseason bullpen retooling was a complete failure. After giving several top prospects for Sabathia I would rather not deplete our system any further.
  11. I fear losing JacK Z way more than losing Melvin. Without Jack Z running the draft this organization would be a complete bottom feeder. Losing him would do far more damage than losing anyone in this entire organization players included. What other team could even think about giving up a prospect the caliber of LaPorta knowing that they have guys like Gamel and Escobar in the system as well. Jack Z is the cog that makes this organization run and that cog must be kept at all costs even if it means giving Melvin a higher title like team president and making Jack the GM.
  12. Wow so it is Brantley or Green. I dont really want to lose either but whats done is done.
  13. I have to admit that I am disappointed by this trade for several reasons. First of all I think we could have made the playoffs without Sabathia. I hate trading 6 plus years of a slugger like LaPorta for 3 months of anyone even a picther like CC. If someone like Green is the PTBNL I am even more disappointed since he very well could have been our second or third baseman in the future, two positions where we have little to no depth in the system. I am also not looking at the draft picks as consolation for losing CC since it is doubtful we will pick players nearly as good as LaPorta or Green. If we make the playoffs I can live with the trade but if we dont this trade is nothing short of a failure. Here is my biggest problem with the organization as I see it now. We seem to really be putting all our eggs in this seasons basket. With all the unpredicability in baseball is it really wise to risk so many future years on one shot at the playoffs? The way everyone is talking it seems as if it is a far gone conclusion that Sheets is as good as gone after the season and CC is without a doubt as well. If that is the case it appears we will be taking a huge step backwards in future years since it will be ridiculously hard to replace Ben atop our rotation. In my opinion the smart thing to do would have been to trade for a lesser starter like Maddux or Wolf for depth without trading any elite guys and sign Sheets long term so we can have a good pitching staff going forward. After the season we could have traded Prince for some good young arms and had LaPorta as his replacement at first. Now we are in a position where our future chances to contend are considerably less and if we dont make the playoffs this year we might not compete for the playoffs for at least the next several years. There is a reason why prospects like LaPorta arent traded for rentals anymore and this is it. Melvin is acting out of pure desperation and that is why he got fleeced in this deal.
  14. Agent 39 thanks for all the little tidbits. I appreciate all the info you give and realize why you cant divulge certain details.
  15. agent 39, is Green still a Brewer or is he in this deal. I really hope we still have him.
  16. I want to be the first to wish Matt LaPorta all the best in Cleveland and to say that he will be sorely missed as part of the 2009 and beyond Milwaukee Brewers. I am sad to see this trade going down but we offered way more than any other team. Good luck Matt and heres hoping you help Cleveland for years to come.
  17. This deal is defintely happening; its a complete and utter lock. The Brewers are offering LaPorta who is miles better than any other player mentioned from other teams. If we are also giving Green and others this deal is a cinch for Cleveland to take and cannot and will not be topped by anyone else. Sabathia will be a Brewer in a matter of hours no ifs and or buts about it.
  18. Burnett is not even an option in my opinion. If he does well he opts out and if he struggles or worse gets injured which is entirely possible with his history we are stuck paying big money to an injured pitcher. The downside to Burnett is just too high to even consider.
  19. Doug needs to hold firm and not accept what Shapiro is trying to squeeze out of him. The deal we have offered is too much as it now stands and sweetening it makes it even worse in my opinion. All of this for two months of Sabathia.
  20. If Salome is really 5'7" I have a hard time enivisioning him as an everyday major league catcher. I would take LaPorta out and substitute Salome for him.
  21. Ive seen Hu play several times this year and he has the offensive potential of Craig Counsell. Laroche may still turn out to be decent but he is not a grade A prospect by any stretch of the imagination. We can get this done without a LaPorta type prospect and if not so be it. There is a reason teams dont give up top prospects anymore especially for rentals. Young talent is worth its weight in gold and trading a guy like LaPOrta who has all star potential makes little sense to me unless we are getting pitching that will be here for several seasons.
  22. If we are trading a stud like LaPorta we should be getting a pitcher that we control for several seasons like Greinke, Cain, or Billingsley. If all these rumors are true the Brewers are the only team offering a big time stud like LaPorta. I think we could get Sabathia for a package of 4 or 5 lesser prospects and if not we need to move on. Giving up a potential 30 HR a year guy like LaPorta for 2 months of anyone is crazy.
  23. Stevo we seem to be the only ones who think we are getting hosed giving up LaPorta. I would only do this deal if we dont have to give up any elite prospects. I really hope we move on to plan B and not give up the future. We can make the playoffs without Sabathia and I have no idea why Doug seems so desperate when no other teams are offering anyone near the caliber of LaPorta.
  24. AJ Burnett has a million dollar arm and a ten cent head. He is way too inconsistent for my tastes. I also dont want him flopping down the stretch or worse getting injured and being stuck with his contract for the next few years.
