  1. Blanton is worse than dave Bush and not an upgrade at all to what we already have. I wouldnt touch him with a ten foot pole.
  2. I really hope Melvin stands tall and doesnt give away Gamel along with LaPorta. We cant be that desperate. If Cleveland doesnt think LaPorta and Green as well as Cain are enough they are idiots. If Melvin caves in and includes Gamel I will have lost all respect for him as a GM. We can make the playoffs without CC and that is why I would tell Cleveland to go to hell and take out LaPorta and substitute Salome in his stead.
  3. When you look at these two offers its not even remotely close. The Dodgers are offering a bunch of garbage outside of Laroche who has lost a lot of value over the last year or so. When I say the Brewers are basically bidding against themselves at this point it is in reference to the fact that the Dodgers cannot be taken seriously whatsoever if that is the offer that they have given cleveland. LaPorta is a top flight prospect while the Dodgers are offering practically nothing. If I were Melvin I would take LaPorta out of the offer and substitute someone like Salome in his place. No team in baseball is trading stud prospects like LaPorta anymore. Seriously when was the last time a team traded a top end prospect for 2 months of anyone? Most teams have wised up and trades like this just dont get made anymore.
  4. This is exactly my point. We are aoffering far too much in this deal. laPorta by himself is far and away better than the Dodgers offer. Melvin is basically bidding against himself at this point and he is a big loser for offering up as much as he is. We are going to get totally hosed if this trade goes down. Please Cleveland take the LA offer because this is a terrible trade for the Crew.
  5. LaPorta is actually considered to be one of the top 5 prospects in baseball at this time. I am sure that we could get a better return for LaPorta than a guy we are renting for 2 months. As far as signing long term there is absolutely no way Sabathia will be doing that. He has stated that he wants Santana type money and the Brewers are definitely not giving that to him. If CC was willing to take a discount he would have done that in Cleveland where by all reports he is happy. Ben Sheets is a much better value long term than Sabathia and this organization is stupid if we dont sign Ben long term. The best scenario for us is keeping LaPorta and trading Prince this offseason for a top of the line starting pitcher. Then sign Sheets to a 5yr 90 million contract and we are set for years to come. We would have a 2009 rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Parra, Greinke/Cain/Billingsley and Suppan unless we can somehow dump his contract on someone. The lineup would have LaPorta replacing Prince and possibly Gamel at third base at some point next season. That my friends is a championship caliber team and proof that we dont have to give away a big part of the future to make a run this year.
  6. There is a reason why teams dont give up elite prospects for rentals anymore. If Melvin is willing to trade LaPorta he should be making a deal similar to the one Tampa Bay made before the season when they trade Young for Garza. This gave them a great young pitcher that they control for six years. How would most of you feel if we made this same type of deal a few years ago and the prospect going the other way was Ryan Braun. Well LaPorta might very well be the next Ryan Braun and its very stupid to trade that potential away. Even the Yankees realize the value of cheap young talent and even they arent willing to give away players like Matt LaPorta for a rental. Lets hope this deal doesnt happen because it will be a serious blow to the future success of this organization.
  7. For an elite stud like LaPorta the Brewers need to receive a pitcher that we control past this season. Guys like Greinke, Billingsley and Cain meet this objective. Sabathia is not resigning with the Brewers and thats a fact. We arent going to pay a fat pitcher 20 million a year and outbid the likes of LAD and NYY for his services. If these reports are right regarding other teams offers for CC we are way overbidding. Melvin is just way too eager to make this trade even at the cost of crippling our system. By keeping LaPorta and Green and trading for lesser pitcher we will still have every opportunity to make the playoffs. We can also resign Sheets and trade Prince this offseason for good young pitching like the guys I mentioned above. Then LaPorta replaces Prince and we can contend for years to come. Giving away 6 plus years of 30 HR production for 12-15 starts by Sabathia is nothing short of foolish and not the way to run an organization. Yes we all want to win now but we can do just that without mortgaging our future in the process.
  8. Melvin is going to get completely hosed in this deal. I am dead set against giving up a player the caliber of LaPorta for a rental. If Melvin insists on trading him we should be receiving a pitcher like Billingsley or Cain in return. Why this organization is putting it all on the line for one shot is beyond me. We would be better off trading for a Maddux and resigning Sheets so we would have a team that can compete year in and year out. Instead we are mortgaging the future to take one shot and if we fail we will let Sheets go and have no pitching going forward. This is no way to run an organization. I should also mention that it appears the Brewers are the only team stupid enough to be offering an elite prospect like LaPorta for a rental. I hope and pray this deal doesnt happen.
  9. From what I can tell we are bidding against ourselves. Melvin appears to be way too eager to make a deal; desperate if you ask me. That is a recipe for failure. I say we move on and trade for Maddux and keep our future intact.
  10. I dont want to trade Escobar but I would trade him before I would dump LaPorta. LaPorta is going to be a 30 HR guy and a great replacement for Prince. This organization is acting as if this is our only chance to make the playoffs. We can trade for a guy like Maddux and make a decent run this year. Then we can trade Prince next offseason for a young pitcher like Chad Billingsley or Matt Cain. If we do that we will have a chance to compete for the next several years. Sign Sheets and trade Prince next offseason for a young pitcher is a lot smarter than mortgaging the future on a rental.
  11. Melvin is acting out of complete desperation and as such will get fleeced by Shapiro. Jack Z needs to replace Melvin or the future will be very bleak indeed.
  12. I couldnt agree more with this. We will rue the day that we trade LaPorta for a rental. If Melvin makes this trade he definitely needs to be replaced by Jack Z because he is mortgaging the future on a rental pitcher. Melvin needs to keep LaPorta, Gamel, Escobar, and Jeffress out of any deal for a rental.
  13. I am sorry but there is no way I would give up LaPorta in this deal. I would offer some sort of package of Salome, Green, Gillespie and Braddock but that is as far as I would go for a rental. If we were getting Matt cain or Zach Greinke maybe I would trade LaPorta but not for 2 months of Sabathia. LaPorta is the perfect replacement for when Prince is traded this offseason. The best plan would be to trade Gwynn for Maddux and not put all our eggs in this seasons basket. We should resign Sheets and trade Prince next offseason for some good young pitching like Billingsley, Greinke or Cain. If we do all that our 2009 Brewers can have a rotation of Sheets, Gallardo, Billingsley/Cain/Greinke, Parra, Suppan. That would be an excellent rotation. The lineup would have LaPorta in place of Prince and potentially Gamel at some point at third. We can compete for many years to come if we dont trash our system for a rental. Please Doug dont make this deal.
  14. What a choke job. Worst loss of the year by far.
  15. Sabathia is an awesome pitcher but I wouldnt give up 6 plus years of guys like LaPorta and Gamel or the potential of Rickie Weeks to rent anyone. I would rather trade 4 or 5 lesser players to get him and if thats not good enough Id pass. How about Salome, Brantley, Gillespie, and if you twist my arm maybe Jeffress.
  16. I really hope this trade doesnt happen. I dont want to give up LaPorta, Gamel, or Weeks in order to rent Sabathia. Please CC resign with Cleveland so Doug doesnt mortgage the future in order to rent you!
  17. I agree that replacing Melvin would be risky but I might be willing to take that risk with Jack Z since I believe he is the biggest reason why this team is no longer a bottom feeder.
  18. The only way I would make a deal for Sabathia is if we dont have to include Gamel, LaPorta or Jeffress. In my mind those three guys are completely untradeable. If Cleveland insists on any of them I wouldnt do it. To trade a minimum of six years of potential all star caliber talents for 2 months of Sabathia makes no sense to me.
  19. I think that this upcoming offseason is the perfect time to trade Fielder. We have a fantastic replacement in the system with LaPorta and there are many teams that need a big power bat. I would love to get a guy like Billingsley in a trade for Fielder. The Dodgers clearly need some offense and they could afford to trade us Billingsley in order to get it. I am sure that we will have many suitors for Prince and we will defintely be able to acquire some stud young pitching in return.
  20. Did Sheets really have to pitch the 7th inning today. He was near 100 pitches and it was obvious that we werent going to win the game. This was a perfect chance for yost to get Sheets out of the game a little early but of course he didnt.
  21. I expect a lot more starts like this from McClung. I just cant see how we will ever be able to count on this guy for the long haul. I just hope that Melvin doesnt trade LaPorta or Gamel to rent for Sabathia for 2 months.
  22. The real Seth McClung is here to stay im afraid.
  23. Without Sheets our rotation will look like this next season; Gallardo, Suppan, Parra, Bush, McClung. That is a terrible rotation. Gallardo is a potential one or two and Parra could be a solid 3 but the other guys are all 4s and 5s. I guess we can always pay Suppan money for Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez but why should we spend big money for average production. Just pay whatever it takes for Sheets unless we want to be mediocre for the next few years.
  24. I will repeat what I said earlier; Sheets is irreplaceable. They will never be able to get a guy that is as good as him for next season. Ben is one of the top five starters in baseball and that is nothing to take lightly. So Melvin can spend over 20 million combined on the likes of Gagne, Suppan, Mota, Counsell, Turnbow, but we cant take the chance of giving a 5 yr contract to our ace who is a proven star pitcher? The hardest thing to develop is pitching and aces dont exactly grow on trees. Suppan who is a very average pitcher got 42 mil for 4 yrs. Ben is the only starter we have this season who I feel confident about when he pitches. To go into the future counting on the likes of Bush and McClung is not the way to go. We have 3 million people paying to see this team play this season. Who better to spend the money on than Ben Sheets who clearly enjoys playing for the Brewers. If we lose him this will be the biggest mistake Melvin and Mark A have ever made and it will cripple our playoff hopes for years to come. That is just completely unacceptable.
  25. My vent is directed towards Melvin and Mark A for not being smart enough to resign Sheets before the season. Good luck filling the starting staff with the Suppans and McClungs of the world. As far as I am concerned Melvin and Yost can both take a hike after the season and Jack Z can be the GM. Any Gm that isnt wise enough to resign Sheets when it is clear he was open to staying is worthless in my eyes.
